Grading
Grade Breakdown:

Students’ grades will be based on the following components:

Homework 20%
Quizzes 10%
Unit Test 60%
Participation 10%

Homework for the week will be assigned almost every day and will be checked at the beginning of
class each following day. Students will receive full credit for the homework as long as they do the
homework and show their work. Each homework assignment is worth 5 points, if a student submits
the homework late, they will receive half credit, you can find a more detailed information about late
assignments in the Make-up/Late Policy section below.
Unit Tests are worth a big chunk of the grade, but students are able to retake the tests to get a
better grade. If a student is unhappy with their test grade; they are able to come to tutoring to review
the material on the test, and retake the test, before or after school. The student will be able to keep
their highest score. For some tests, students will be allowed to use notes and some test will be
group test. Major projects will also count towards students’ test grade.
Participation will be based on students’ participation in class discussions, partner discussions, and
math journal entries.

Grading Scale: The following is the grading scale; students are able to
receive +/- letter grades.

As stated in the student handbook, Cheating and/or copying another students work is not
acceptable and goes against the school’s rules. Students who are caught cheating or copying
another student’s work will receive “no credit” for the assignment and it can result in possible
disciplinary action. Plagiarism is also not tolerated and there will be consequences.

Routines and
Procedures
Attendance/Tardy Policies
Attendance Policy: The school’s attendance policy can be found in the student handbook.
Attendance is very important for a students’ learning. If a student misses’ school, they need to make
up their classwork. They are responsible for asking for missing assignments and checking the
missing assignments corner.

Tardy Policy:
The school’s tardy policy can be found in the student handbook. As stated in the handbook
unexcused tardies may result in detentions and other disciplinary actions. A tardy is considered
excused if it is for a medical reason and there is a doctor’s note available. A student will be marked
tardy if he/she is not in their seat when the bell rings.

Routines for Collecting and Returning Work

Homework will be checked every day (unless otherwise told) at the beginning of class. Certain
assignments, such as projects, tests or worksheets, will be turned into the basket with the period
number. I will let students know when they need to submit an assignment into the tray. Students will
receive graded test within two days after taking it. However, the test will be filed in the students’
folder along with other class assignments. Students will be able to see their grades online as well
through Aeries, as they are submitted. Homework will be given back to students
the next day.

Make Up/Late Work Policy

If a student is going to be absent, there is a designated tray for missing work.
Students who are absent will be allowed to make-up their homework and turn in
the next day. If a student is absent the day of a test; the student will be allowed
to make up the test either before school, during lunch or after school.
If a student is not absent and forgets or does not do their homework; they are
allowed to turn in their homework assignments, before the end of the semester. Late work can be
turned in at all times. Students will sometimes have opportunities to work on their homework at the
end of class and therefore should have some if not most of it done before going home.

Routines for Starting/Ending Class

Starting: I will greet the students at the door and explain to them what they need to take out, once
they come in. I will give students a high five or handshake when they come in. Once students come
into the classroom, they will take out their homework, and the material needed for the day and get
started either on their warm-up, or be ready for a class discussion, test, or lesson.
Ending: Students will sometimes do an exit slip or write in a journal the last few minutes of class. I
will have students pack up their belongings and dismiss them once the bell rings. If students did an
exit ticket, I will collect it as they leave the class.
