Metadata Reading
First you need to remove the previous shipment from /tran/tmp. E.g. SHIPMENT051

vsm10% cd /tran/tmp
vsm10% ls –la
vsm10% \rm –rf SHIPMENT051

Type metrode command as follows to read the metadata:

vsm10% pwd
/tran/tmp
vsm10% metrode 17GNX

You will be asked to enter the metadata tape number (e.g. 50). Then you should mount the tape
into drive and select the drive number from the menu (e.g. 1).

vsm10% metrode 17GNX

You may choose to change the default MET tape number now, for example
if you wish to recreate an existing transcription set.

Enter MET tape No. [default: 52]:

52
MET tape number has been reset to 52

Please select the drive:

1. RMT0N
2. RMT1N
3. RMT2N
4. RMT3N
Your option: 1
Please make sure the tape is mounted in drive /dev/rmt/0n and press enter

Tapes Reading
First you need to print the labels for the tapes using convram3592 command:
vsm10% cd /usr/local/3D_FLD/17GNX // you’ve to be in this directory first
vsm10% convram3592 17GNX.xas 17GNX.ram.in52

Then it will ask you to select a stream:

Please select a stream as follows:
(1) Multifile file tapes
(2) Single file tapes.
Choice: 2

Select (2) Single file tapes.

Then you will be asked you if you wish to create a label file, say yes.
Do you wish to create a label file (y/n)?
y
Label file is 18JWA.ram.in01.lab. Do you wish to print it (y/n)?

The new list after finish executing this command:

vsm10% ls –altr
total 44
drwxrwxr-x 404 fouad geovect 20480 Dec 4 13:36 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 ramuser geovect 1526 Dec 4 13:36 18JWA.xas.org
-rw-r--r-- 1 ramuser geovect 1512 Dec 5 08:14 18JWA.xas
-rw-rw-rw- 1 ramuser geovect 1092 Dec 5 08:14 18JWA.ram.in01.2
-rw-rw-rw- 1 ramuser geovect 3485 Dec 5 08:14 18JWA.ram.in01.import
-rwxrwxrwx 1 ramuser geovect 371 Dec 5 08:14 18JWA.ram.in01.lab

11
Copy the .import file (e.g. 18JWA.ram.in01.import) and type ram command as follows:
vsm10% cd /usr/local/3D_FLD/17GNX // you’ve to be in this directory first
vsm10% ram

The RODE Archive Manager window will appear as shown in Figure 11.

Figure 11: RODE Archive Manager

Select import from File menu. Paste .import file in the Import Flatfile field. In the Output Type
press on None button. Then click on Import button then Done (see Figure 12).

Figure 12: RAM - Import

Next step is to make four copies of the .import file (e.g. 17GNX.ram.in52.import) as follows:

12
vsm10% cp 17GNX.ram.in52.import 17GNX.ram.in52.01.import
vsm10% cp 17GNX.ram.in52.import 17GNX.ram.in52.02.import
vsm10% cp 17GNX.ram.in52.import 17GNX.ram.in52.03.import
vsm10% cp 17GNX.ram.in52.import 17GNX.ram.in52.04.import

Divide the number of tapes so that it can be distributed equally to the 4 available drives. For
example if number of tapes is 48, each drive can accommodate 12 tapes. So edit the range of
each copy. For example put the first 12 tapes in .01.import file, then the next 12 tapes in
.02.import file and so on.

Now you can organize the tapes according to the division you made and label them. Then run
ramcopy.UHP & command four times and select the four .import files.

vsm10% ramcopy.UHP &

Figure 13: ramcopy.UHP

Then select one of the .import files, read the barcode of the tape and the drive device name.

13
Once the transcription is done, run ram command:

vsm10% cd /usr/local/3D_FLD/17GNX // you’ve to be in this directory first

vsm10% ram

Figure 14: RODE Archive Manager

Go to Attributes/Select. The following window will appear:

Figure 15: RAM -Select

Click on Edit button and write the following: bc.input_source_bc between

'FLD_XXXXX___aaaa' and 'FLD_XXXXX___bbbb’, where XXXXX is the shipment name, aaaa is
the first tape number and bbbb is last tape number (See Figure 16).

14
bc.input_source_bc between 'FLD_17GNX___0100' and
'FLD_17GNX___5500'

15
After that go to Attributes/View. The following window will appear:

Figure 18: RAM-View

Click on Snapshot button and add 'XXXXX.aaaa-bbbb.sum’ to Selection field, where XXXXX is
the shipment name, aaaa is the first tape number and bbbb is last tape number (See Figure 19).

Figure 19: Save View Snapshot

16
Do ls –altr and you will find the .sum file in /usr/local/3D_FLD/xxxxx. Now we need to edit that
file. Type vi XXXXX.aaaa-bbbb.sum. As it seems in the picture below.

Figure 20: sum file

Delete the middle section of the file (See Figure 21).
