BFC 34303 Civil Engineering Statistics

SEMESTER I 2018/2019

GROUP PROJECT

Instructions:

1. Form a group of maximum 5 people.

2. Collect two sets of numerical data (minimum 50 random samples for each set of data) with regard
to any traffic violations (i.e. number of vehicles make an illegal turning at the roundabout, number
of pedestrians crossing outside the marked crosswalk, number of vehicles involved in illegal
parking, speeding problems, etc.) occurred in UTHM campus.
3. If applicable, collect also the nominal data obtained from your samples (i.e. gender, etc.).
4. Each group MUST collect their own data.
5. If applicable, make use of the mobile apps to collect the numerical data (i.e. Traffic counter apps
to collect the traffic volume data, speed gun apps to collect vehicle speed data, speedometer apps
to collect pedestrian speed data, etc.).
6. Analyse the data set by using descriptive AND inferential statistics that you have learned throughout
this course.
7. Your report should consists the following:
a) Introduction – the selection of topic (background of study)
b) Data collection method
c) Data presentation
d) Data analysis (by using various statistical methods)
e) Results and discussions
f) Conclusions
8. The report must be in English and free from plagiarism. Offenders will get ZERO MARK straightaway.
9. Submit your report in MS. Word format (including the raw data) and save it in a CD. Write your
group members’ names and your project title on top of the CD.

Marks : 25 %

Due date : 13th December 2018 (Thursday) before 15:30hrs (Fail to do so will impact your
Marks)
