Lesson - unit/page comparing fractions Student teacher Fatema Altenaiji

MST Courtney Mcmanman School Rak Academy – PYP

Class Grade 2 Date 6/November/2018

- Overall aim and context of the lesson: Students will be able to

- recall the multiplication table orally by the butterflies' game
- Students will be able to compare between different fractions by using the butterfly strategy
- Students will be able to assess the comparing sign between two fractions by the assessment sheet

Select (S):
This is the second math lesson about fractions, specifically comparing between the fractions, standards that I am
addressing through this lesson is compare between fractions using butterfly method and assess the comparing sign
between two fractions

Describe (D):
The lesson is for grade 2 students in the math class. in this lesson I am trying to achieve the butterfly method as a
strategy to compare between the fractions. In addition, by this lesson I am using the crocodile mouth as a way to
explain how students would compare between the comparing signs to helps them compare between fractions.
students were engaged and interesting in the butterfly method to compare and the crocodile mouth as a sign.
Analyze (A):
In my opinion students responded the way they did because they were having a creative strategy in teaching the
lesson which supports to engage them in the activities and motivate them which improved their learning process.
Students learn better when they are actively engaged with active learning strategies that motivates them to learn.
(Jones, & Bartlet, 2013) I think my teaching relate to student's prior knowledge about the fraction's parts using they
use nominator and denominator to compare between them. Moreover, learners were well engaged in the lesson.

Appraise (A):
The nature of the experience from student's perspective was good. The lesson was smoothing, and it was very well
planned. The activities were sequenced, and the learners were motivated in the learning

Transform (T):
I might enhance students learning of this lesson in the future by doing different kinds of activities about fractions by
for example doing a game of fraction and display it in the computer, students could answer it and get a class point.
