Aids: pictures, visual aids, textbook.
Teacher:

1. Lead-in (estimated time: 3 minutes)

The pupils will have to get ready for the English class.
T: Good morning, pupils!
S: Good morning, teacher!
T: How are you? Is anybody absent today?

2. Checking the previous knowledge (estimated time: 5 minutes)

Teacher will ask learners questions about the meals of the day:

T: What are the meals of the day?

S: The meals of the day are: breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner.

3. Fixation of knowledge (estimated time: 18 minutes)

The teacher will ask them to talk about the picture from their textbook.
Eg.:
- What time of day is it?
- It’s morning.
- Which room are the family in?
- They are in the dining room.

The teacher will write down on the blackboard some information about
breakfast in the UK.
Eg: There are several types of breakfast in the UK such as:

English breakfast
A normal English breakfast consists of cereal with milk, bread and butter and some
kind of jam. They drink tea or coffee and sometimes juice.

2
The teacher will try SINELG method. Learning becomes efficient and the new
knowledge acquired can be applied in various situations or can be used in solving
situations (tasks). Thus the learner participates actively in the learning process which
enriches a lot their previous experience.
The teacher will give the pupils a text containing information about English breakfast.
They will read it and then they write down on a sheet of paper in a table:

a) “x” – if they read something that confirms what they knew.

b) “-“ – if they read a piece of information that contradicts what they knew.
c) “+” – if the piece of information is new to them
d) “?” – if they find information that seem confusing to them or if they want to know
more about this.

“x” “-“ “+” “?”

The history of the English breakfast is tied up with

the Industrial Revolution. This hearty meal was
devised to provide agricultural and industrial workers
with high-calorie intake to fuel their working day. In
these more health-conscious times, fewer than 1% of
the population starts every day with a cooked
breakfast, compared to the 1950s when it was more
than half. It is usually reserved for the weekend or for
holidays in hotels, where no stay would be complete
without one. The full breakfast is traditionally served
at breakfast time, but it is also popular at other
times, usually replacing lunch.

3
The English breakfast is a traditional meal popular
in the British Isles and other parts of the English-
speaking world. English cuisine is scarcely renowned
the world over, but the Full English breakfast is the
one meal that England does well, with fat sausages,
sizzling bacon, eggs and buttered toast. It is an icon
of Englishness and as much of a symbol of England’s
national identity as the flag of St George.

4. Semi controlled practice (estimated time: 5 minutes)

Learners will have to divide some words related to food and drinks in four groups.
They will work in pairs. The teacher will check their answers and correct
pronunciation if necessary.
Eg:
Breakfast: boiled eggs, white bread, cream-cheese.
Lunch: steak, fried fish, lettuce, wine, mixed ice.
Tea: fancy biscuits, scone, China tea.
Dinner: rice pudding, fruit cake, pot pie.

5. Free practice (estimated time: 16 minutes)

The learners have to make a project about the meals of the day. The teacher will
divide them in four groups. Each group has to make a poster using pictures related
to food and drinks. They will name a leader of the group who presents to his
classmates different courses specific to breakfast, lunch, tea and the dinner.

6. Homework (estimated time: 3 minutes)

At home the learners have to do ex.2/111.
Eg: - Why is Luke interested in the back of the cornflakes packet?
- Luke is interested in the packet because he is trying to do a quiz.
