UPDF deploys at Uganda-DR Congo border

A spate of attacks by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) has sparked fears
the rebel group could soon attack Uganda after many years of operating in

sought to create an Islamic state, the rebel group last had a major attack on

Now, reports about their recruitment
efforts and attacks in the eastern DR Con-

90 kilometres from the Ugandan border,
have raised major concerns both locally and
internationally. These reports come hardly a
year after the Ugandan military carried out
strikes against the group’s territory in DR
Congo in what they said was intended to
prevent an attack on Uganda.
Brig. Richard Karemire, the Spokesper-

(UPDF) told The Independent that the
Ugandan military is deployed at the bor-
der working with the Local Defence Units
(LDUs) to ensure that the country’s border,
people and their property are safe from any
potential attacks from the ADF.

The country’s banking industry recorded a sluggish

commercial banks are yet to follow

It is important to note that interest
rates charged by commercial banks are
determined by other factors besides
the CRB. One of them is regarding
the cost incurred by banks to borrow
funds and make them available
for borrowing customers. If banks
borrow funds at a high cost, they may
charge high interest. The other is the
operating costs that banks incur when
providing services to customers such
as overheads, utilities, third parties,

in lending to customers also comes
into play especially where recovery is
involved. I think commercial banks
have responded well to the Central

rates as way of boosting private
