Que 7. The following data refers to centrifugal pump
Static head =40 m
Diameter of suction delivery pipes =100 m
Suction height=5 m
Loss of head in suction pipes = 2 m
Loss of head in delivery pipes = 8 m
Impeller outer dia = 400 mm
Impeller width at outlet = 25 mm
Rotational speed = 1200 rpm
Manometric efficiency = 80 %
Vanes are curved back at angle of 30 degree to wheel tangent.
Find the power required to drive the pump.
What will be indicated by gauges mounted on suction and delivery
sides ? [14M May'04]

Ans power=649.42 W
Pr reading
ps=0.3 kg/sq cm
Pd=4.3 kg /sqcm

Que 8.Two identical pumps are connected to a pipe system, to lift water to
an overhead tank. Pump 1 has to lift 150 lps against 30 m. pumps 2 has to
work against 25 m . Delivery pipes from pumps 1 and pump 2 join at a point
75 m from pump 1 and very near pump 2. The delivery pipe from pump 1 to
suction is of diameter 300 mm and having f=0.025. The common delivery
pipe from junction to overhead tank as 500 mm diameter,150 m long and of
coefficient of friction 0.02.

Plot curve of total head and efficiency to a base of discharge and find the
specific speed at the best efficiency. The pump is used to lift water from a
reservoir to an irrigation canal through a pipe 30 cm in diameter and 400 m
long, having coefficient of friction 0.0008. The different of the levels
between the water level in the reservoir and canal remark constant at 20 m.

Que 10 Calculate the least diameter of centrifugal pump to just start

delivering water at an actual height of 30 m. If the inside diameter of
impeller is half of outside and pump runs at 1000 rpm [14M Dec 2004]
