Solomon Seeks Wisdom

King Solomon, the son of David, was now in

complete control of his kingdom, because the
LORD God had blessed him and made him a
powerful ruler.

Solomon loved the LORD and followed his

father David's instructions; “Get wisdom and
understanding!” Solomon also offered
sacrifices and burned incense at the shrines.
The most important shrine was in Gibeon, and
Solomon had offered more than a thousand
sacrifices on that altar, pleasing to the LORD.

One night while Solomon was in Gibeon, the

LORD God appeared to him in a dream and
said, "Solomon, ask for anything you want, and
I will give it to you."

Solomon answered: My father David, your

servant, and fulfilled all of your commands.
You were always loyal to him, and you gave
him a son who is now king. LORD God, I'm
your servant, and you've made me king in my
father's place. But I'm very young and know so
little about being a leader. And now I must
rule your chosen people, even though there are
too many of them to count.

4
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

Please make me wise and teach me the

difference between right and wrong. Then I
will know how to rule your people. If you
don't, there is no way I could rule this great
nation of yours.

God said: “Solomon, I'm pleased that you

asked for this. You could have asked to live a
long time or to be rich. Or you could have
asked for the lives of your enemies. Instead,
you asked for wisdom to make right decisions.
So I'll make you wiser than anyone who has
ever lived or ever will live.

I'll also give you what you didn't ask for. You
will be wealthy and respected as long as you
live, and you'll be greater than any other king.
If you obey me and follow my commands, as
your father David did, I will bless you with
wellness and long life.”

Solomon woke up and realized that God had

spoken to him in the dream. He went back to
Jerusalem, "The City of David." There he
offered sacrifices to pleasing to the Lord
(1 Kings 3:1-15 & 2 Chronicles 1:1-13).

5
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

Solomon's Wisdom

Solomon was brilliant. God had blessed him

with insight and understanding. He was wiser
than anyone else in the world, including the
wisest people of the east and of Egypt.
Solomon wisdom was renown around the
known world. Solomon wrote three thousand
wise sayings and composed more than one
thousand songs. He could talk about all kinds
of plants, from large trees to small bushes, and
he taught about animals, birds, reptiles, and
fish. Rulers and world’s wealthiest people
would travel from near and far to listen to the
teaching of Solomon (1 Kings 11:29-34).

Solomon's Wealth

Solomon received about twenty-five tons of

gold (approximately $700 million) a year. The
merchants and traders, as well as the kings of
Arabia and kings from Israel, also gave him
gold (2 Chronicles 9:13-14)

Solomon made two hundred gold shields

and used about seven and a half pounds of
gold for each one. He also made three hundred

6
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

smaller gold shields, using almost four pounds

for each one, and he put the shields in his
palace in Forest of Lebanon (2 Chronicles 9:15-
16).

His throne was made of ivory and covered

with pure gold. The back of the throne was
rounded at the top, and it had armrests on each
side. There was a statue of a lion on both sides
of the throne, and there was a statue of a lion at
both ends of each of the six steps leading up to
the throne. No other throne in the world was
like Solomon's. Since silver was almost
worthless in those days; everything was made
of gold, even the cups and dishes used in the
House of the Forest of Lebanon were of pure
gold Solomon had a fleet of trading ships.
Every three years he sent them out with
Hiram's ships to bring back gold, silver, and
ivory, as well as monkeys and peacocks
(2 Chronicles 9:17-21).

He was the richest and wisest king in the

world. People from every nation wanted to
hear the wisdom God had given him. Year
after year people came and brought gifts of
silver and gold, as well as clothes, weapons,
spices, horses, or mules (2 Chronicles 9:22-24).

Solomon had one thousand four hundred

chariots and twelve thousand horses that he

7
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

kept in Jerusalem and other towns. While he

was king, there was silver everywhere in
Jerusalem, and cedar was as common as
ordinary sycamore trees in the foothills.
Solomon's merchants bought his horses and
chariots as well, paying about fifteen pounds
of silver for a chariot and almost four pounds
of silver for a horse. They also sold horses and
chariots to the Hittite and Syrian rulers (2
Chronicles 9:25-28).

Solomon Dies

However, in spite of the great advantages of

his heritage from David, wisdom from God,
and the prosperity and security that resulted,
late in life Solomon turned from following God
and lived a life full of bad behavior. His wives
turned away his heart after other gods; and his
heart was not perfect with Lord his God, as the
heart of David his father. As a result, the glory
days of Israel were short-lived.

Then the Lord took away His blessing from

Solomon, and riots and rebellions began
against him among the Hebrew people.
Solomon understood that this was God’s
punishment for his sins and began to repent.
But he did not fully surrender his heart to the

8
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

Lord his God as his father David had done.

Therefore, although the Lord forgave him and
preserved his kingdom during his life, still He
announced through a prophet that after the
death of Solomon the Israelite kingdom would
be split in two, and Solomon’s son would
inherit the smaller part.

Everything else Solomon did while he was

king is written in the books about him and his
wisdom. After he had ruled forty years from
Jerusalem, he died and was buried there in the
city of his father David. His son Rehoboam
then became king (2 Chronicles 9:29-31).

