Setting: Talking to a bible study

loida: Hi Jemila, how's work? How is your son. he's growing up very fast...

Jem: Yeah..bringing him up is very challenging now a days. He's becoming more and
more difficult to handle. My parents told me that I'm too linient.. They want me to be
more strict in dealing with him. But I felt bad when my son cried after I discipline him..

Loida: I understand what you mean Jemila. Undeniably, parenting is a hard work
specially now a days. But But what do you think will happen if you dont discipline your
son? Will it help him in the long run?

I remember one account in the bible...Eli the High priest and his sons Hophni and
Phinehas.

Maybe we can read from the acct from the bible..(1samuel 2:22-25)

JEM: Read 1samuel 2:22-25

LOIDA: Eli's two sons Hophni and Phinehas were serving as a priest in the tabernacle..
But they were practicing detestable things in the eyes of Jehovah. They were only
interested in satisfying their own bellies and unclean sexual desires. They abused their
position as a priest to carrying out their vices and theft at the expense of pure of
Jehovah's pure worship...But instead of removing them from their office, ELI the high
priest (their father) just mildy rebuke them.
What's the consequences of their action?

JEM: In the last part of 1sam 2:25 says.......Jehovah was determined to put them to
death.
LOIDA: Retribution comes according to God’s word. In 1Sam 4:2-18 Hophni and
Phinehas died in the battle with the Philistine, then the Ark of Covenant was captured
upon hearing that Eli falls over backward and dies of a broken neck.
From the acct JEM, what do we learn with regards to Eli's dealing with his children?

JEMILA- permissiveness dishonors Jehovah and children brought reproach to their

family..
Which means permissiveness will do more harm to the children rather than good.

Loida- Yeah right.. I like this scripture in Heb 12:11

JEMILA- read Heb 12:11-

Loida: As a parent, we should not fear that balance discipline will damage our children.
Yes in the beginning it will hurt them.
But on the other hand, loving and balance discipline will train the child's thinking ability
and shape his moral character. It will also help him learn to accept correction humbly- a
skill that they will need later in life.
I have this magazine with me entitled WHATEVER HAPPEND TO DISCIPLINE..
In page 7 there are three pointers that we need to consider when administering
discipline to our children...

1. BE LOVING-
2. BE CONSISTENT-
3. BE REASONABLE-

Jemila: thanks for the sharing with me this points Loida..

I will surely read this magazine...
