The TTR300 Series also measure the phase deviation of the
transformer primary versus secondary. This quickly
indicates problems in the transformer such as partial
shorted turns and core faults. This measurement is also
useful in verifying phase errors in all types of PTs and CTs.
Each unit comes equipped with a remote-control switch
for single person testing. This allows the operator to test
transformers with LTCs very quickly.
The TTR310 has the ability to store test results, upload ■ 5.7” VGA bright color display

Some of the features of the TTR310 consist of:
■ Fully automatic operation (either stand-alone or
remote-control)
■ Field upgradeable to a TTR330 or TTR320 without
compromise to calibration
■ Built-in RS-232 port and optional thermal spool-paper

the primary benefits of this interface is that it displays the
actual test form on the screen. An advanced feature of the
TTR330 allows the user to customize these test forms via
optional full-version PowerDB.
Other primary features of the TTR330 include three
communications ports (two USB, one Ethernet). The USB
“host” ports can be used for connecting directly to an
optional printer (to print full size 8.5” x 11” completed test
forms) and for data storage to a USB memory device (for
later printing, analysis, archiving, and/or trending). The
Ethernet port allows the TTR330 to interface (on a bi-
directional basis) directly to a PC.

measures the turns ratio and exciting current of windings in phase power and distribution transformers, for low-ratio
power, potential and current transformers. Deviations in turns readings up to 129.99:1, or up to 329.99:1 with an auxiliary

ratio.
The major source of error in a transformer is a primary imped-
ance drop due to magnetizing current, which is kept to a
minimum by excitation at a fraction of rated voltage. By
employing a design that meets both of these conditions along
with the use of a null balance system, the turns ratio of a
transformer can be determined accurately.
When measuring the turns ratio of distribution and power
transformers, the accuracy is well within 0.1%.

APPLICATIONS
Saturation Test
With the single push of a button, The MCT1600 performs
a CT saturation test and calculates the rated knee point.
The saturation test is performed at mains rated frequency
of 50 or 60 Hz as required by IEC regulations. The
MCT1600 will calulate the rated knee point in compliance
with IEEE C57.13.1, IEC 60044-1 or IEC 60044-6. While
the saturation test is being performed, The MCT will plot
the CT saturation curve on the large graphical display and
automatically provide the user with the rated knee point
per the desired IEEE or IEC standard. Many substation

DESCRIPTION
Power transformers are some of the most vital components
in today’s transmission and distribution infrastructure.
Transformer failures cost enormous amounts of money in
unexpected outages and unscheduled maintenance. It is
important to avoid these failures and make testing and
diagnostics reliable and efficient.
The FRAX 101 Sweep Frequency Response Analyzer
(SFRA) detects potential mechanical and electrical
problems that other methods are unable to detect. Major
utilities and service companies have used the FRA method
for more than a decade. The measurement is easy to
perform and will capture a unique “fingerprint” of the
transformer. The measurement is compared to a reference
“fingerprint” and gives a direct answer if the mechanical
parts of the transformer are unchanged or not. Deviations
indicate geometrical and/or electrical changes within the Collecting fingerprint data using Frequency Response Analysis (FRA) is an

Several international FRA guides recommends to verify the
integrity of cables and instrument before and after a test
using a test circuit with a known FRA response supplied
by the equipment manufacturer. FRAX comes with a field
test box FTB101 as a standard accessory and allows the
user to perform this important validation in the
field at any time

OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES
■ The built-in battery pack offers flexibility when
performing tests on or off the transformer.
■ The Active Impedance Probe AIP 101 should be used
when measuring grounded connections such as to the
transformer tank or a bushing connected to the
transformer tank. AIP 101 ensures safe, accurate and
easy measurements to ground.
■ The Active Voltage Probe AVP 101 is designed for
measurements when higher input impedance is needed.
AVP 101 can be used for measurements where up to
1 MΩ input impedance is required.
FRAX cable set consists of double shielded high quality cables, braid
for easy and reliable ground connection, and clamp for solid
connections to the test object.

Test Procedure
The test preparation and procedure is similar to a standard Figure 6: Oil conductivity and moisture influence
tan delta/power factor test, which means that the
transformer has to be off-line and preferably disconnected.
The IDAX software operates on Windows XP and Vista
and utilizes standard USB communication. The software
guides the user through a test template where all
connections are illustrated in Figure 8. Color markings on
clamps makes it easy to connect according to the built in
instructions. The test can be started as soon as the test
cables are connected. Error messages on the screen inform
the user if there are any problems with connections or
cables.
IDAX 300, in the standard version, is equipped with an
input circuitry capable of measuring multiple test modes
without having to change cable connections on the
transformer. As an option, the IDAX 300 can be equipped
Figure 7: Blue — dry with bad oil. Red — wet with good oil
with an additional current measurement channel that
allows for two completely independent measurements at
the same time, thus minimizing test time.
The calibration set enables simple and reliable calibration
of the IDAX system. It also reduces instrument downtime
and transport cost as the calibration box is the only part
that needs to be sent in for calibration. The new design
allows calibration in any local certified calibration facility
to avoid long shipment turn-around times and transport
costs.
Conclusion
IDAX is a well-proven system for determining moisture
content in transformer insulation. The instrument and
method including the modeling software has been tested
and verified with numerous customers.

