1. Scope
The purpose of this document is to establish a standard procedure for all the activities
encountered in the Installation/loading/Inspection of the MMF vessel prior to Commissioning.

3. List Of Activities
Following are the list of Activities included in the Inspection & Installation of the MMF
Vessel.

4. Procedure
Confined space permit to work must be obtained prior to start the job and MSRA should be
communicated to the crew before entering into MMF.
To begin with access in to the MMF vessel, proper scaffolding erected outside the Vessel to
reach the bottom opening and permanent ladder fixed with MMF will be used to reach top of
MMF Opening.
There are total of 3 opening for MMF, one in the Top, one in the Bottom and one in the Side.
Top Manhole shall be used for entering in to the MMF Vessel. Bottom Manhole shall be kept
open for proper ventilation.
An Exhaust fan of 220V operating capacity shall be placed in way of the side Manhole throughout
the whole activity inside the Vessel.
Added to that, it shall be ensured that necessary lighting arrangements of (24Watts) shall be kept
in place.
Proper internal Ladder arrangements shall be made in order to access from the Top of MMF in to the
Vessel and it shall be inspected by the competent scaffolding inspector prior to enter in.
Once upon the above said steps been carried out, all the three man hole cover shall be opened by
suitable hand Tool (Torque Wrench).
Prior to enter in to the Vessel, Trained and certified Gas Tester shall ensure that there is no toxic gas
present inside the vessel and proper Oxygen level for breathing which shall be between (19.5 % to
23.5%). Once all the requirements for the Confined space has been met with, individuals shall be allowed
to enter in to Vessel after signing the Confined Space Entrant Register.
Proper ventilation shall be ensured inside the vessel all the times until the Man Hole Covers are
closed.
It is necessary that before commencing with any activity inside the vessel, a detailed visual inspection of
back wash channel & internal rubber lining shall be performed in order to verify that there is no any
mechanical damage or deformation / Loosening of the Fasteners observed on them.
Upon this visual inspection, next stage activity as mentioned in the section 3 of this document shall be
carried out. Following this, installation of Internal Piping shall be inspected for the proper orientation &
Alignment.

Following the inspection as stated above, Filter nozzle shall be installed in to the nozzle floor. Proper tightening of the
Nozzle Filters shall be done with necessary hand tools such as Torque Wrench. Access from bottom Man Hole will be
required to carry out this activity.
Following to the Installation of the Filter Nozzle, Flushing & Internal Cleaning of the Vessel shall be done in order to
proceed with the POV Activities.

Once the vessel is properly cleaned and flushed out, media loading shall begin with in the following
sequence.
1. Lift the sand and pumice media lifting bag one by one by using the sand bag lifting hooks (all
four) position it to the convey channel and cut the bottom opening provided in the lifting bag and
release the sand .
2. Following the sand loading, pumice loading will be carried out to a range of 750 mm from the top
of the sand level.
3. Scaffolding shall use as access for two labor for cutting the bottom part of sand bag.
4. After completion of sand filling in to the MMF vessel two labors will enter into the MMF vessel
from the bottom manhole through the existing fixed caged ladder and level the sand and the
pumice inside the vessel by hand shovel as per the drawing .
During filling of the vessel with the sea water, it will be ensured that the bottom and side manhole shall be
closed with all necessary isolation of the drain vent & electrical items. No one is permitted to enter in to
the Vessel during and after this stage.
Upon the stage activities mentioned from 4.1 to 4.8 is completed, the vessel will be led by the POV team
for the remaining activities such as Media cleaning, Media level testing, Testing of the chemical
saturation.
During this all three Manholes (Top, Bottom and Side) shall be completely kept closed and tightened
properly.

5. HSE Requirements
a. Safety
The Contractor shall ensure that the job is executed safely in accordance with work permits
Procedure. In case of work at existing area, permits shall be obtained prior to starting any activity.
Contractor shall ensure that it has the necessary qualified personnel to obtain the required permit.
The work permit receiver shall be in full knowledge of the work execution mechanism of the
related activity, and hence obtain the proper permit.
b. Environment
The Contractor shall pay due regard to the environment by preserving air, water, soil, animal, and
plant life, etc. The waste such as rubbish, trash and debris shall be removed from the Work area
daily, transported to and treated properly at the Contractor’s site. The restoration of construction
site shall be performed.
