SANITARY FIXTURES

1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to assist the installer in understanding the requirement for the
installation, testing and commissioning of plumbing and drainage system including sanitary fixtures.
The recommendations given in this statement are easy to follow and implement.

2. SCOPE

This method statement is to detail the procedure and process of the installation, testing and
commissioning of the following Plumbing and drainage system including sanitary fixtures for the
entire PCT building.
 Installation of new foul and waste pipes and fittings.
 Installation of new rain water pipes and fittings.
 Installation of new sanitary wares.
 Supply, Installation, testing and commissioning of cold water pipes as per new toilet
layout in sixth floor and ground floor.

5. WORK PERMITS

All necessary work permits will be obtained prior to the commencement of any activity at site
and will remain valid throughout the duration of the operation and daily approval will be
obtained. (Electronic Consolidated Permit to Work etc). Request for Inspection and clearance
forms shall be submitted and got approved prior to proceeding to the next activity of any work
at site.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES

6.1 PROJECT MANAGER: Directly supervises the Project/Site Engineers, QA/QC Engineer,
Surveyor and Safety Officer on the site and has full control over the use of labour, plant and
equipment. He ensures that the work is carried out in full compliance with the project
specification in a timely manner with forecast planning for completion of project as per
approved drawing and health, safety & environmental requirements of QP/RLC.

6.2 SITE/PROJECT ENGINEER: A full time Site/Project Engineer or Supervisor shall be


present at site when the work is in progress and he is accountable for the work progress
including Safety, Quality aspects and obtaining work permit through E-CPW. It is site engineer
responsibility to make arrangement of materials, lifting plan, Excavation and bedding layer with
proper barrication and proper PPE & Housekeeping and to do the mock up prior to
commencement of installation Inspection with proper arrangement of work permit and
submission of work schedule to consultant. It is his responsibility to execute the work as per
approved drawing, method statement and as per QP Specification in coordination with
consultant, QA/QC Engineer and manager to raise and close out the inspection.

6.3 QA/QC ENGINEER: Is responsible to monitor the approved and latest drawings are used
while executiong the works.And co-ordinate with QP for raising work inspections in

co-ordination with site engineer and the safety officer with day to day site inspection to ensure
the work progress without getting deviation from the specification and to notify site observation
report on daily basis with proper defects closure report.

6.4 SAFETY OFFICER: Responsible for HSE related matters such as work permits PPEs,
compliance to traffic regulations, heatlth & safety of all the manpower during demolition
process.

8. HSE PRECAUTION
8.1 Before commencing any work, it shall be ensured that all permits are valid until the
completion of the activity.

8.2 All Staff and Workmen shall wear Personal Protective Equipment.

8.3 Toolbox meetings shall be conducted everyday before commencement of work.

8.4 Experienced workmen shall only be deployed for the work.

8.5 All personnel shall be cautioned while working near live lines and other services.

8.6 Hazard identification shall be done during toolbox meetings especially for heat exhaustion,
electrocution, poisoning, damage to existing services, etc.

8.7 Any unfortunately injuries of the people on site would be treated using first aid tools and
if required would be sent to the hospital.

8.8 Care would be exercised to see that no harm is caused to bird /animals (tortise) and the
trees/plants encountered during the execution of the work. Best efforts will be made to
see that the cable route does traverse through the habitats of birds/animals( Tortise
Nesting Area) or along existing trees. Even if trees are to be uprooted it would be done
as per RLIC guidelines.

9. INSTALLATION SEQUENCE

 Identify the scope of each system for the installation.


 Obtain the approval for identified scope of installation from QP.
 Prior to start the installation activities inform the end user in advance.
 A suitable method of access will be used to work at height.
 All tools and equipments will be brought to site and stored in a secure place.
 All the material and documentatation relevent to this particular sectionof works shall be checked
prior to start the installation.

9.1 INSTALLATION OF FOUL, WASTE, RAIN WATER PIPES, FITTINGS (U.P.V.C)

 Mark the pipe routings,clean outs and floor drain as per the approved drawing.
 All pipe support will be done as per the recommeded spacing.
 Support of the pipes shall be done accordance with the approved drawings, manufacture
recommendation and project specification
 Lay the pipes as shown in the approved shop drawing and acoording to the position of final
fixtures.

9.1.1. INSTALLATION OF RAIN WATER OUTLET

 Prior fixing, it will be inspected for any damages and approved materal be used.
 Fixing holes to be marked and position ascertained prior to drilling.
 Base of the RWO to be isnatlled prior to the water proofing.
 After completion of the water prrofing activity the dome of the RWO can be fixed.

