Introduction

My ISCS school uses the EYFS curriculum. It has four principles, they are:
1. Every child is unique.
2. Children learn to be strong and independent.
3. Children learn and develop well in enabling environments.
4. Children embrace learning and development:
- Personal, social & emotional development.
- Language development.
- Literacy.
- Mathematics Problem-solving.
- Knowledge & understanding of the world.
- Physical development.
- Creativity.

The curriculum has influenced my lesson planning and implementing, I had to include some differentiation in my focused activities
and make sure to give variety of activities around the classroom, so the students will not only have an enabling environment but
also, they will learn to be independent. Each activity will attract different students because each child is unique.
My MST has influenced me with her creative Ideas of hands on activities for the students, that’s embracing the students learning in a
fun way.

I will start the lesson by sharing the learning outcomes to the students
Hello everyone, today we are going to study about something special, our lesson will be about the plants and adding.
Our learning objectives for today are:
The students will be able to add 2 single digits numbers.
The students will be able to use different materials to do the planting activity.

Warm up: Let’s play a game about the plants we will pretend that we are seeds (we will curl down on the floor)
Then the roots will come out (we will put our feet on the ground), then the steam will grow up (we stand straight), after that the leaves
will grow (we wave our arms on our sides), after that the flower comes out (we move our heads pretending it’s a flower).

Addition game: I will ask the students to sit in groups:

I will use the multilink cube and ask them to choose their favorite color and link few of them together, then add 2 more. how much did
you get? (I choose few kids to answer)

planting video (start the video starts at 1:14 mins) every child a seed demonstration part2 what do you think the video will be about?
I will stop the video from time to time to ask the students what do you think will happened next? why did we do that? what do you
think if we put the seed first?

After we finish the video I will ask the students to

Turn to your partner (on the mat) and talk about how we can plant the plants (the steps).

When they finish I will say: Okay Eyes on me, class class, they will answer me yes yes.

Lesson 1 Reflection

In today’s lesson, I noticed that the majority of the students have achieved the lesson learning outcomes. because I have shared the
success criteria with them at the beginning of the lesson, so they will be aware of our target for the lesson today, then I asked them
about it at the end of the lesson to check if they have achieved it.
In my planting activity I have included the EYFS method of understanding the world, I have guided the students to make sense of the
outside environment by planting together.
I used different types of class work, such as whole class work for the worming up activity, group work in the blocks area, pair work
on the mat when I told them to talk to their partner, and individual in the math and literacy areas. I’m glad that all of them have
worked, I was able to see the different abilities that the students have such as group work, sharing, and independence.
The time management in today’s lesson was perfect, we started and finished as planned because I wrote the timing of every step on
my lesson plan and I kept checking my watch from time to time during the lesson to keep track of it.
I feel that the materials on the planting activity kept the students interested. The activity was out of the routine and they seemed to
enjoy it because I used a variety of materials.

On the other side, the students started to get messy on the table because they were fighting to get the materials such as pouring the
water or the soil accidently on the table.
Also, on the mat I noticed that the students did not understand some of the “yes or no cards” assessment’s questions from me, I saw
them looking at me confused. Because I forgot some of the questions and I was coming up with new questions at the same time, so
my language might have not been clear for them.

v. 2015-02-16 6
Amna Matar H00354331

Also, I was not able to see all the students’ progress because I was focusing on the focused planting activity, while the other groups
had the teacher and the teacher assistant to look after, even though I took one round around the groups, but I don’t think that’s
enough to get the students’ progress from.
The other problem is that I was not able to give an opportunity for all the class to participate in all of the activities. I don’t think we
can fix this problem since it’s in the school’s curriculum that they don’t do rotation, but at least I tried to have 2 or 3 groups to do
the planting activity.

By the end of the lesson I asked the students if they liked the lesson and most of them said that they do like my lesson, and they
mentioned that they liked the planting activity the most.
My MST said that I did very well in this lesson and I was well prepared for it.

