Summative assessment task: 
Task: Research Paper 
● Your task is to write a formal research paper on the topic of your choice.  
● You will synthesize the research you have compiled to support your ideas and 
document that research using citations.  
● You will also include graphs or charts that you create, which supplement your 
research.  
● You will use the appropriate format (font, font size, spacing, indentation size) 
when submitting the final product. 
 
Think:  

Communication​​ is the key concept for this unit. Why might I have selected it for this 
unit? (this might might be important when thinking of your audience) 

This unit is a research unit and we have to write an research paper about what we 
got from the research. The purpose of this paper is to communicate to our 
audience what we have researched and what are the points we want to let the 
readers understand and take from it. To create effective communication, we have to 
select the right format to present this in. 
 

What does a formal research paper look like? 

A formal research paper looks is like an essay but with pictures and written in the 
third-person perspective. Since it is a research paper most of it will be facts and 
there will be less bias. Unlike an essay where there is only words in paragraphs a 
formal research paper can include pictures, diagrams, or charts. 
 

Structure​​ and ​purpose​​ are the related concepts I have selected. Why might they be 
of particular importance for this style of writing? 

Structure is important for this style of writing because we have to select the

appropriate structure for out research paper so that it is not informal. Structure is 
also about how we organize our ideas on the paper, if we organized them wrongly 
and its not in order then our ideas won’t be building up on each other and that will 
make the reader confused about out writing.  
Without a purpose out paper will be boring because a purpose means that we have 
a message that we want to convey to the audience and if we don’t have a purpose 
then why would they readers read out paper. A purpose makes everything make 
sense. 
 

You have been given the opportunity to select your own Global Context for this. 
Which have you selected, justify why. 

I have selected identities and relationships because this global context is dealing 
with how other people see you as a person, how they perceive you, and this global 
context also talks about the physical health and mental health of a person which is 
what my research paper is all about. 
 

If you could choose just two ​ATL Skills​ to help you with your summative task, which 
would they be? Justify why.  
 
Communication and research. I chose communication because with good 
communication which means easy to understand and follow, this will make the 
reader read the paper without a problem of confusion. I chose research because 
this is a research paper we are writing and without good research or good 
information, it will make the paper not a research paper anymore. Instead it will be 
like an analytical essay which is bias. We do not want a lot of bias in the paper.
