How important is democracy?

“Human Beings are just good enough to make democracy possible...just bad
enough to make it necessary.” There are different systems of government; democracy
is a method of government that bases its legitimacy on the participation of the people.
According to a Pew research center survey carried out among 41,953 respondents in
38 nations; a worldwide median of 66% say direct democracy might be the greatest way to
govern. Democracy maintains it importance because it gives people equality,
liberty, and the option of justified protest.

Democracy makes equality possible among people. It gives the strong people
(the one that was born with certain privileges) the same just chance to come to
power as the weak people (the one that needed to fight more to reach their
goals because of their initial situation). It is a system of fairness. If people
perceive and agree that you are capable of leading or contributing to a nation,
then you can do it, regardless of your race, social class or economic status. As
well in the political elections, , every individual has one vote and every vote
has identical value.

In democracy you have the choice of justified protest. This is one of the
biggest marked variations between democracy and other sorts of governments. As it is not
an authoritative regime people can disagree with the choices made by those in
power. They have the right to protest and express their views in opposition
to the government choices publicly, as far as the law and order is maintained. Again, and
people are the ones in control, or at least have the right opportunity to contribute with their
ideas

Democracy bases its principles on liberty. Democracy demands the election of a

legislative body; we can notoriously see freedom in the power of vote. The
legislative body is conformed by members from different regions, communities
and sections of the society. People choose the members of the legislative by
seeing themselves in the candidates. We can say that the masses govern
themselves, trough the members we chose and the constitution we help to
make. It's worth say that freedom that is given to us is just and necessary so
there is no chaos between the people.

In conclusion when we talk about democracy we are referring about equality,

freedom, and the option of protest, and this is why it is important. Because
these qualities that democracy is based on gives us also the chance of
contributing and choosing. People feel that the control of their lives is on their
hands so turn to be more mature, and this prevents instability, slow decisions
and power play.
