Name of Event: Inmates’ Welfare Development Program

Organizers: Nursing Faculty and College of Health Sciences Students

Date of Event: December 2015

Place of Event: BJMP Dagupan City, Male Dorm

The Program was created as a part of an effort for attending to inmate’s welfare
development. In collaboration with nursing students, the faculty created a program that was
meant to provide an opportunity for the inmates to socialize among themselves. Based on the
response of the participants reflected on the evaluation forms they filled out after the event, the
Program was able to succeed in meeting its purpose.

Ninety percent of the participants expressed excellent satisfaction with how the event was
managed. Eighty percent were satisfied with the food served during the program. However, fifty
percent were dissatisfied in the area of technical support. Eighty percent of the participants were
also dissatisfied with the shortness of time for the Program which, in in our interpretation, is a
positive feedback since it means they had a great time that they want more.

We also had speakers for the Program, and the participants expressed satisfaction regarding
this aspect. Eighty percent of the petitioner expressed positive response on how engaging it is. In
their own ways, they were able to relate to their lives to the message of the speaker.

The Program touched on the values the University of Pangasinan upholds. The Program
shows the commitment of the University to reach out to the community and provide the kind of
support that the institution can lend. The Program also reflects the integrity of the University for
its initiatives in creating such programs that values not only the development of the students, but
also values different sectors of the community. The participants see these as seventy percent
stated that the Program touched on the values of commitment and integrity.

In sum, the Program was able to do its purpose in contributing to the efforts on enhancing
the welfare of the inmates. Considering all aspects of the event, the response of the participants
shows, in general, excellent satisfaction. Even for a short time, the University was able to share
the spirit of Christmas with this sector of our community.