DAY ONE

Proverbs 1

The Purpose of the Book

These are the wise sayings of Solomon (the

wisest man who ever lived), son of David, King of
Israel: They show you how to understand
wisdom and wise teaching, to find the words
of understanding. They help you learn about
the ways of wisdom, wellness and wealth.
They give wisdom to the child-like, and much
learning and wisdom to those who are young
at heart. An enlighten man will hear and grow
in knowledge. A man of understanding will
become able to understand a saying and a
proverb, the words of the wise and what they
mean (Proverbs 1:1-6).

The Beginning of Wisdom

The admiration (fear) of the Lord is the

beginning of wisdom. Fools hate wisdom and
teaching (Proverbs 1:7).

10
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

Instruction in Wisdom

Listen and obey your parent's teaching, my

child, and do not turn away from them, for
they will be a crown of glory to your head and
a chain of beauty around your neck (Proverbs
1:8-9).

My child, if an immoral person entices you to

go down a dishonest path follow them not. If
they say, "Come with us. Let us go out and
harm someone. Let us set a trap for those who
are innocent. Let us swallow them alive like
death, as those who go down to the grave. We
will find all kinds of things of great worth. We
will fill our houses with the stolen riches. Join
us. We will all have one money bag." My
child, do not follow after them. Keep your feet
from their path, for they run after trouble, and
they are quick to destroy a man's life. It is futile to
spread a net while a bird is watching. They set
traps for their own lives and wait to die. Such
are the ways of all who seek to acquire wealth
by hurting others. Their desire for stolen riches
will destroy them (Proverbs 1:10-19).

11
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

Wisdom Personified

Wisdom calls out in the street. She lifts her

voice in the center of town. There she cries out
in the noisy streets. In the city square she
speaks: "You who are without understanding
how long will you love ignorance? How long
will those who laugh at others misfortune take
pleasure in others’ sorrow? How long will
fools hate learning? Listen to my strong words!
See, I will pour out my Spirit on you. I will
make my words known to you. I called but you
would not listen. I put out my hand and no one
gave it a thought. You did not listen when I
told you what you should do, and you would
not heed any of my strong words. So I will
laugh in your time of trouble. I will laugh
when you are afraid. Fear will come to you like
a storm. Hard times will come like a strong
wind. I will laugh when trouble and suffering
knock upon your door (Proverbs 1:20-27).

Then they will call on me, but I will not

answer. They will look for me, but they will
not find me, because they hated my
instruction, and did not choose to esteem the
Lord. They would not listen when I told them
what they should do. They laughed at my
counsel and scorned my rebuke. So they will

12
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

eat the fruit of their actions, and be filled with

their own misdeeds. For the simple will be
devastated by their failure to listen. The trust
they place in themselves will destroy them. But
he who listens to me will live free from danger,
and he will rest easy from the fear of what is
bad" (Proverbs 1:28-33).

13
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY TWO

Proverbs 2

The Fruits of Wisdom

My child, follow my teachings and treasure

my instructions. Keep in tune with wisdom
and understand what it means to exercise
common sense. Cry out loud for common
sense. Search for wisdom as you would search
for silver or hidden treasure. Then you will
understand what it means to reverence and to
know the LORD God. All wisdom comes from
the LORD, and so does common sense and
understanding. God gives helpful advice to
everyone who obeys him and protects all of
those who live as they should. He watches
over all who live right, and He preserves
everyone who is faithful to His words
(Proverbs 2:1-8).

Then you will understand what is right and

good, and right from wrong and you will
know what you should do. For wisdom will
come into your heart. And much learning will
be pleasing to your soul. Right thinking will

14
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

keep you safe. Understanding will watch over

you (Proverbs 2:9-11).

You will be kept from the ungodly man, and

from the man who causes much trouble by
what he says. You will be kept from the man
who leaves the right way to walk in the ways
of darkness, from the one who is prosperous
doing wrong, and who finds joy in the way of
trouble. His ways are not straight and are not
good (Proverbs 2:12-15).

Wisdom & Sexual Purity

Wisdom will protect you from the seductive

woman with her skillful tongue, who has left
the husband of her youth and ignored the
wedding vows she made before God. The road
to her house leads down to the dark world of
the dead. Visit her, and you will never find the
road to life again (Proverbs 2:16-19).

Do what is right and live an honest life. If

you are honest and innocent, you will prosper
in the land; if you do wrong you will be
destroyed (Proverbs 2:16-19).

15
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY THREE

Proverbs 3

The Benefits of Wisdom

My child, do not forget my teaching. Let

your heart keep my words, for they will bring
you wisdom, wellness and wealth (Proverbs
3:1-2).

Forsake not love and truth; let them be chain

of gold around your neck, engrave them upon
your heart. Then you will have good success
and favor in the sight of God and man
(Proverbs 3:3-4).

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do

not trust in your own understanding; in all
your ways acknowledge him, and he will
direct your steps (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the

Lord and turn away from what is wrong. It
will be healing to your body and medicine to
your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth,
and with the first tenth of your income. Then

16
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

your houses will be filled with many good

things and over flowing with abundances
(Proverbs 3:7-10).

My child, listen when the Lord counsels you,

do not loose heart when He tells you what you
must do. The Lord disciplines everyone He
loves, as a father corrects the ones who bring
him joy (Proverbs 3:11-12).

