Activity (Same)
Teacher:

There are several parts to this activity, and can be


completed over several days, to allow for effective
collaboration and any issues that may arise with
technology.
1. For this activity the teacher must first select the
essay the students will read for the activity and
assign it to the students.
2. The teacher will then divide the student in groups
of no more than 2 students.
3. The teacher will then create padlet boards for
each group, remembering to enable the moderation
approval setting, so the individual posts will not be
visible to others until all members have posted.

4. Explain the activity to the students and lay out the


timeline.
For example:

Day 1-2: (Step 1) In class read the assigned essay and


prepare two questions based on what is read. (Step
2) Then for homework over the next 2 days students
will use google hangout to discuss the essay and
pose their questions to their partner. This can be
done using video chat, or the chat function if video is
not possible.
Day 3-4: (Step 3) Students will use their group padlet
to write a reflection of the discussion introduction a
new idea related to the discussion.
Day 5-7: (Step 4) Teacher must review and approve
the padlet posting for the students to view. The
students will then view their partners reflection and
comment on it.

Students:

In this activity students will collaborate with group


members via Google Hangouts to discuss the essay
read in class.
1. (Step 1) Students will participate in the read
aloud in class.
2. After the read aloud the students will prepare
for the group discussion by preparing two
questions to ask their group member based on
the essay. Example question: What do you think
the theme of the essay was?
3. (Step 2) At the agreed upon time the students
will log in to their google hangout account and
have their group discussion via video chat/ or
text chat if video chat is not possible.

4. (Step 3) Once the discussion is complete, the


students will use their group Padlet, created by
the teacher, to reflect on the discussion by
choosing an aspect of the discussion to
elaborate on/continue the discussion in writing.
This reflection is open in content, but must be
meaningful and relate to the discussion.
5. (Step 4) The students will comment on their
group members reflection with a meaningful
response. (Must say more that I agree/disagree)