9.1.2 TESTING OF FOUL, WASTE, RAIN WATER PIPES, FITTINGS (U.P.V.C)

 Ensure joints are complete in the entire section of piping to be tested


 Fix the pipe end plug with drain valve on the lowest point of piping.
 Fill the entire pipe line with water till the top.
 Mark the level of water on the pipe.
 Up on filling the water, verify all joints for any leaks for a period of minimum one hour.
 If any water leak is observed, release the water from the piping and replace/repair the fittings.
 The test shall be considered as “PASS” if no signs of leakage is observed.
 The inspection sheet(s) shall be signed by the authorities.

9.2. INSTALLATION OF FINAL FIXTURES.

9.2.1 WATER CLOSET

 Prior fixing any sanitary ware, it will be inspected for any damages and approved materal be
used.
 W.C will be mounted on the floor and location of the fixing points will be marked.
 Fixing holes to be marked and position ascertained prior to drilling.
 Holes will be made on the floor for screwing.
 Drainage pipe (W.C. outlet/branch) will be postioned properly to receive the W.C connector, if
necessary flexible W.C connecctor can be used for matching the excisting holes.
 Upon ensuring the above activity W.C can be installed.
 Flush tank water inlet and flush outlet connection will be completed with suitable fittings.
 Flexible connector from the water supplyline can be connected to the W.C Flush tank.
 Hand sprayer to be installaed near to the W.C as per approved darwings.

9.2.2 WASH BASIN WITH MIXER

 Prior fixing, it will be inspected for any damages and approved materal be used.
 For countertop basin, is to be supported on the framework.
 After carefully placing the basin, mixer location (as per approved) to be marked on the counter
and the same to be cut.
 Then mixer shall be fitted and water supply will be prvodied from the water supplyline using a
flexible connector and angle valve.
 Drainage connection will be made a bottle trap and magic hose, it will be connected to the darin
line as per approved drawings.

9.2.3 SHOWER TRAY AND MIXER

 The shower tray shall be placed as per approved drawings and location, same to be fixed over the
sand bedding or tiles.
 Shower tray drain outlet shall be connected to waste pipe using an adaptor/bush.
 After installationof the shower tray, apply silicon all around it.
 Shower mixer can be fixed on the wall as per approved drawings, its will be connected to the hot
water and cold water pipes, which we installed prior to the tile works.
 Shower head will be fixed above the mixer as per approved drawing, a flexible hose will be
conneted to the head from the mixer to supply the hot/cold water.

9.2.4 KITCHEN SINK WITH MIXER

 Prior fixing, it will be inspected for any damages and approved materal be used.
 Install the kitchen sink on the exact position (as specified in the approved drawing).
 Fix the sink mixer in the hole and connect the mixer with cold and hot water supply with angle
valve.
 Fix the waste and strainer inside the sink.
 Drainage connection will be made a bottle trap and magic hose, it will be connected to the darin
line as per approved drawings.

9.2.5 TESTING OF FINAL FIXTURES.

 Upon completion of installation of the final fixtures, performance test/leak test can be performed
with water for any leaks and damages to the newly installed final fixtures.
 If any water leak is observed, it should be repaired and the test to be reconducted to the
staisfactory of the authority.
 The test shall be considered as “PASS” if no signs of leakage is observed.
 The inspection sheet(s) shall be signed by the authorities.

9.3 INSTALLATION OF COLD WATER PIPES.

 All installation shall be made as per approved drawings.


 Approved pipes, fittings and valves shall be used for installation.
 Prior to installation the pipes and fittings shall be cleaned properly.
 All supports shall be installed ensuring correct alignment of pipes and location as per
manufacturer recommendation.
 The joining of the pipes shall be using compressed fittings.
 Upon completion of the installation, pressure test can be carried out as per specification.

9.3.1 TESTING OF COLD WATER PIPES

 Upon completion of installation ,the open ended pipes shall suitably plugged or blanked off.
 All joints shall be left uncovered until satisfactory completion of testing.
 Connect a calibrated pressure gauge to the pipe work at suitable location.
 Check and ensure all drain valves are closed and in-line valve are open.
 Start pressurizing the segment/system through hand pump.
 Once the water starts coming out through vent. opening, close the valves at low elevation, repeat
the process until the trapped air out.
 Subject the piping to a pressure of 1.5 times the system working pressure.
 After pressurizing the pipe work to the required pressure, a holding time of 2 hours shall be
allowed.
 Inspect all the joints, valves, fittings etc.for leaks, if there is a drop in pressure.Repair leaks.
 After rectification, the test pressure shall be maintained for a minimum period of 2 hours.
 The test shall be considered as “PASS” if no signs of leakage is observed.
 The inspection sheet(s) shall be signed by the authorities.

10. QUALITY CONTROL


 Quality control for the activity shall be exercised and recorded in accordance with the quality
requirements.
 Inspections shall be raised as per the approved ITP’s
 QP shall be noticed 24 hours prior to the inspection time.
 Work Inspections shall be raised stage wise for all individual activities.