The Value of Wisdom

Prosperous is the person who finds wisdom

and gets understanding. For it is better than
getting silver and fine gold. She is worth more
than priceless diamonds. Nothing you can
wish for compares with her. Long life
(wellness) is in her right hand. Riches (wealth)
and honor (wisdom) are in her left hand. Her
ways are pleasing, and all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to those who take hold of
her. Prosperous are all who embrace her
(Proverbs 3:13-18).

By wisdom the Lord laid the foundation of

the earth. By understanding He rolled out the
heavens. By what He knows, the seas were
divided and water falls from the sky (Proverbs
3:19-20).

17
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

My child, use common sense and sound

judgment! Always keep them in mind. They
will help you to live a long and prosperous life;
they will be chain of beauty around your neck.
Then you will be safe as you walk on your
way, and your foot will not slip. You will not
be afraid when you sleep. When you lie down,
your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of
sudden disaster or of the calamity that over
takes the ungodly. For the Lord will be your
trust. He will keep your foot from slipping
(Proverbs 3:21-26).

Do not withhold good from those who

deserve it, when it is in your power to give it.
Do not put off until tomorrow what you can do
today (Proverbs 3:27-28).

Do not conspire to harm your neighbor,

while he lives safely beside you. Do not accuse
a man for no reason, when he has done you no
harm (Proverbs 3:29-30).

Do not envy a violent man or follow his

example. The Lord hates an immoral man, but
He is close to those who live right (Proverbs
3:31-32).

The curse of the Lord is on the house of the

immoral, but He prospers the house of those
who live right (Proverbs 3:33).

18
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

God laughs at those who laugh at His truth

but gives loving kindness to those who are
humble. The wise inherit honor, but shame will
be the inheritance of the unwise (Proverbs 3:34-
35).

19
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY FOUR

Proverbs 4

Wisdom is Supreme

My child, hear the teaching of a parent.

Listen so you may obtain understanding. For I
give you good teaching. Do not turn away
from it. When I was a much loved and only
child of my mother and father, he taught me,
saying, "Keep my words close to your heart.
Keep my teachings and live. Get wisdom and
understanding. Do not forget or turn away
from the words of my mouth. Do not leave her
alone, and she will keep you safe. Love her,
and she will watch over you. Get wisdom! And
with all you have gotten, get understanding.
Honor her and she will honor you. She will
honor you if you hold her close to your heart.
She will put on your head a crown of loving-
favor and beauty" (Proverbs 4:1-9).

Hear, my child, and receive my sayings, and

the years of your life will be many. I have
taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led
you on the right paths. When you walk, your

20
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

steps will not be stopped. If you run, you will

not trip. Take hold of wisdom, do not let her
go. Watch over her, for she is your life. Do not
go on the path of the ungodly. Do not walk in
the way of immoral men. Stay away from it.
Do not pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on.
The immoral cannot sleep unless they’re doing
wrong. They are robbed of sleep unless they
make someone stumble. For they eat the bread
of waywardness, and drink the wine of bad
behavior. But the way of those who live right is
like the early morning light. It shines brighter
and brighter with each passing day. The way
of the immoral is like deep darkness; they do
not know what causes them to stumble
(Proverbs 4:10-19).

My child, listen to my words. Turn your ear

to my sayings. Do not let them depart from
your eyes. Keep them in the center of your
heart. For they are life to those who find them,
and healing to their whole body. Keep your
heart pure for out of it flow the issues of life.
Put false speaking away from you. Put away
perverse speech far from your mouth. Let your
eyes look straight ahead, and keep focused on
what is in front of you. Keep a watch on your
behavior; let all your ways be rightly ordered.
Do not turn to the right or to the left. Stay on
the right track (Proverbs 4:20-27).

21
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY FIVE

Proverbs 5

The Danger of Promiscuity

My child, listen to my wisdom. Turn your ear

to my words. So you may know what right
thinking is, and your lips may speak much
knowledge. For the lips of a strange woman
are as sweet as honey. Her talk is as smooth as
oil. But in the end she is as bitter tasting as
wormwood, and as sharp as a two edge sword.
Her feet go down to death. Her steps take hold
of hell. She does not think about the path of
life. Her path is unstable, and she does not
know it (Proverbs 5:1-6).

Now then, my child, listen to me. Do not turn

away from the words of my mouth. Keep far
away from her. Do not go near the door of her
house. If you do, you would give your strength
to another, and your years to those without
loving-kindness (Proverbs 5:7-9).

Strangers would be filled with your strength,

and the fruits of your work would go to a

22
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

strange house. You would cry inside yourself

when your end comes, when your flesh and
body are wasted away. You would say, "How I
have hated teaching! My heart hated strong
words! I have not listened to the voice of my
teachers. I have not turned my ear to those
who would teach me. Now my name is ruin
among the people" (Proverbs 5:10-14).

Drink water at your own home, my child be

faithful to your spouse. Why should you give
your affections to a stranger on the street? Let
your children be yours alone, and not a
stranger on the street. Be pleased and rejoice
with the spouse you have married. Be satisfied
with your spouse’s body and sweet embrace.
Why take pleasure in a stranger, or embrace
what can never be yours (Proverbs 5:15-20)?

