Form of Alternative Family Configuration of a SINGLE FATHER

A. STRUCTURE AND COMPOSITION

Mr. X is a single father since his wife is already deceased. He is living with two of his
children who are both already of age of majority and his two grandchildren.

His grandchildren were left into his care because the father of the children was incarcerated
due to illegal drugs while the mother of the children is working in Manila.

B. ROLE OF FATHER AND OF EACH MEMBER

The father acts both maternal and paternal roles. His children have occasional work but
most often than not they are unemployed. The grandchildren are both elementary school students.

C. DECISION MAKER IN THE FAMILY/ POWER HOLDER/ ECONOMIC POWER

Decision making and power belongs to the head of the family because he alone has the
fixed source of income from peddling fish. Day to day decision making and life changing decisions
is handled by him as well.

D. AUTHORITY STRUCTURE
Major authority comes from the father but since children are already of legal age, they have
freedom to do whatever they man as long as the family will not get into trouble with any of their
activities.

E. DISCIPLINE STYLE
For the children, Boundary-Based Discipline is being used which focuses on setting limits
and making rules clear up front. The children are given choices and there are clear consequences
for misbehavior, such as logical consequences or natural consequences.

For the grandchildren, Behavior Modification is used which focuses on positive and
negative consequences. Good behavior is reinforced with praise or rewards while misbehavior is
discouraged though the use of ignoring and negative consequences, like the loss of privileges.
