Guillaumin, Colette (1995). Racism, sexism, power, and ideology. London: Routledge. Although

the text would've been an interesting read, I only read The Concrete Expression of

Appropriation for the four terms underneath that umbrella. I specifically chose my

primary citation from here because the idea of direct sexual appropriation, which is one

of the terms, ended up playing perfectly into my piece.

Maybelline New York. “Make It Happen.” Youtube.com, 18 Jan. 2016,

www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8ysN7AKAnE&t=30s. This is the advertisement that I

analyzed in my video. I only used three specific slides from it but I described the scenes

to the best of my ability as my audience couldn’t hear the video. This was an easier piece

to critique after writing my essay, and I found it easy to talk and almost rant about the

problems that were in it

“Men and Women: No Big Difference.” American Psychological Association, American

Psychological Association, www.apa.org/research/action/difference.aspx. This piece was

very brief but detailed, more focusing on the myths on the differences of men and

women. This gave me something to use in addition to the Planned Parenthood article to

help support femininity and the social expectations that are active in the school and

workplace.

Parenthood, Planned. “Gender Identity & Roles | Feminine Traits & Stereotypes.” Planned

Parenthood, www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/sexual-orientation-gender/gender-gender-

identity/what-are-gender-roles-and-stereotypes. This piece is very informative on the

stereotypes and expectations that women have to level up to in order to be "acceptable". It

does mention some stereotypes for men as well but is centered around femininity and

women. The article isn't very long and provides a detailed explanation of extreme

stereotypes and the effects it has on society, which makes it an interesting thing to read,

especially if you want to learn more about the subject. I used this article as a definition for

social expectations of women to lay a base for my argument.

Plato. Plato's Phaedrus. Cambridge: University Press, 1952. Print.