For the ways of man are before the eyes of

Lord, and He watches all his paths. The
misdeeds of the immoral will entrap him. He
will be held with the chains of his own crimes.
He will die for lack of teaching, and will go the
wrong way because of the greatness of his
foolish decisions (Proverbs 5:21-23).

23
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY SIX

Proverbs 6

Dangers of Cosigning

My child, if you have become cosigner for a

friend, if you have struck your hands in pledge
for a stranger; you are trapped by the words of
your lips. You are ensnared with the words of
your mouth. Do this now, my child, and get
yourself out of debt, for you have become
collateral for your friend. Swallow your pride
and beg your friend to release you from the
contract of your words. Do it now. Do not rest
until you do. If possible flee for your life, save
yourself like a deer that escapes from a hunter
or a bird from the net (Proverbs 6:1-5).

Learn a lesson from the ant, you lazy person.

Observe their ways and be wise. They have no
leader, head or ruler, but they get their food
ready in the summer, and gather their food for
the winter. How long will you lie down, you
lazy person? When will you wake up? A little
sleep, a little rest, a little folding of the hands to
rest, and poverty will overtake you like a

24
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

burglar, and your need like a mugger

(Proverbs 6:6-11).

A worthless person goes around deceiving

others. They are always thinking up bad
devices and stirring up trouble. But they will
be struck by sudden disaster and left without a
hope or a prayer (Proverbs 6:12-15).

There are six things which the Lord hates,

yes, seven that are despised by Him: A proud
look, a lying tongue, and hands that kill
innocent people, a heart that entertains
immoral desires, feet that are swift in running
to mischief, a person who tells lies about
someone else, and one who causes contention
among acquaintance (Proverbs 6:16-19).

The Perils of Adultery

My child, obey the teaching of your parents.

Keep them close to your heart. Wear them
around your neck like a chain of gold. They
will lead you when you walk. They will watch
over you when you sleep, and they will talk
with you when you wake up. For the word is a
lamp. The teaching is a light, and strong words
that provides correction in the way of life
(Proverbs 6:20-23).

25
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

These words and this teaching will keep you

from the immoral person, from the smooth
tongue of the adulterous. Don't lust after her
beauty. Don't let her coyness seduce you. A
prostitute will bring you to poverty, and
sleeping with someone else’s spouse will cost
you your life. Can you walk on hot coals and
not be burned? So it is with the person who
sleeps with another person's spouse. He who
embraces her will not go unpunished
(Proverbs 6:24-29).

People may excuse a thief who steals because

he is hungry. But if he is caught, he will be
fined seven times as much as he stole, even if it
means selling everything in his house to pay it
back. But the man who commits adultery is a
complete ignoramus, for he destroys his own
life. Wounds and constant disgrace will be his
plight in life. His shame will never be erased.
For the woman's husband will be furious in his
jealousy, and he will have no mercy in his day
of vengeance. He will not take a bribe, and he
will not be prosperous no matter what you
offer him (Proverbs 6:30-35).

26
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

DAY SEVEN

Proverbs 7

The Dangers of the Seductive Woman

My child, pay close attention and don't forget

what I tell you to do. Obey my word and you will
live! Let my instructions be your greatest
treasure. Tie them around your fingers. Write
them upon your heart. Say to wisdom, "You
are my sister." Call understanding your best
friend. They will keep you from the strange
woman, from the stranger with her smooth
words (Proverbs 7:1-5).

I looked out through the window of my

house and I saw among the simple and among
the young people a young man without
wisdom and understanding. He passed
through the street near her corner and took the
path to her house, in the light of the evening,
after it was dark (Proverbs 7:6-9).

See, a woman comes to meet him. She is

dressed like a prostitute, and with a heart that
wants to deceive and entrap someone. She is
loud and has a strong self-will. Her feet do not

27
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

stay at home. She is now in the street, now in

the center of town where people gather. She
lies in wait at every corner. She embraces him
and kisses him. With a serious face she says to
him, "It was time for me to give gifts on the
altar in worship, and today I have paid what I
promised. So I have come out to meet you, to
look for you, and I have found you. I have
covered my bed with linen cloth from Egypt. I
have perfumed my bed with fine perfumes and
spices. Come, let us make love all night long;
let us delight ourselves with love. For my
husband is not at home. He has gone on a long
business trip. He has taken a suitcase full of
money with him, and he will come home at full
moon" And so, she tricked him with all of her
sweet talk and the flattery of her lips. Right
away he followed her like an ox on the way to
be slaughtered, or like a fool on the way to be
punished and killed with a knife. He was no
more than a bird rushing into a trap, without
knowing it would cost him his life (Proverbs
7:10-23).

My son, pay close attention to what I have

said. Do not let your hearts turn aside to her
ways; do not stray into her paths. Many are
those she has laid low, and numerous are her
victims. Her house is the way to grave, going
down to the chambers of death (Proverbs 7:24-
27).

28
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

DAY EIGHT

Proverbs 8

The Blessings of Wisdom

Does not wisdom call? Does not

understanding raise her voice? She takes her
stand on the top of the hill beside the way,
where the roads meet. Beside the gates in front
of the town, at the open doors, she cries out, "I
call to you, O people. My voice is to the
children of men. O childlike children, learn to
use wisdom. O fools, make your mind
understand. Listen, for I will teach you great
things. What is right will come from my lips.
For my mouth will speak the truth. My lips
hate evil. All the words of my mouth are right
and good. There is nothing in them that speaks
against the truth. They are all clear to him who
understands, and right to those who find much
learning. Take my teaching instead of silver.
Take much learning instead of fine gold. For
wisdom is better than jewels of great worth.
There is nothing in the world that compares to
the value gain from wisdom (Proverbs 8:1-11).

