Gender identity:

Gender identity is defined as a personal conception on how someone sees themselves and
their gender whether it be as male, female, both, or neither. For example, if a female feels
like a female then she will identify as a female. However, that is the typical situation and
that is not always the case. There can be other instances for example, where someone has
the biological sex of a male, but they feel like a female on the inside and choose to
identify as a female. In some instances, gender identity can coincide with gender
expression, but that is not always the case.

Gender Expression:
Gender expression is the way we show our gender to the world around us and can be
expressed through things like appearance and mannerism. For example, a male who
identifies as male can express his gender by making sure he is seen as masculine and
being tough and doing manly things like lifting heavy weights and working on cars.
However, a male who identifies as male can also participate in more feminine actions like
caring about his looks and getting his eyebrows done. It is very possible to have both
female and male expressions and only identify with one gender. Gender expression is
highly connected with society and what society deems acceptable mannerisms of certain
genders.

Biological Sex:
Biological sex is the physical gender characteristics that you were born with and can
include things like chromosomes, hormones, genitalia, body shape, and many more. We
all of course know the main differences in males and females are that males typically
have a penis/testosterone and women typically have a vagina/estrogen. However, it is rare
and possible that sometimes some people are born with both genitalia, which in turn
means they produce both hormones. Biological sex plays no role when it comes to gender
identity and as the years go by it has become easier and easier for the sex to be
transformed to match the identity.

Reflection:
As for me personal, my gender is female because of my biological sex, which is XX at a
genetic level. I would classify my gender identity as being female. I feel like and see
myself as a female and express myself in that way. I like to get all dressed up in dresses
and make up, but I also have a somewhat masculine side you can say as categorized by
society because I like to do activities like weight lifting and shooting. As for my
sexuality, I am heterozygous. This means that I am attracted to the opposite sex. I feel
comfortable sharing these details about my life because no matter what the answers are,
you are who you are and you should be proud of that. There are no wrong or right
answers to things like this.
