1. Using the sample that you have just selected, calculate a 95% two sided
confidence interval for the following:

• Mean of Total Score:

After randomly getting 500 rows of data from the provided excel.

We got,

Mean of the Total score = 55.84

Standard deviation of the Total score = 15.24

Sample size = 500

Z for 95% interval = 1.96

Confidence interval = 55.84 + - 1.96*15.24/Square root(500)

= (54.50, 57.18)

2. Test the following null hypotheses (use α = 0.05)

• The population mean (µ) for TOTAL Score = 56.15

α = 5%

Ho: µ = 56.15

H1: µ does not equal to 56.15

Z = X - µ/siqma/root(n)

Z = 55.84-56.15/15.24/root(500)

Z = 0.01 %

Since p value is greater than α.

We cannot reject the null hypothesis.

3. Many people feel that the younger beneficiaries are likely to absorb better
and perform better. Test the null hypothesis that there is no difference in
the scores between the younger and older beneficiaries.

Mean of younger population x1= 55.11

Mean of older population x2 = 56.10

Standard deviation of younger population (siqma 1) = 14.96

Standard deviation of older population (sigma 2) = 15.02

Sample size (young beneficiaries) = 161

Sample size (old beneficiaries) = 169

Ho: µ1 = µ2

H1: µ1 does not equal to µ2

After putting values in above formula,

We get,

Z = 0.23

Since, p value is greater than α

We cannot reject the null hypothesis.

4. Do women beneficiaries perform better than men? Test this hypothesis.

Is this true in all the components?

For this part,

We will calculate the mean of total score for Male and female.

And using null hypothesis for population mean, we can compare and check
whether we can accept null hypothesis or not.
5. Test the hypothesis that the occupation of the beneficiary has no impact

on either reading, writing or arithmetic.

Here we can use Anova to compare population means in case of each

occupation for reading, writing and arithmetic. And using null hypothesis, we
can check whether occupation of beneficiary has any impact or not.

6. Test whether the Total Score follows normal distribution.

We will use One sample Chi-Square test for goodness of fit. Based on it, we can
check our null hypothesis whether total score follows normal distribution or not.
Alternatively, we can also do using Kolmorgorov-Smirnov (K-S) One sample
test.