29
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

"I, wisdom, live with understanding, and I

find much learning and careful thinking. The
love of the Lord is to hate what is evil. I hate
pride, self-love, the way of evil, and lies. I have
teaching and wisdom. I have understanding
and power. I cause rulers to reign and rulers to
disperse justice. By me rulers rule and all the
great men execute judgment on the earth. I
love those who love me, and those who look
for me with much desire will find me. Riches
and honor are mine, lasting riches and being
right with God. My fruit is better than gold,
even pure gold. What I give is better than fine
silver. I walk in the way that is right with God,
in the center of the ways that are fair. I give
wealth to those who love me, and fill their
vault with treasures (Proverbs 8:12-21).

"The Lord made me at the beginning of His

work, before His first works long ago. I was set
apart long ago, from the beginning, before the
earth was. I was born when there were no seas,
when there were no pools full of water. I was
born before the mountains and hills were in
their places. It was before He had made the
earth or the fields, or the first dust of the
world. I was there when He made the heavens,
and when He drew a mark around the top of
the sea. I was there when He framed the skies
above, and when He put the wells of the
waters in their place. I was there when He

30
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

marked the boundary for the sea, so that the

waters would not go farther than what He
said. I was there when He marked out the
ground for the earth. I was beside Him as the
leading craftsman. I was His joy every day. I
rejoiced in His presence. I was prosperous in
the world, His earth, and found pleasure in the
children of men (Proverbs 8:22-31).

"So now, O children, listen to me, for

prosperous are they who keep my ways. Hear
my teaching and are wise. Do not turn away
from it. Prosperous is the one who listens to
me, watching every day at my gates, waiting
beside my doors. For whoever finds me finds
life, and gets favor from the Lord. But those
who miss me injure themselves; all who hate
me love death” (Proverbs 8:32-36).

31
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY NINE

Proverbs 9

An Invitation to Wisdom

Wisdom has built her house. She has secured

it with seven pillars. She has cooked her food,
and has mixed her wine, and she has set her
table. She has sent out the young women who
work for her. She calls from the highest places
of the city, "Whoever is easy to deceive let him

20:26).

The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord. It

faithful and true. He can stay in his place if he
does what is right and good (Proverbs 20:28).

The honor of young men is their strength.

And the honor of old men is their gray hair
(Proverbs 20:29).

83
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

Positive discipline shapes a child, and

correction purifies the heart (Proverbs 20:30).

84
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

DAY TWENTY ONE

Proverbs 21

The heart of the ruler is like rivers of water

in the hand of the Lord. He turns it where He
wishes (Proverbs 21:1).

Every man's way is right in his own eyes,

21:8).

It is better to live in a corner of a house than

in a mansion shared with an arguing woman
(Proverbs 21:9).

The soul of the ungodly has a desire for what

is bad. His neighbor finds no favor in his eyes

A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

He who watches over his mouth and his

tongue keeps his soul from troubles (Proverbs
21:23).

"Proud," "Self-important" and "One who

laughs at the truth" are the names of the man
who acts without respect and is proud
(Proverbs 21:24).

The desire of the lazy man will kill him,

because he refuses to work (Proverbs 21:25).

The lazy man is filled with desire all day

long, but the man who is right with God gives
his best effort (Proverbs 21:26).

The gift of the ungodly is a despised thing.

How much more when he gives it with the
wrong motives (Proverbs 21:27).

A person who tells a lie about someone else

will be destroyed, but the words of a man who
listens to truth will be established forever
(Proverbs 21:28).

confidence (Proverbs 21:29).

Favor is better than silver and gold (Proverbs

trouble and hides himself, but the foolhardy go
on, and are punished (Proverbs 22:2-3).

The reward for not having pride and having

the awe of the Lord is wisdom, wellness and
wealth (Proverbs 22:4).

Thorns and traps are in the way of the

ungodly. He who watches conduct will stay far
from them (Proverbs 22:5).

Bring up a child by teaching him the way he

should go, and when he is old he will not turn
away from it (Proverbs 22:6).

The rich rule over the poor, and the

(Proverbs 22:8).

gives his substance to the poor (Proverbs 22:9).

the man who is not faithful (Proverbs 22:12).

The lazy man says, "There is a lion outside! I

hole. He with whom the Lord is angry will fall
into it (Proverbs 22:14).

Foolishness is in the heart of a child, but

correction will send it far from him (Proverbs
22:15).

91
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

He who makes it hard for the poor by

getting more for himself, or who gives to the
rich, will become poor himself (Proverbs
22:16).

Sayings of the Wise

Turn your ear and hear the words of the

wise, and open your mind to what they teach.
My words will be pleasing if you keep them in
your heart, so they may be ready on your lips. I
have taught you today, even you, so that your
trust may be in the Lord. Have I not written to
you great things of wise teaching and much
learning to show you that the words of truth
are sure, so you may give a true answer to him
who sent you (Proverbs 22:17-21).