The Unit is supplied pre-programmed with 4x Integrated PD Software Packages, all of
which run under the WindowsTM operating system, as follows:
Free upgrades on the above software packages are provided for 12-months from the date of
purchase. Software support packages are available beyond this 12-month period on request.
PDGold©
The PDGold© program (Main Page shown below) contains all the functions that allow control
of the OSM-Longshot instrument, to set the correct values of the acquisition parameters, to
acquire and visualise the PD dataset in order to get an immediate diagnostic response.
The PDGold© software collects the PD data in 200x ‘slots’ across the 50Hz (or 60Hz) power
cycle, one cycle at a time, followed by a processing stage of a few seconds, followed by the
acquisition and processing of a second cycle and so on.
Each signal acquired is synchronised by the AC mains voltage waveform supply (or other
volatge signal). The software thus allows the user to observe this 360o plot of the PD
behaviour showing both the individual 20ms ‘shots’ and the cumulative measurements of all
those taken up to that point, in ‘real-time’.
For the standard PDGold© measurement this would be left to run typically for 3 to 5 minutes
with around 100 to 200 individual power cycles usually saved.
• Noise waveforms using a second channel can be used for ‘gating’ external pulsed
interference
The software divides the power period into slots, and the peak signal is then detected for
each slot, allowing the user to observe familiar phase-related patterns of discharge.
PD levels are given in mV and dB as standard and also in pC for cable testing when used
with calibrated HFCT’s.
• Full print preview page for outputting results to printers or adobe pdf files
The spot tester is designed for a wide variety of use including on-line PD Testing of the
insulation in HV Cables, Switchgear, Transformers, Motors/Generators and other HV Plant.
It is very able to measure on-line PD activity, and the system is offered with a variety of
sensors for this type of work.
The system is also capable of accurate laboratory measurements, where synchronous
voltage measurements and PD calibrations are needed. The time for which measurements
can be recorded is only limited by the internal RAM of the PC.
It is not unusual to run the system for several hours up to a week, with continuous data
monitoring.
The 1.0 OSM-Longshot© PD Spot Testers unit is not sold primarily as a monitoring device
(it’s primary use being PD ‘Spot Testing’.
These spot testers are not specifically designed to be permanently installed and driven
remotely, and whilst this is entirely feasible, other options are available for the permanent
monitoring application.
The PDGold© Longshot system can be considered as the most versatile (and best) PD spot
testing device on the market.
It is generally regarded that PD monitoring should be carried out by permanently installed PD
Monitors with web/remote access (for information on long-term PD Monitoring Technologies
contact your supplier).
The applications for on-line testing tend to be plant specific. Hence there are cable related
parts to the event recogniser analysis. Here the results can be expressed in pC so that
discharges on all cable types, and at all detectable distances down the cable, can be
compared in magnitude.
There are also switchgear related parts to this, where the results can be expressed in dB to
relate back to the traditional way switchgear PD results were displayed.

The OTSAF/2 series are programmed with a test sequence Weight 2,4 kg (5,3 lbs)
suitable for using the VCM100 called ‘CHECK

test set to ramp up from 0 kV to the maximum voltage
value, pausing at each 10 kV point for 10 seconds to allow
the calibration to be checked.
Other versions of Megger oil test sets (such as the OTSAF,

Options
Process controls 1) INSULATING SYSTEM
This option enables, in case of incident or of any sudden treatment failure (power cut), to insulate the plant from the electric appli-
ance to be treated and thus prevents oil from flowing into the oil treatment plant.
2) HIGH LEVEL DETECTION SYSTEM
This option enables the automatic stop of the plant when the valve which protects the vacuum pump is full. This reinforces safety and
avoids the transfer of the condensates in the vacuum pump.
3) AUTOMATIC DRAINING OF THE VALVE
This option enables an optimal protection of the vacuum network of the plant.
4) VOLTMETER / AMMETER
This option enables to visualize the power supply of the plant as well as the developed intensity in order to protect the network and
the equipment.
5) RECORDER
This option enables to record the physical dimensions characterizing the degasifying process, like temperature and vacuum.
6) QUALITY CONTROL OF OILS
Different type of laboratory or portable equipment enable you to measure the main dielectric oil characteristics.
