Universal Design for Learning (UDL): With this lesson students are getting a visual and verbal idea of the
lesson so that they fully understand it. Along with the clip providing a great example.

Lesson idea implementation: The teacher will begin by playing the video from the class to watch and listen.
Before the clip starts, I will tell the students to pay close attention and at the end of the short clip I will pause
it and ask them the big idea they saw form the video. Hoping that someone answers they counted by ten I will
resume the video for them to watch and learn the information.
After the video I will have manipulatives such as base ten blocks or pop cubes (ten clicked together) for the
students to work with. Before they work with the manipulatives, I will show them an example of how to use
them and show how 10 long sticks of base ten block (which have 10 squares) equals one big base ten block
with 10 lines (and 100 squares). Once they’ve played with the manipulatives for about 10-15 minutes, I will
then ask them to draw me a picture with the manipulatives and counting by ten to a number such as: 30, 40,
50, 60, 70, 80, 90, or 100 (10 and 20 would be too simple). This will be their ticket out the door activity.

Importance of technology: This lesson could indeed be completed without the video, but we would miss the
key example with the clip I included. But it’s easy to find base ten blocks or posters to help without
technology.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: No privacy is being infringed on by the students watching this video
because this will be something done in class and there is no sharing online required.

Reflective Practice: before this lesson the students will have learned how to count to 10 by ones and so on.
After this lesson the students will understand how to get to 100 with 1’s and 10’s. They will better understand
the use of base ten blocks and how to represent bigger number with 10’s. ex. 50= 50 1’s or 5 10’s.
