Hi Debbie,

I will let Cathy Foster address the concerns about the French Exchange forms. In
terms of making up the work while he is absent, we could grade him Pass/Fail for
term 1, if that helps. I also copied Jen Morrill so she can help us think about
this.

Thanks,
Josepha

Hi  's teachers,

came to see me today to let me know that he has to return to Israel to
address an unavoidable visa issue. He will be leaving this evening and returning on
10/23, with the hopes of returning to school on 10/24. He had to do the same thing
last year and was very responsible about making up missed work. He is a polite and
diligent young man and wants to keep up with your classes while abroad. He tells me
that he has already checked in with you about this trip, in order to gather his
anticipated missed work. If he has not, please try to speak with him today.

In terms of attendance, he will be missing at least 12 days of school. As we did
last year, we will be giving him Ns with a grade behind the N for term 1. It is
very important to him and his family to see that grade behind the N for feedback,
so please make sure you put something in for an academic grade when doing his
report card.

has not incurred any other attendance issues while at South, and he and his
family understand that the N is a reflection of missed time, and that as long as
this doesn't happen for terms 2 thru 4, he will end the year unaffected by this.

He is concerned that this absence will affect his standing as he applies for the
French Exchange. I told him that giving you the recommendation for that exchange on
the same day that he leaves for a 12 day absence, may affect your thoughts on this.
He understood that. For what it is worth, he handled the past absence in an
admirable manner.

Please see me with questions.

Hi Josepha,

With these extended absences, I will send   the work we are doing in class but
he will be missing a signficant amount of instruction in those three weeks, which
cannot really be made up. He also said that he needs me to fill out a form for him
to be a french exchange student but I told him that I do not know him well enough
to write on his behalf yet. Is there a way to have his teachers from last year fill
out this form?

Debbie
