Logline

■ When a woman’s life has fallen apart, she manages to find happiness again.
Starting with nurturing flowers….
Synopsis

Alice Johnson (34) and her Husband, Alfred Johnson (39) live in an isolated town in 1930’s
Kansas, they have a perfect life together in the suburbs. Their garden is thriving with
colourful, healthy flowers. Alice finds out that she is pregnant but shortly after her Husband
is called to War (WW2) leaving her alone with her unborn child (Flora).
Several months later, she receives a telegram informing her of her Husband’s death, she is
grief stricken which ultimately causes her to miscarry. The flowers in the garden also begin
to die. She is distraught. Exhausted, she falls asleep in the Kitchen. When she awakes, she
leaves the house.
While she is away flowers start to thrive on the Kitchen floor, she then returns with another
husband, this results in her becoming pregnant and entering the house with two children
(one of them named Flora). By then the flowers have grown up to the ceiling, reflecting her
happiness. Her children give her a picture of their family together.
As the family hug, it is revealed to the audience that she is alone holding the war telegram,
no flowers are shown in the kitchen and her mental state is revealed.
