CHAPTER NINE

Adam's Family in the

Dispensation for
Restoration

God's plan to restore and save man by sending the Mc siah

exi ted from the moment the Fall occurred. Thus his d i pen sa-
t ion to establish the Foundation for the Messiah began with
Adam's fami ly.

I. THE FOUNDATION OF FAITH

Since it was Adam who ac tua lly committed the Origina l S in ,
a nd not Cain or Abel, Adam should have been the one res pon-
s ible to restore the Foundation of Faith by ma kin g the Re-
qu ired Offering to God. Whether or not the Foundation of
Faith was accomplished would be decided by whether or not
Adam made his offering properly.

A. Separation for the Offering

However, in the Bi ble there is no record of Adam ever offering
a sacrifice. The offerings were made by Cain and Abel. Why is
this?
According to " The Princ iple of the Creation," man was

origi nall y created to relate to one lord. Thus, God cannot work
a Principle dispensa tion with a person who has a re la tionship
with two lords. As expla ined earlier, in the chap ter titled .......
"Overview of the Principles of the Dispensation for Restora- ... ...
tion :· a lthough Adam was c1·eated by God, he came tu be of
Satan's lincage, and thus was in a midway position, relating to
both God and Satan.
S ince Adam was an embodiment of both good and evi l , if
God were to try to deal direct ly w ith Adam and h is offering,
Satan would a lso try to deal with Adam and hisofferingon the
basis of Adam's being of his lineage. If this had happened.
Adam would have been in a position to dea l w ith two masters,

and thus in a non-Principle posit ion. So God could no t work

his dispensation through Ada m .
God had no a l tema tive but to separate into two beings the
two contrad ictory na tures of good and evil tha t we re e mbod-
ied w ith in Adam. To this end , God had one of Adam 's two
o ns represent good a nd the o ther represent evil.* Then God
placed them in the positio ns when.: o ne dea lt with God a nd the
other with Sa ta n. In other word . God had them offer their
sacrifices from the position where each dealt with on ly o ne
lord.

B . The Second Son in God's Dispensation

Both Cain a nd Abel were sons of Adam. Then which of the two
should be the one to represent good , and thus to deal wi th
God , and which sho uld be the one to represent evi l, and thus to
deal with Satan? Both Cain and Abe l were result~of Eve's fa ll,
and the quest ion of who would represent which s ide was
decided based on the process of the fa ll of Eve. who was
responsib le for the Fa il.
Eve was in volved in two fa llen acts of lo,·e (fornicatio n).
angel The firs t was her relat ionship with the archa ngel, cau ing the
s piritual fa ll. The second was her relationship with Adam,
Spiritual Physical causing the phys ical fa ll.
Fall Fall Both of these fa llen acts were crimes. but if we think
about wh ich of the two was "closer" to The Princ iple a nd thus
Eve's More Less more easil~· forgiveable in the eyes of God, we would have to
Motive unnghteous unnghteous say that the second fa llen act was the more easily forgiveable.
The firs t fa llen ac t was mo ti vated by Eve's excessive desire to
Principle Farther from Closer to have that which was not yet her time to enjoy, that is, it was
Status the Principle the Principle motivated by her desi re to have her eyes opened and to be like
God (Gen 3:7)-before she was ma ture. Also, in the first fa llen
act, Eve's relationship wa w ith the archangel, who, accord-
ing to The Principle, was never to have been Eve's pause. On
the o ther hand, the second fall en act wa motivated by Eve's
des ire to return to God's s ide after she real ized the ill icit
na ture of her firs t act. Moreover, even though the act wa
committed prior to the time God had set, it was a re la tionship
with Adam, who, in God's plan, would u ltimately have been
her spouse.
Because Cai n a nd Abe l were the results of Eve's illic it
love, God placed them in pos itio ns representing evil and good
based on her two at: ts of fornication . Cain, as the firs t resu lt of
the Fa ll, represented Eve·~ firs t fa llen act, the rela ti on hip

