Admission of a less bright student in a prestigious institution

Now-a-days we often come across cases where we find less meritorious student to be in top colleges or prestigious
institutes. Take an example of Bihar Board, where we can see how the candidates with merit background are often
detained and students with less knowledge pass the exam with flying colors. This is how the end up securing seats in
good college with less knowledge.

Situations under which candidates secure admission in prestigious college:

1) Reservation:
“In 2013-15, a Gen category person with a 98 % score (4000 rank out of approximately 200,000 applicants)
did not get admission into IIMA. However, a 90%ile (20,000 rank) from OBC, a 72 %ile (56,000 rank) from
SC and a staggering 40%ile (120,000 rank and probably a negative score) from ST category did”.
The situation of a General category candidate in India is much similar to that of an underdog in a bout or a
contest, the odds are not favorable and the expectations to win are high.
2) Admission on the basis of donation:
Admission through donation implies to corruption and thus, stands forth as a national problem. It is not only
contaminating healthy competition among students but also installing a wrong mindset. In this way, donation
based admissions not only lead to corrupt society but also reflect biased attitude towards merit-listed
aspirants. The worse, this system leaves deserving students bereaved of what they deserve and to a certain
point affect their carrier.
3) Political influence:
We often come across cases where due to political influence students with less marks gain admission in
colleges and make it difficult for student with high mark to get one.

After effects of admission in prestigious college:

1) Students find it difficult to keep it up with their peers as the knowledge grabbing power is different for each
student.
2) Teachers teach the concept with a mindset of above average students so students falling below it face
difficulties.
3) Mental trauma and pressure starts building up on the student and severe consequences can be seen.

Conclusion:
It is the fault of the parents who are too casual with the studies of their wards, but as a prestige and social factors try
to admit their wards in prestigious college. The students don’t focus on their studies initially and try to gain access in
good college which is unfair with the deserving candidates. There is moral dilemma involved in this case which not
only hurts self-respect but also impacts individuals’ confidence and ability to do anything independently. The
candidate becomes reliable on his parents for everything and takes each and every things granted.
