Objectives:

Language:
SWBAT ask their partner and answer questions based on the poem.
Content:
SWBAT read a short poem with a partner while investigating the time of day, rhyming words,
and sensory words. The student will also work with a partner to interview about each question.

DIRECTIONS:
Your teacher will pair you up with a partner.
Read the poem aloud with your partner.
After you read the poem, read each question and answer with your partner. (Make sure
your answers are in complete sentences!)

Poem:
Every evening,
Dinner time,
A bath to wash away the grime;
Story read,
Cover raised,
Curtain parted, eyes starglazed;
Eyelids heavy,
Fighting sleep,
Soon give in to slumber deep.
Questions:

1. During what time of day does the poem take place?

a. What is your partner's favorite time of the day?

2. Does the speaker in the poem want to go to sleep?

a. Write the line or lines from the poem that support your answer.

3. Does every line in the poem have a rhyme?

a. What is your partner's favorite rhyming pair?

4. Draw a box around your partner's favorite rhyming words.

5. What sensory words can be used throughout this poem?

a. What sensory word in the poem is your partner's favorite?

Scoring:
Students will be scored based on what they have written for their partners answers. This
conversation will be recorded to ensure the two partners had a conversation. Depending
on how well the students synthesize their response, they will be given up to 15 points.
The student can earn up to three points for each numbered question answered. One point
for answering in a complete sentence, one point for sharing what their partner had to say
about the question, and one point for correct answer.