Do not rob the poor because he is poor, or

crush those who suffer at the gate. The Lord
will stand by the poor and help them, and take
the life of those who rob them (Proverbs 22:22-
23).

Do not have anything to do with a man

given to anger, or go with a man who has a
bad temper. Or you might learn his ways and
get yourself into trouble (Proverbs 22:24-25).

92
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

Do not be among those who make promises

and become cosigners for what others owe. If
you have nothing with which to pay, why
should you give your bed for another
(Proverbs 22:26-27)?

Do not remove the boundaries which your

fathers have put in place (Proverbs 22:28).

Do you see a man who is good at his work?

He will stand in front of great men. He will not
stand in front of men who are not important
(Proverbs 22:29).

93
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY TWENTY THREE

Proverbs 23

When you sit down to eat with a ruler, think

about what is in front of you. Put a knife to
your neck if you are a man who is given to
overeating. Do not desire his special foods, for
they are there to deceive you (Proverbs 23:1-3).

Do not labor to be rich. Stop trying to get

things for yourself. When you set your eyes
upon it, it is gone. For sure, riches make
themselves wings like an eagle that flies
toward the heavens (Proverbs 23:4-5).

Do not eat the bread of a man who thinks

only about himself. Do not have a desire for his
fine food. For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
He says to you, "Eat and drink!" But he doesn’t
seek your best interest. You will spit up the
food you have eaten, and waste your good
words (Proverbs 23:6-8).

Do not speak in the company of a fool, for he

will hate the wisdom of your words (Proverbs
23:9).

94
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

Do not take away the inheritance, or go

against those without a father. For the One
Who saves them is strong. He will stand by
them and fight their cause against you
(Proverbs 23:10-11).

Open your heart to teaching, and your ears to

words of knowledge (Proverbs 23:12).

Do not keep from punishing the child if he

needs it. If you discipline him, he will not die.
Discipline him promptly, and save his soul
from destruction (Proverbs 23:13-14).

My child, if your heart is wise, my own heart

will be glad also. My heart will be full of joy
when your lips speak what is right (Proverbs
23:15-16).

Do not let your heart be jealous of the

ungodly, but live in the love of the Lord
always. For sure there is a future and your
desire will be manifested (Proverbs 23:17-18).

Listen, my child, and be wise. Lead your

heart in the way. Do not be with those who
drink too much wine or over eat. For the man
who drinks too much or over eats will become
poor, and much sleep will cause a man to
become impoverished (Proverbs 23:19-21).

95
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

Listen to your father who gave you life, and

do not hate your mother when she is old
(Proverbs 23:22).

Buy truth, and do not sell it, get wisdom,

knowledge and understanding (Proverbs
23:23).

The father of one who is right with God will

have much joy. He who has a wise child will be
glad in him. Let your father and mother be
glad, and let her who gave birth to you be full
of joy (Proverbs 23:24-25).

Give me your heart, my child. Let your eyes

find joy in my ways. For a woman who sells
the use of her body is like a deep hole. An
ungodly woman is a narrow well. She lies in
wait as a robber, and causes many men to
become unfaithful (Proverbs 23:26-28).

Who has trouble? Who has sorrow? Who is

fighting? Who is complaining? Who is hurt
without a reason? Who has eyes that have
become red? Those who drink spend a lot of
time drinking wine. Those who go to taste
mixed wine. Do not look at wine when it is red,
when it shines in the cup, when it is smooth in
going down. In the end it bites like a snake. It
stings like the bite of a snake with poison. Your
eyes will see strange things. Your mind will

96
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

say the wrong things. And you will be like one

who lies down in the center of the sea, or like
one who lies above a ship's sail. "They hit me,
but I was not hurt. They beat me, but I did not
know it. When will I wake up? I will look for
another drink" (Proverbs 23:29-35).

97
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY TWENTY FOUR

Proverbs 24

Do not be jealous of ungodly men. Do not

want to be with them. For their hearts make
plans to hurt others and their lips talk about
trouble (Proverbs 24:1-2).

A house is built by wisdom. It is made

strong by understanding, and by much
learning the rooms are filled with all riches that
are pleasing and of great worth (Proverbs 24:3-
4).

A wise man is strong. A man of much

learning adds to his strength. For by wise
counsel you will make war, and the fight is
won when there are many wise men to help
you make the plans (Proverbs 24:5-6).

Wisdom is too hard for a fool to understand.

He does not open his mouth in the gate. He
who plans to do wrong will be called a trouble
maker. Planning to do a stupid things is
trouble, and the man who laughs at the truth is
hated by the wise (Proverbs 24:7-9).

98
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

If you are weak in the day of trouble, your

strength is small (Proverbs 24:10).

Save those who are being taken away to

death. Keep them from being killed. If you say,
"See, we did not know this," does not He who
knows what is in hearts see it? Does not He
who keeps watch over your soul know it? And
will He not pay each man for his work
(Proverbs 24:11-12)?

My child, eat honey, for it is good. Yes, the

honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
Know that wisdom is like this to your soul. If
you find it, there will be a future, and your
hope will not be cut off (Proverbs 24:13-14).

