Beholderkin, Gouger

Created long ago by the evil race of Phaerimms, the gouger

was bred to stalk and kill normal beholders. However, they
did not keep close rein of the abominations they created
and they can sometimes be found spread across the
Underdark.
Bigger than a normal beholder, with ten vestigal,
twitching eye stalks devoid of magic power and four small
legs, dangling from the underside of their body, the gouger
is easily identified on sight, that is if its crazed screaming
hasn't given it away already. Most obvious is it's tongue,
stretching as far as 15 feet away from it's body, with two
shorter tongue spikes which it uses to gouge out the eyes of
other beholders.
It's main eye is almost the same as a beholder's, except
that the gouger's is always active, never stopped by the
gouger. It uses this to disable beholders of their magical
abilities so that it can close in to it, initially striking from a
distance with their tongue before getting closer to use their
powerful bite. Even when damaged, gougers have been
known to fly above their victim, striking them with their
tongue from a distance.
Bred to turn the beholder's eye powers against them,
gougers are terribly afraid of their master, and will willfully
hunt beholders and kill them without instruction. Despite
the fear of their creators, gougers are completely unwilling
to work with other creatures and will remain loyal to the
death.
However, not everyone is safe from gougers just
because they are not beholders, for they are ruthless
carnivores that will hunt any prey that they
decide to snack upon.
