c. plants can be classified based on a variety of characteristics
2.4 The student will investigate and understand that plants and
animals undergo a series of orderly changes as they mature and grow.

Using the smartboard and an activity found on Smart Exhange
(linked below), students will review the basic parts of plants that
they learned last year and be introduced to the life cycle of the
plant.
1. First, we will write some basic vocabulary terms and look at
the pictures that correspond with each term
2. Next, we will do an activity in which children will label the
parts of a plant
a. the teacher will ask the students for volunteers to go up
to the board to drag the terms to the correct corresponding
part of the plant to observe their previous knowledge of
plant parts.
b. the teacher should be sure to include those students
that may need the extra review.
c. when all the parts are labeled, remove the labels and
start over to allow different students the chance to
participate
d. discuss as a class, the different parts and what they for
3. Then, we will do an activity to discuss the life cycle of plants.
a. the teacher will touch the first box to listen to the first
part of the cycle
b. The teacher will then show the class the pictures and ask
which one they thought was described in the box.
c. A student will raise his or her hand and say what they
think the answer should be.
d. Then the teacher will drag the picture to the box so the
 class can see if that is the right answer.
e. repeat the process until all boxes are complete with the
correct answers. Then discuss.
4. As a class we will read about seeds and what they do. Then,
as a class, we will answer the questions on the next slide.
The students will raise their hands to say which answer
choice they think is right.
5. As a class, we will play two games together: Can you help
the seed grow? Can you put the life cycle pictures in the
right place?
6. For fun, the kids could play the sort the plants and animals
game