If I had an opportunity to teach this lesson again, I will give the students instructions before I hand them the materials because I
noticed that they didn’t pay attention to my instructions and started playing with the materials on the table. Also, if the material was
shared or there was only one piece of it, I will let them take turns on it.
And, I will have to memorize the questions that I will assess the students on, so I don’t get nerves and confuse the students with me.

Sharing the planet

Circle-Greeting and warm up: 15 minutes

I will Introduce the learning objectives:

- students will be able to differentiate between tall and short objects.
- the students will be able to recognize the sound Qu in the words.
- The student will be able to tell facts about Europe.

I will tell the students that we are going to learn about Europe today.
then play a video that talks about fun facts about Europe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zs_DldO_G1w
I will pause the video few times and ask them questions about the content: (where is Europe in this map?, they have a huge swing in Estonia, will you
ride it ? in Romania the is a guy who has a big castle, he pretends to be a Dracula to scare the people away from his castle. In UAE we use cars to move
from place to another, but in Italy they use boats, why? because they have a lot of water canals there.

I will the sound Introduce “Qu”, I will write (Qu/ Queen) on the board,
I will show them the picture of the queen on the smart board.
then talk about queen Elizabeth. she is the queen of the United Kingdom, and do you know that she was not going to school, but she was studying
privately at home.

Guided experience:
On the carpet I will ask the students work with partner and use the multilinks to make two sets of links with different height, for example: a short red and
a long blue.
Then use your favorite color of multilinks to make 9 multilinks together.

Lesson 2 Reflection

In today’s lesson I had three learning objectives:

- students will be able to differentiate between tall and short objects.
- the students will be able to recognize the sound Qu in words.
- The student will be able to tell facts about Europe. (to meet my IB Unit of inquiry “Sharing the planet”).
I explained the outcomes to the students in a clear way to have them all understand it, I told them by the end of the lesson I will ask
you if you have achieved/learned it, so pay attention to the lesson. Most of the students have met the learning outcomes, which
means I was able to deliver the information successfully to the students.
I used simple language in the lesson, so my instructions were clear and understandable to the students.
I have followed the Reggio Emilia’s method that stressed on how importation relationships are to collaborate and share knowledge,
so provided pair work and group work; I used the pair work on the mat to ask the students to make short and tall multi-links, while I
used the group work in the blocks area to let them share the materials and collaborate to build the Eiffel tower.
Also, I’m proud that I had a variety of materials in my activities, so it made my activities more hands-on and exciting to the kids.
For example, my Qu sound activity had: circular beige papers, square colored papers, Markers, glue, glitter, words cuttings. Those
materials made the students interested in doing the activity.

On the other hand, the students seemed to enjoy the "qu" sound activity the most, so most of them were sitting on that table doing
the queen craft, which made pressure on that table and left the other activities with fewer students. One of the reasons that the

crowd happened was because I forgot to introduce the computer game to the students even though I have already prepared it. So, I
had fewer activities than the usual for them to keep them busy.
Also, the activities took longer time than I expected. I tried to ask the students to clean up, but some of them were loitering in the
activity centers, I couldn’t control the students at that time, so I asked the teacher for help. I ended up having less time on the circle
time 2 (conclusion), but I managed to reflect with the students on what they have learned today in 2 minutes. I’m glad the student
seemed to understand what we did in the lesson.

If I taught this lesson again, I would put an alarm or a countdown for the students, so they will be aware of the time left for the
activities. and when the time finishes, I will play the cleanup song on a loud volume using the smart board, so the students will get
excited to clean up, and I will be able to save my time and my vocal tones.
I felt that the students might be lacking motivation, so I will need to use a strategy like giving stickers to manage their behavior.
My MST said that she liked my lesson, but she advises me to use 3d materials on the mat to introduce the students to the lesson
through it, like flashcards or props, because today I have only used the smart board and the whiteboard in the circle time.