* Though Abel and Cain stood on the sides of good and evil,
re pcctivcly, their positions arc relative. Actually, both had Original
Sin and Fallen Nature as well as Origina l Nature- and thus both
had na tures of evil and of good.

with the a rchangel, and thus he was placed in the position l o

deal with Satan. Abe l symboli zed the second fallen act, that
betwee n Eve and Adam, a nd thus he was p laced in the posi-
t ion to deal w ith God .
Satan gained control o f God's Creation before God did ,
and becau se Satan is a non-Princ iple be ing, he brought about
a pseudo-Princ iple world before God could rea lize a Princ iple
world . The refore, God began his dis pensation by p lacing the
firs t son, who symbolized the firs t fallen act, o n Satan 's side
a nd the econd son, who symbolized the second fa lle n act , o n
his s ide. God said to Cain,"' ... Why are you a ngry, and why
has your counte n a nce fa lle n ? H you do we ll , w ill you not be
accepted? And if you do not do we ll, sin is couc hin g at the
door; its desire is for you , but you must master it' "(Ge n 4:6,7).
This s hows that Cain was in a positio n to have to deal with
Satan .
Whe n the Is rae lites fled from Egy pt, God s m o te a ll the
first-born o f the Egy ptians, and a lso of their ca tt le (Ex 12:29).
Also, the Bible says th at God " loved" the second son , Jacob,
and " hated" the firs t son , Esau, even whi le th ey were s till in
their mother's womb ( Rom 9:13). And in t he case o f Jacob's
blessing o f his grandsons, Ephra im and Manasseh , Jacob
blessed th e m by crossi ng his hands so that the ri g ht hand lay
on the head of Ephraim, the second so n (Gen 48: 14). I n ea c h of
these cases is an exa mple of how God placed the second-born
c hild in the fa vored position.
Based on this princ iple, God placed Cain and Abe l in
pos itions w he re each cou ld d ea l with on ly one mas te r , and
then had each make a n offerin g. God could accept Abe l 's
offering (Gen 4 :4) because h e was in a position representing
God and had m a d e the offering in an acceptab le manne r (Heb
11:4). Through thi s acceptab le offering, the Foundation of
Faith was es tab lished in Adam 's fam ily by the second son ,
Abe l, acti ng in p lace of Ada m .
God did not reject Cain's offe ring because he ha te d Cain;
nor was it God's in tention to condemn him forever. However,
because Cain was in a pos ition to deal on ly with Satan , God
could no t work with him unless he fulfi lled a n indemnity
condition by which h e could remove himself from the pos ition
of rel a tin g to S atan. The indemnity condition that had to b e
[ulfi Iled by Cai n is cal le d the· Indc mni ty Condit io n LO Remove
the Falle n Nature'.

II. THE FOUNDATION OF S U BSTANCE

In order for Adam 's fami ly to estab lis h the Foundation of
Subs tance, Cain had to meet the Inde mnity Condition to R e-
move the Fa lle n Nat ure. Had h e done so, God would have been
able to accept his offe ring joy full y.
120 ADAM'S FAMILY

Since Cain was reprc enting the side of Satan, he could

not be in the object pos itio n to God, who is the subject of
goodness. Through Cain's m eetin g the condition required 10
remove the Fallen Nature , he wou ld then return to the posi-
tion where God could deal with him. Then, how was this
Indemnity Condi tion for Rcmoving the Fallen Nature to be
mct?
The fir t man and woman inherited the Fallen ature
through their relationsh ip w ith thc archangel. The Indemnity
Condition for Removing the Fallen Na1ure must be estab-
lished by symbolically reversing the process of the Fall.
Thc archangel, who was created in a posi tion more di -
tant from God than Adam, should have loved Adam as God
did, thus taking the same viewpoint as God. He s hould have
re lated to God with Adam as his mediator, a nd s hould have
perfected himself by following the hca,·enly way or humbling
himself before Adam and obeying him . But the archangel did
not do th is. The I ndemnity Condition for Removing the Fallen
aturc is met by re\'ersing thi fa ilure .
After Abel made his offering, Cain was p lacccl in the posi-
tion of the a rchangd, and Abe l, in tha t of Adam. From the e
positions the Indemnit~1 Condition for Removing the Fallen
Fo ion of Foundation of Nature could have been met b~· Cain's loving Abel. obeying
Faith Substance G Abe l, and humbling himself to Abel. Doing so, he would have
come closer to God. But, instead, Cain killed Abel, repeating