O ungodly man, do not lie in wait against

the house of the man who is right with God.
Do not destroy his resting place. For a man
who is right with God falls seven times, and
rises again, but the ungodly fall in time of
trouble (Proverbs 24:15-16).

Do not rejoice when the one who hates you

falls. Do not let your heart be glad when he
slips. The Lord will see it and will not be
pleased and He will turn away His anger from
him (Proverbs 24:17-18).

99
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

Do not worry because of those who do

wrong, and do not be jealous of the ungodly.
For there will be no future for the ungodly
man. The lamp of the ungodly will be put out
(Proverbs 24:19-20).

My child, honor the Lord and the ruler.

Have nothing to do with those who are given
to change. For their trouble will rise up all at
once, and who knows greatness of their
destruction (Proverbs 24:21-22)?

These also are sayings of the wise. It is not

good to show favor in judging. He who says to
the ungodly, "You are right and good," will be
spoken against by people and hated by
nations. But those who correct the ungodly will
find joy and good will come upon them. To
give the right answer is like a kiss on the lips
(Proverbs 24:23-26).

Get your work done outside, make your

fields ready. Then after that, build your house
(Proverbs 24:27).

Do not speak against your neighbor without

a reason, and do not lie with your lips. Do not
say, "I will do to him as he has done to me. I
will pay him back for what he has done to me"
(Proverbs 24:28-29).

100
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

I passed by the field of the lazy man, by the

grape-vines of the man without understanding.
And saw it was all grown over with thorns.
The ground was covered with weeds, and its
stone wall was broken down. When I saw it, I
thought about it. I looked and received
understanding. "A little sleep, a little rest, a
little folding of the hands to rest," and your
poverty will come as a thief, and your need
like a man ready to harm you (Proverbs 24:30-
34).

101
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY TWENTY FIVE

Proverbs 25

These also are wise sayings of Solomon,

which were written down by the men of
Hezekiah, ruler of Judah (Proverbs 25:1).

It is the greatness of God to keep things

hidden, but it is the greatness of rulers to find
things out (Proverbs 25:2).

As the heavens are high and the earth is

deep, so the heart of rulers is more than can be
known (Proverbs 25:3).

Take away the impurities from the silver and

a silver cup shall be made for the silversmith.
Take the ungodly away from the ruler and his
throne will stand on what is right and good
(Proverbs 25:4).

Do not honor yourself in front of the ruler,

and do not stand in the place of great men. For
it is better to be told, "Come up here," than to
be put down in front of the ruler whom your
eyes have seen (Proverbs 25:6-7).

102
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

Do be quick to argue. Or what will you do in

the end, when your neighbor puts you to
shame? Argue your side of the problem with
your neighbor, but do not tell the secret of
another. Or he who hears you may put you to
shame, and bad things will be said about you
forever (Proverbs 25:8-10).

A word spoken at the right time is like jewel

of gold set in silver. A wise man speaking
strong words to a listening ear is like an
earring of gold for the ear and a beautiful gift
made of fine gold (Proverbs 25:11-12).

A faithful man who carries news is like the

ice cold glass of water in the summer time to
those who send him, for he makes the spirit of
his owners feel renewed (Proverbs 25:13).

A man who brags too much of a gift he

never gives is like clouds and wind without
rain (Proverbs 25:14).

When one is slow to anger, a ruler may be

won over. A gentle tongue will break a bone
(Proverbs 25:15).

Have you found honey? Eat only what you

need or you may eat too much and spit it up
(Proverbs 25:16).

103
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

Do not spend too much time in your

neighbor's house, or he may become tired of
you and despises you (Proverbs 25:17).

A man who tells a lie against his neighbor is

like a heavy stick or a sword or a sharp arrow
(Proverbs 25:18).

In time of trouble, trusting in a man who is

not faithful is like a bad tooth or a foot out of
joint (Proverbs 25:19).

He who sings songs to a heavy heart is like

one who steals another’s coat on a cold day, or
one who pours alcohol on an open sore
(Proverbs 25:20).

If the one who hates you is hungry, feed

him. If he is thirsty, give him water. If you do
that, he will become ashamed of his actions,
and the Lord will bless you (Proverbs 25:21-
22).

The north wind brings rain, and a hurtful

tongue brings an angry look (Proverbs 25:23).

It is better to live in a corner of the roof than

to share a mansion with an arguing woman
(Proverbs 25:24).

104
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

Good news from a land far away is like cold

water to a thirsty soul (Proverbs 25:25).

A man who does what is right but gets in the

way of the ungodly, is like a well of mud or
poisoned water (Proverbs 25:26).

It is not good to eat much honey, and to seek

out self glory is not good (Proverbs 25:27).

A man who cannot rule his own emotions is

like a city whose walls are broken down
(Proverbs 25:28).

105
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY TWENTY SIX

Proverbs 26

Like snow in summer and like rain during

harvest time, so honor is not fitting for a fool
(Proverbs 26:1).

Like a sparrow in its traveling, like a

swallow in its flying, so bad words said against
someone without cause do not happen
(Proverbs 26:2).

A whip is for the horse, leather ropes are for

the donkey, and a stick is for the back of fools
(Proverbs 26:3).

Do not respond to a fool according to his

foolishness, or you will be believed to be like
him. Give a foolish man a foolish answer, or
he will believe that he is wise (Proverbs 26:4-5).

