Lesson Plan (Gagne’s Learning Theory)

Time : 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Topic : Ourselves – Our Needs
Learning Objectives : Pupils should learn that they need food, air and water
to stay alive.
Learning Outcomes : Pupils state that they need to eat and drink to stay
alive.
Pre-requisite knowledge : Pupils already learned about basic needs of living
things.
Scientific skills/thinking skills : Observing, predicting, and experimenting.
Scientific attitudes and values : Realising that science is a means to understand nature.
Teaching and learning resources : Text book, activity book, My-CD.
Teaching steps :

1. Gaining attention
Teacher asks pupils to imagine that they are left somewhere without food and water.
Teacher asks pupils some questions about what they think will happen. Teacher discusses
the situation with them.

2. Informing learner of objective


Teacher tells pupils they will learned about what they need to stay alive.

3. Stimulate recall of prior knowledge


Teacher asks pupils to recall the basic need of living things they learned before.

4. Present the material


Teacher states that they need to eat and drink to stay alive. Teacher shows some samples
of foods and drinks

5. Provide guidance for learning


Teacher open My-CD and shows pupils about a games on raising a fish, teacher plays the
games by providing the fish with food, water and air. This will make he fish stay alive and
make the game success. Then, teacher shows pupils by not providing the fish with food,
water and air. This will make the fish die and failed the game. This activity will lets the
pupils understand the important of food, water and air to living things.

6. Elicit performance (practice)


Teacher lets pupils do an activity about raising a fish. Teacher provides 2 aquariums and 2
fish to the class. Pupils do an activity by providing different circumstances to the 2
aquariums. Aquarium A will use an air-pump to give the fish air, and will be provided with
food. Aquarium B will not have air-pump and food. Water will be provided to the 2
aquarium. The result will be observe during the next science period.

7. Provide feedback.
Teacher asks pupils questions about what they had learned and what they understand from
this lesson. Pupils try to answer and teacher will correct their mistake if necessary. Teacher
also give comments about today lesson.

8. Assess performance.
Teacher gives pupils an work sheet with exercises about basic needs of animals.

9. Enhance retention and transfer to the job.


Teacher tells the pupils about similar situations and what will happen. Teacher also ask
pupils to review the lesson.
