2 Hardware Setup
For the ArtistaNET to function properly, it is necessary to deactivate TCP-Port 28242 of the Windows-Firewall before
continuing with the installation. Please follow the steps below.
If using another type of firewall, the port should be deactivated in a similar manner.
1. Plug in the ArtistaNET card as described in Chapter 2. Use either a direct connection by using a “crossover
cable” or connect via a network hub or switch using standard cables.

5. The ArtistaNET and/or ArtistaUSB cards can now be connected to the system.
7 ArtistaNet Configuration
Upon resetting the card to factory defaults, the card will be set to maintenance/rescue mode. From there, you
can set the card to factory default via “Restart Artista” and then by choosing the option “Reset network
configuration to factory defaults” and restarting the card.
Important Note:
When the card is not restarted from the maintenance/rescue mode, you will not be able to communicate with the
Artista driver and will not see the bootup logo upon repowering the card!
You must restart from this mode with proper settings in order to return the card back to the normal run mode!
On some systems, problems caused by the browser’s cache may occur. To avoid problems during configuration, please
disable your browser cache while configuring the ArtistaNET devices and flush your browser cache after each
configuration step.
After confirming the SSL certificate it is required to type in your login name and password:
The first step in configuring the ArtistaNET, involve setting up the network parameters. The settings entered can be
saved by clicking the “Submit configuration” button. If you want to reset the fields, click “Reset configuration”. This will
have no effect on the actual configuration settings. It only clears the form data.
If you like to use DHCP to configure network on your device dynamically, just tick the “Use DHCP” checkbox:
To reach your device by its Hostname your DHCP server has to be able to pass Hostnames to the DNS. The hostname
will have the following form: ArtistaNet-xx-xx-xx (ArtistaNet- followed by the last 3 Bytes of its MAC address). If you are
not sure what your current network settings are and thus not able to connect to your device anymore you can see the
relevant settings at device start-up on its screen. As a last resort you can make hardware reset of your device which will
reset everything to default.
If DHCP setup fails, the ArtistaNET’s network will be configured with default settings.
If you have a working DNS system in your network it is also possible to specify the ArtistaNET Server with its hostname.
The entry “Hardware configuration” is reserved for future use. To prevent your ArtistaNet from malfunctioning, do not
upload any file that is not supported by Distec.
This menu item allows you to configure the backlight of the ArtistaNET. Values range from “0” up to “255” where “0”
represents the minimum brightness and “255” the maximum brightness provided by the TFT-Display and backlight
inverter.
The values can be tested before saving by checking the “Test value” check box (enabled by default). The settings can
be saved by checking the “Store value” check box.
The username Artista cannot be modified. The password must be entered twice to prevent a mistype password. The
“Reset” button only resets the form data. To reset a stored password to the default value, a hardware reset (described
in chapter 7.2 needs to be performed. Save the new password by pressing “Submit”. A new login window will be
displayed if you select any other item in the menu to the left.
Next, click “Restart ArtistaNET” and the ArtistaNET will restart in a special “update” mode. The firmware can only be
updated in this mode. This is to prevent rendering the hardware unusable should anything go wrong during the
update process.
Please reload the web page in your browser to see the new ArtistaNET firmware update page:
Click “Upload firmware update” on the form and then choose the correct firmware image. Please ensure that the
firmware image you select is compatible with your hardware.
Once you have uploaded the file it will be saved. If no errors occurred, you can reset the ArtistaNET back into its normal
operating mode by selecting “Restart Artista” from the menu on the left.
At this stage, you can once again choose between the current network configuration and the default settings. The
current network configuration is enabled by default.
If you select “Restart ArtistaNET” after updating the firmware, the ArtistaNET should be accessible again after
approximately 60 seconds.
9 Firmware Update
Connect to the ArtistaNet device as described in chapter 8 (default: HTTPS://192.168.0.1).
The "ArtistaNet Configuration" screen occurs.
In some cases you can get trouble with browser caching with this Step.
If you want to prevent errors, you have to delete your browser cache (IE: "Tools" – "Delete Browsing History…" –
"History" and “Form data" – select "Buttons" – and click "Yes") to refresh your browser window (IE: press [F5]), and
select "Restart Artista"
Press "browse…" to look for your appropriate firmware update file. Please contact your FAE to get the firmware update
file that fits.
After choosing the firmware update file, press "Upload firmware update to ArtistaNet"".
After approx. half a minute the confirmation that the hardware setup was done occurs.
Press "RestartArtistaNet" and flush your browser cache again. Now you are back in the standard mode again. Update
was done successfully
