6 Windows network & firewall setup:

For the ArtistaNET to function properly, it is necessary to deactivate TCP-Port 28242 of the Windows-Firewall before
continuing with the installation. Please follow the steps below.
If using another type of firewall, the port should be deactivated in a similar manner.

1. Plug in the ArtistaNET card as described in Chapter 2. Use either a direct connection by using a “crossover
cable” or connect via a network hub or switch using standard cables.

2. Open the Network device settings, select “Properties”.

1 2 3 4 5

- Select the TCP/IP protocol (1).

- Select “Properties” (2).
- Select “Use the following IP-address” (3)
- Choose the server address you wish to use for the ArtistaNET devices (standard is 192.168.0.100) (4).
The subnet-mask is also preset to 255.255.255.0.
- Click “OK” once you have entered the proper values for your network configuration. (5)

3. Open the Windows-Firewall.

6 7 8
- Select “Advanced” (6).
- Select “Settings” (7).
- Select “Exceptions” (8).

9 10 11 12 13 14
- Select the “Exceptions” tab (6)
- Click the “Port” button (7)
- Type in an easily recognizable name such as “ArtistaNET” (11) and then set the port number to “28242”
(12) and select “TCP” (13)
- Click “OK” to accept these settings (14).

4. The firewall will now permit the use of ArtistaNET cards.

5. The ArtistaNET and/or ArtistaUSB cards can now be connected to the system.

7 ArtistaNet Configuration

7.1 Default Settings

 IP-Address: 192.168.0.1
 Netmask: 255.255.255.0
 Hostname: ArtistaNet-xx-xx-xx (the last 6 bytes of the device’s MAC address)
 Artista Server-IP: 192.168.0.100
 Login Name: Artista
 Password: Artista

7.2 Resetting the ArtistaNet to its default settings

There are two ways to return the ArtistaNet to its default settings. One way is to perform a hardware reset as described
below. The other is through use of the web interface described in the very first part of chapter 8.5.
Hardware Reset Procedure:
 Short CN22 Pins 5 and 6
 Supply power to the ArtistaNet
 Wait at least 15 seconds
 Unshort the pins
 Allow the device to boot-up

Upon resetting the card to factory defaults, the card will be set to maintenance/rescue mode. From there, you
can set the card to factory default via “Restart Artista” and then by choosing the option “Reset network
configuration to factory defaults” and restarting the card.

Important Note:
When the card is not restarted from the maintenance/rescue mode, you will not be able to communicate with the
Artista driver and will not see the bootup logo upon repowering the card!
You must restart from this mode with proper settings in order to return the card back to the normal run mode!

8 Web Browser based configuration interface

The ArtistaNet configuration interface can be used with any common web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera,
Konqueror and many others).
Establish the connection by typing the URL: https://192.168.0.1 (please notice the https) in your browser. The
configuration interface is protected by SSL encryption as well as a password as mentioned above.
You must accept an SSL certificate issued to Distec GmbH, Research & Design in order to continue. The SSL encryption
prevents your login password from being sniffed out and compromised over the network.

On some systems, problems caused by the browser’s cache may occur. To avoid problems during configuration, please
disable your browser cache while configuring the ArtistaNET devices and flush your browser cache after each
configuration step.

After confirming the SSL certificate it is required to type in your login name and password:

8.1 Network Configuration

Note:
Each ArtistaNET and each corresponding server require a unique IP. Please ensure that each corresponding server
keeps its IP address constant. To achieve this, assign static IP addresses to the corresponding servers and for each
ArtistaNET. If your network uses DHCP, ensure that the IP addresses are not used by the DHCP scope and/or that a
reservation is made for each IP used by the ArtistaNET and corresponding servers. Please contact your network
administrator for details.

The first step in configuring the ArtistaNET, involve setting up the network parameters. The settings entered can be
saved by clicking the “Submit configuration” button. If you want to reset the fields, click “Reset configuration”. This will
have no effect on the actual configuration settings. It only clears the form data.

If you like to use DHCP to configure network on your device dynamically, just tick the “Use DHCP” checkbox:

To reach your device by its Hostname your DHCP server has to be able to pass Hostnames to the DNS. The hostname
will have the following form: ArtistaNet-xx-xx-xx (ArtistaNet- followed by the last 3 Bytes of its MAC address). If you are
not sure what your current network settings are and thus not able to connect to your device anymore you can see the
relevant settings at device start-up on its screen. As a last resort you can make hardware reset of your device which will
reset everything to default.
If DHCP setup fails, the ArtistaNET’s network will be configured with default settings.

If you have a working DNS system in your network it is also possible to specify the ArtistaNET Server with its hostname.

Don’t forget to reboot your device when network setup is done.

8.3 Backlight Settings

This menu item allows you to configure the backlight of the ArtistaNET. Values range from “0” up to “255” where “0”
represents the minimum brightness and “255” the maximum brightness provided by the TFT-Display and backlight
inverter.
The values can be tested before saving by checking the “Test value” check box (enabled by default). The settings can
be saved by checking the “Store value” check box.

8.4 Password Settings

It is recommended that you change the password using the following menu item:

The username Artista cannot be modified. The password must be entered twice to prevent a mistype password. The
“Reset” button only resets the form data. To reset a stored password to the default value, a hardware reset (described
in chapter 7.2 needs to be performed. Save the new password by pressing “Submit”. A new login window will be
displayed if you select any other item in the menu to the left.

8.5 Firmware Update

Updating the firmware is a three step process. First, start the update procedure by clicking on the button “Restart
ArtistaNET”. Here, the desired network configuration can be selected. The network configuration can either be saved
or reset to the default values as described in chapter 7.1.
Please note that if you reset the network configuration, the network settings the host computer needs to be changed
accordingly.

For a Step by Step Firmware Update process see chapter 9.

Next, click “Restart ArtistaNET” and the ArtistaNET will restart in a special “update” mode. The firmware can only be
updated in this mode. This is to prevent rendering the hardware unusable should anything go wrong during the
update process.

Please reload the web page in your browser to see the new ArtistaNET firmware update page:
