DAILY PLAN
Lesson Title: Halloween Perspective Drawings, Grade 4

S & S Statements: This activity is based on drawing from perspective, and incorporating the theme
of Halloween into the activity, as the lesson will be taught during the week of Halloween.
Students will create a perspective Halloween themed drawing on black paper using oil
pastels.

Concepts and Skills: Artistic concepts learned in this lesson will be distance and diminishing
objects when drawing landscape, and theme, as the design will center on
Halloween.

Academic Language: Distance, objects, horizon line, perspective, composition, design, theme,
pastels, blending, vanishing point, overlay, color, image.

Purpose of Lesson (Overall Lesson Objective):

Students will use oil pastel techniques to apply the learned knowledge of distance and perspective in
a Halloween themed drawing.

Learning Objectives (List National Standard(s)):

Technical:
Following a group demonstration, and given oil pastels and black construction paper, students will
draw a Halloween themed scene with the successful application of two learned oil pastel techniques
(National Standard: Explore and invent art-making technique and approaches (VA:Cr2.1.4)).

Conceptual:
Students will creatively demonstrate the idea of diminishing images through distance (National
Standard: Document, describe, and represent regional constructed environments (VA:Cr2.3.4)).

Assessment Criteria:

Distance and diminishing objects were creatively shown in the drawing.


Two oil pastel techniques were successfully applied in the drawing.

Teaching Resources Needed to Support the Lesson:

Examples of Halloween themed perspective drawings, a lesson on how to draw from perspective and
