Hi,

In order to review balance for an account choose the Show Balances button from the Account Inquiry window:
You see information for each accounting Period and Currency in your selection criteria, including the PTD
and YTD balances for your summary or detail account. General Ledger displays all debit balances as positive
amounts, and creditbalances as negative amounts.
In a functional currency row, the balances include amounts entered in your functional currency, plus amounts
converted from any foreign currency journals. Because the converted amounts are included in the displayed
balances, there are no Converted PTD or YTD balances for your functional currency.
If you are performing the inquiry for a single foreign currency using the Entered currency type, the PTD and
YTD balances include only amounts from journals entered in the foreign currency. You also see the Converted
PTD and YTD amounts, which are the functional currency equivalents of the foreign currency amounts. If
you are performing the inquiry for a single foreign currency using the Translated currency type, you see PTD
and YTD balances translated from your functional currency to the foreign currency. Note that there are no
Converted PTD or YTD balances.

As for the date range, the PTD and YTD date ranges are determined based on your calendar definition for
Period and Year.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Nadia

Hello,
Hope your are doing well,
Let me answer your within the context of the following example/assumptions:
1- Your fiscal year is the calender year: i.e. Jan-15 to Dec-15 (no adjustment periods)
2- Current Period is Mar-15

Now, in reports/query, what the PTD will differ in demonstrating account(s) balances from YTD:
For Example in Trial Balance Report:
YTD when query period is Mar-15:
Account Beginning Balance is the balance as of 31-Dec-14; if the account is either expense or revenue,
normally, it will have a beginning balance of zero
Activity: the balance of transactions occurred over the periods of Jan-15 to Mar-15
Ending Balance: The beginning balance (Dec-14) plus Jan-Mar/15 activity net result

PTD when query period is Mar-15:

Account Beginning Balance is the balance as of 28-Feb-15
Activity: the balance of transactions occurred in Mar-15 only
Ending Balance: The beginning balance (Feb-15) plus Mar-15 activity net result (should be the same as YTD
ending balance)

Now, in GL Account inquiry, you may noticed that balances are retrieved for both PTD and YTD
In this Inquiry, the PTD always represents only the net activity for period selected whereas the YTD represents
the total running balance (all periods) of account as of current period

Please let me know if your need further explanation for your question; if yes, please identify the report/query
you are using.

Hey
PTD balance means net activity in an account in a given period. Period is usually equals to a month.
YTD balance means net activity in an account from the beginning of time till the end of the given period.
For example
lets say you stated a business in Jan 15. You debited the Cash account by 100 and 200 by Jan15 and 100 by
Fed 15.
PTD balance for cash account for Jan15 is 300 and for Feb15 is 100
YTD balance for cash account for for Jan15 is 300 and for Feb15 is 400

Hi,

Thanks to all for you input,I am writing down my understanding will appreciate if you comment on this

PTD:-
It is the Balance Which shows Period Activity only and does not consider the Opening and shows the Closing
Balance for s Period if There any.
YTD:-
It shows the impact since very 1st transaction in an account and calculate the Opening at the date which is
Date from (on Account Inquiry form(If Date range is after the 1st activity Date))

Say i have start my Business in Jan-2012 (Fiscal Year From Jan-Dec) and Debit a Account

Jan-12 100
Feb-12 200
Mar-12 300
Apr-12 400
May-12 500
Jun-12 600
Jul-12 700
Aug-12 800
Sep-12 900
Oct-12 1000
Nov-12 1100
Dec-12 1200

3
Difference b/w PTD and YTD

and in the Year-2013 as

Jan-13 1300
Feb-13 1400
Mar-13 1500

Now if i Query the Balance using the Period Range on Account Inquiry Page (From Jan-13 to Mar-13) then it
shows the PTD Balance from Jan-13 to Mar-13 as
Jan-13 1300
Feb-13 1400
Mar-13 1500

and YTD as for the date range Jan-13 to Mar-13

Jan-13 8100
Feb-13 9500
Mar-13 11000

You are right
Note: in YTD calculation you missed 1000

The correct YTD sum:

9100
10500
12000
