and subtraction within 10.

Concept: Addition

Objective: Students will be able to add numbers 1-10 within 5 seconds, using addition flashcards to play
a game, with 97% accuracy.

Materials: Flashcards, addition review papers, pencil, chalk board

Procedure

Set the Stage/Anticipatory Set:

o “Do any of you remember one of the addition problems that we did all week on the 60
second worksheets?” Students will say out loud specific problems to insure they’re
correct, and write the problems that they remember on the board. (Auditory/Visual;
Linguistic; Spatial)

State the Objective:

o “Today, we will play a game with flashcards and we will go around the room until there
is only one person left.” (Auditory LS)

Investigate Prior Knowledge:

o The students will review and do a quick 60 second addition worksheet. (Tactile LS)

New Information/Input Method:

o Ask all of the students to stand in a circle.

o Give all of the students a flashcard to hold behind their back and ask them to make
predictions about what we are doing. (Auditory; Spatial; Interpersonal)

o Explain who is first will show their card to the person beside them and that person has 5
seconds to answer the addition problem.

o If the answer if wrong or out of time student will sit down in their place.

Guided Practice:

o Begin playing this game until there is only one person standing. (Logical)

o After there is one person, play a couple more times to insure the student have the
addition problems on the flashcards memorized. (Auditory; Visual; Linguistic; Spatial)

Independent Classroom Practice:

o Students will work on their addition worksheets. (Tactile)

o After the students have finished their worksheet they can grade their peer’s
worksheets. (Logical)

Accommodations:

o Special needs: Work in small groups and read the problems from the worksheet out
loud, and decrease the flashcard numbers from 1-10 to 1-5 addition. (Auditory; Visual;
Linguistic; Spatial)

o Gifted: Increase numbers from 1-10 to 1-20. (Tactile)

Topic Review/Closure

o Ask each student to remember and say out loud a math problem that they remember
and the teacher will write it on the board. (Auditory; Visual; Linguistic)

Evaluation/Assessment: Check to make sure that the students’ worksheets are correct.
