great progress!
-Students will find some edits and a sticky note full of feedback in their folders.
-Today is focused around editing and working hard at the unique stages we are all at in our stories
-Go through quote on board: “The secret to editing your work is simple: you need to become it’s
reader instead of its writer” -Zadie Smith

Teacher Input

Go through instructions/components written on the board

-RESOURCES SECTION & STUDENT PROGRESS SECTIONS

-STUDENT PROGRESS: some students will notice sticky notes on their narrative folders, these
indicate what section of your story should be written today
- I = Intro, no sticky = Rising Action, C = Climax

-RESOURCES: these are all the different tools students can use if they are stuck or out of ideas
(Resources include: purple folders, blue duotangs, writer’s workshop notebooks, peer- and self-
editing sheets from earlier in the week, etc)

Guided Practice

-FIRST, we are going to read and revise our work – refer back to quote
-write 1)READ, 2) REVISE on the board

-5-10 minutes of silently reading our own stories and making any changes we think are necessary

Independent Practice

-As you notice students starting to finish up their self-edit, write the next on steps on the board
-3) WRTITE
-4) REPEAT

-write = once done reading and revising, keep writing and adding to stories
-there are 3 different groups of students today, check out the sticky note you have/ don’t have and
you will be focusing on that section of your story today

-repeat = as you write, continue to re-read your stories, edit them, and add to them.

-the rest of class will be a quiet work period, students will work independently on narrative stories
-utilize the list of resources on the board and check out the feedback I gave you if you are stuck!
