Enhanced Image Vectorization Algorithm

It is common for artists to sketch their art and then convert them into digital art by means of different
software. The most common software among these are Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Many artists,
especially designers and poster artists prefer their work transferred to digital media in form of vector art.
For vectorising an image, artists often have to scan their images and then hand-trace along the stroke of
the art using software such as Adobe Illustrator. This consumes a lot of time is a tedious task itself.
There’s an option for automatic tracing, which on the other hand is extremely inaccurate. MIT researchers
claim to have developed an advanced automated vectorization algorithm that traces these images with
great accuracy. They call their mathematical technique as “frame fields”, which guides paths along
multiple complicated trace zones and intersections with substantially more precision. A main feature of
this technique is to reduce the misalignment between original and vectorized image at junction between
two curves.
