assignment has not previously been submitted for assessment in any formal course of study.
Qadar is Allah’s knowing of everything in pre-eternity, what happened and what will
happen whether good or bad from pre-eternity to past eternity, their time, place and characteristics,
and His ordaining and determining them. Qada is His creation of things and events when their time
is due based on His pre-eternal knowledge and ordaining.

Allah created the whole universe and everything in it whether living or non-living. Allah
knows everything that will happen in the universe, He also knows the actions of the tiniest particle
in detail. His knowledge covers everything. The unique system and wonderful order seen in the
universe shows that Allah planned it knowingly and that he creates everything based on that plan
when it is time.

Belief in qada and qadar means to believe without doubt that Allah knows everything
including the past and the future. Qadar is divided into two categories which are qadar that may
change and qadar that does not change. For example, the appointed time of death that does not
change called as ajal al-mussamma. In Quranic verse : “ Death is never late even for a moment,
nor does it come before time is up” [Al A’raf 34 ]. As for qadar that can be change is a person’s
lifetime and sustenance ( rizq ) according to his deeds and effort. It can be proven in the Quran, “
Allah erases what He wishes, and He does not change what He does not wish to, Ummul kitab Al-
Luh Al-Mahfuz is with him [ Ar-Ra’d 39 ].

The purpose of this assignment is to present the meaning of qada and qadar and the
importance of believing in qada and qadar in one’s daily life. This assignment exchange views on
several issues such as commentaries of al Jalalayn and Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi , verse and
commentaries of surah Al-Hadid [ 22 & 23 ] and importance of thousand dinars.
Refering to tafsir al Jalalayn , the meaning of this verse is : “And whoever puts his trust in
God regarding his affairs He will suffice him. Indeed God fulfils His command His will a variant
reading for bālighun amrahu has the genitive construction bālighu amrihi. Verily God has ordained
for everything even things such as comfort and hardship a measure a fixed time.

Next, refering to Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, these words clearly show that the instructions
given above are in the nature of advice and not law. If a man pronounces divorce against the
approved method as explained above, or fails to reckon the waiting-period accurately. or expels
the wife from the house without a good reason, or returns to her at the end of the waiting-period
only to harass her, or sends her away after a quarrel, or fails to call the men to witness the divorce,
reconciliation, or separation, if will not affect the legal effects of divorce or reconciliation or
separation at all. However, his acting against Allah's advice would be a proof that his heart was
devoid of the taste faith in Allah and the Last Day. That is why he adopted a course which a true
believer would never adopt.

The context itself shows that here "fearing Allah in whatever one does" means to pronounce
divorce in accordance with the approved method taught by the Sunnah to reckon the waiting-period
accurately, to avoid turning the wife out of the house, to take the wife back if one decides to keep
her, at the expiry of the waiting-period with the intention of keeping her equitably and to send her
away in a fair manner if one decides to part with her, and to call two just men to witness the
divorce, reconciliation or separation, as the case be. In respect of this, Allah says that whoever acts
in fear of Him, He will open for him a way out of the difficulties This automatically gives the
meaning That whoever does not fear Allah in these matters, will create for himself such
complications and difficulties from which he will find no way out.
A study of these words clearly shows that the view of those who hold that the irregular (bid
i) form of divorce does not take place at all, and of those who regard a triple divorce pronounced
at once or during the same period of purity as a single divorce, is not correct. For if an irregular
form of divorce does not take place at all, it does not create any complication from which one may
have to find a way out; and if only a single divorce takes place when one has pronounced three
divorces at once, then also there arises no need for a person to seek a way out of a difficulty or
complication.

It means: "Keeping the divorced wife in the house during the waiting period, to maintain her and
to pay her the dower, or something in addition, at departure certainly burdens a man financially.
To spend on a woman whom one has already decided to send away because of strained relations
will surely be irksome, and if the man is also poor, this expenditure will further pinch him. But a
man who fears Allah, should endure all this gracefully. Allah is not niggardly as the people are. If
a person spends his wealth in accordance with His law, He will provide for him in a manner beyond
all expectations."

22. No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves but is inscribed in the Book of Decrees (Al-
Lauh Al-Mahfuz), before We bring it into existence. Verily, that is easy for Allah.
23. In order that you may not grieve at the things that you fail to get, nor rejoice over that which
has been given to you. And Allah likes not prideful boasters.

Students are synonym with problems either with their studies, friends or even with their
families. The verse [22 & 23] helps students to overcome anxiety regarding their responsibility in
their life and the events that come to pass. It helps them beating depression about things not
working out the way they planned and gives relief from anguish connected with the reason of what
is happening around. We are being assured that it’s pointless to grieve about what we missed of
fortune, because if it had been destined for us, we wouldn’t have missed it. What Allah has granted
us shouldn’t make us arrogant with others. Neither should we entertain the delusion that our
intelligence and efforts excelling those of others, made us worthy of our good fortune. Pride is a
vice that Allah wants us to discard.

We can take examination as example. Students struggled day and night, having sleepless
night, studying and revising for papers they are going to face. But on the day of the results, when
they failed to achieve what they expected, most of them started to feel down, depressed and
disappointed. They should’ve accepted it with open heart and redha as it is stated by Him that it’s
their rizq at that moment.

Story behind this verse is said that a merchant has paid a thousand dinars to get this verse
which is said to be his fadhilat to save his readers from the disaster. On the way back, the merchant
ship had hit the waves and he continued to read the verse. With the permission of Allah SWT, he
was only one who survived the disaster. The advantages of this thousand dinars is to eliminate
anxiety. Allah will provide a solution for every problems encountered. Furthermore, reading this
verse to a sick person 3 times could heal the patient with the will of Allah.

To conclude, believing in qadar is the real test of the extent of a person’s belief in Allah. It
is the true test of how much a person really knows about Allah and what results from this
knowledge of certain and sincere faith in Allah, and His attributes of majesty and perfection. That
is because qadar raises many questions for the one who gives free rein to his reasoning to try to
fully comprehend it.

Allah guides us to those actions that should be performed, when faced with trials and
tribulations. We should always be patient. In addition to this, we should not get over emotional
and forget who created us but rather we should always remember that to Allah we belong and to
Him we shall return. We, as His slave should also seek assistance from Him, seek for du’a and
always ask Allah to relieve us of this trial and rewards us for our patience.