t the process of the archangel's fall. This was not s imply the
crime of an elder brother killing his ~·o ungcr brother; it meant

separate good and evil in Adam's fam ily had been frustrated ,
Animals Cain Abel and th e s ide of goodness had been lost.
What Cain wa~ upposed to fulfill was the bas ic: indemni-
ty cond ition that is required fur a nyone in a position dis tant
from God to come close'r to him. Within each person , the mind
directed toward goodness (Rom 7:22) is in th e Abel position,
GOD and the body which tends toward ser\'ing "the law of in "
(Ro m 7:25), is in th e Cain position. Only when the body is
subjugated by the m ind and obeys it will each individual

t become good. However, in the actual life of fallen man, the

body repeatedly rebels against the directions of the mind,

- Messiah Therefore, to come to God, man has had to go thro ugh the
th ings of the Creation, wh ich were in the Abel pos ition to him.
ADAM 'S FAMILY 12 1

This is the princ iple behind God's having man use offerings in
the Dis pensation .
As expla ined earlier, the founda tion upon which the Mes-
siah can come is the restored Founda tion of Fa ith and Founda-
tion of Substance. In Ada m's family, a Founda tion of Faith was
successfully made by Abe l's making an offering which God
could accept. Through th is, Abel a lso qualified himself to be
the cen tral person for the Founda tion of Substance. However,
because Cain killed Abel, the Inde mnity Condition for Remov-
ing the Fa llen Na ture was not esta b lished. Thus, the Founda -
tion of Substa nce a nd, as a resu lt , the Founda tion for the
Messiah , were never ma de, and God's dispensation was not
fulfi lled in Ada m 's fa mily.

III. THE FOUNDATION FOR THE MESSIAH

If Cain ha d fulfi lled the Inde mnity Condition for Removing
the Fa lle n Na tu re by hu m bling himself before Abe l a nd
obeying him, the Founda tion of Substa nce would have been
established in Adam's fami ly. This, together with the Founda-
tion of Faith , would have constituted the Founda tion for the
Messia h. In other words, by Abel's meeting the inde mnity
condition necessary fo r restoring the ve rtical relationship
with God , he would have stood on the Founda tion of Fa ith . If
Cain ha d re-established the proper hori zonta l order with
Abe l, the Founda tion of Substa nce would have been estab-
lished. These two founda tions together wou ld ha ve consti-
tuted the Founda tion for the Messia h.
On this founda tion, the Messiah wou ld have been able to
come. At that stage of huma n his tory, God 's d ispensa tion was
on the fa mi ly level. so if Abe l and Cain ha d established the
Foundation for the Messiah
Founda tion fo r the Messia h , it would have been on the fam il_\·
level. If Ada m 's fa mily had ma de such a founda tion, they
would have received the Messia h a nd been reborn through
him . In this way, they wou ld have been restored and become
the ideal fam ily which God ha d origina lly inlended, a nd a n
entire ly new his tory would have begun .
Instead, Cain killed Abel, a nd God 's dispensa tion for
Ada m 's fami ly was not fu lfill ed . However, God 's w ill to save
ma nkind is unc hangeable a nd absolu te; so a lthough God may
not be a ble to continue his w01·k through a person who does
not fulfil l his responsibil ity, he chooses someone from a mong
that person 's descendan ts to carry on w ith his Will.