He who sends a letter by the hand of a fool

cuts off his own feet and brings trouble upon
himself (Proverbs 26:6).

106
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

A wise saying in the mouth of fools is like

the legs of a disabled man who cannot walk
(Proverbs 26:7).

He who gives honor to a fool is like one who

throws a stone on a rock pile (Proverbs 26:8).

A wise saying in the mouth of fools is like a

thorn that goes into the hand of a man who
drinks too much (Proverbs 26:9).

He who hires a fool is like a man who uses a

spear to injure others (Proverbs 26:10).

A fool who repeats his actions is like a dog

that turns back to lick up what he has thrown
up (Proverbs 26:11).

Do you see a man who is wise in his own

eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for
him (Proverbs 26:12).

The lazy man says, "There is danger on the

way! There is trouble in the streets!" As a door
turns, so does the lazy man on his bed. The
lazy man buries his hand in the dish. It makes
him tired to bring his hand to his mouth and
eat. The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes than
seven geniuses who can give a wise answer
(Proverbs 26:13-16).

107
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

He who passes by and takes part in someone

else's fight is like one who takes a dog by the
ears (Proverbs 26:17).

Like an insane man who discharges a gun

into a crowd of people, so is the man who
deceives his neighbor with a lie, and says, "I
was only joking" (Proverbs 26:18-19).

When there is no wood, the fire goes out.

Where there is no one gossiping, arguing stops.
An arguing man makes matters worse. He is
like coals to burning wood and gasoline to a
fire. The words of one who tells secret things
about people are like good-tasting bites of
food. They go down deep inside the body
(Proverbs 26:20-22).

Burning lips and an ungodly heart are like a

pot covered with silver waste (Proverbs 26:23).

He who hates covers it up with his words,

but stores up false ways in his heart. When he
speaks with kindness, do not believe him, for
there are seven things that are despised in his
heart. Even if his hate is covered with false
ways, his deception will be uncovered in front
of an audience (Proverbs 26:24-26).

108
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

He who digs a deep hole will fall into it, and

he who rolls a stone will have it return upon
him (Proverbs 26:27).

A lying tongue hates those it harms, and a

mouth that speaks false words destroys
(Proverbs 26:28).

109
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY TWENTY SEVEN

Proverbs 27

Do not talk much about tomorrow, for you

do not know what a day will bring (Proverbs
27:1).

Let another man praise you, and not your

own mouth. Let a stranger, and not your own
lips (Proverbs 27:2).

A stone is heavy, and sand is heavy, but a

man angered by a fool is heavier than them
both (Proverbs 27:3).

Anger causes trouble and a bad temper is like a

flood, but who can stand when there is jealousy
(Proverbs 27:4)?

Sharp words spoken in the open are better

than love in secret (Proverbs 27:5).

The pains given by a friend are faithful, but

the kisses of one who hates you are false
(Proverbs 27:6).

110
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

He who is full hates honey, but even bitter

things are sweet to a hungry man (Proverbs
27:7).

Like a bird that goes away from her nest, so

is a man who goes away from his home
(Proverbs 27:8).

Oil and perfume make the heart glad, so are a

man's words sweet to his friend (Proverbs
27:9).

Do not leave your friend or your father's

friend in times of need, and do not go to your
brother's house in the day of your trouble. A
neighbor who is near is better than a brother
who is far away (Proverbs 27:10).

Be wise, my child, and make my heart glad,

so I may answer him who attempts to puts me
to shame (Proverbs 27:11).

An enlighten man sees trouble and hides,

but the fool goes on and are destroyed
(Proverbs 27:12).

Take the man's coat that has cosigned for

what a stranger owes. And hold him to his
promise that has made a vow for an ungodly
woman (Proverbs 27:13).

111
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

He who praises his neighbor with a loud

voice early in the morning will be thought of as
a curse (Proverbs 27:14).

An arguing woman is like water falling drop

by drop on a rainy day. To try to stop her is
like trying to stop the wind, or like trying to
catch oil in his right hand (Proverbs 27:15-16).

Iron is made sharp with iron, and one man is

made sharp by a friend (Proverbs 27:17).

He who cares for the fig tree will eat its fruit,
and he who cares for the one he works for will
be honored (Proverbs 27:18).

As water acts as a mirror to a face, so the

heart of man acts as a mirror to a man
(Proverbs 27:19).

The place of the dead is never filled, and the

eyes of man are never filled (Proverbs 27:20).

The melting-pot is for silver and the fire for

gold, and a man are tested by the praise he
receives (Proverbs 27:21).

Even if you crush a fool to dust, he will not

depart from his foolish ways (Proverbs 27:22).

112
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

Know well how your flocks are doing, and

keep in mind the condition of your cattle.
Riches do not last forever, and wealth does not
pass from generation to generation. When the
grass is gone, the new plants are seen, and the
plants of the mountains are gathered up. The
lambs will be for your clothes, and the goats
will bring the price of a field There will be
enough goats' milk for your food, for the food
of your entire house, and food for your young
maid (Proverbs 27:23-27).

113
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY TWENTY EIGHT

Proverbs 28

The ungodly run away when no one is

chasing them, but those who are right with
God have as much strength of heart as a lion
(Proverbs 28:1).

When a nation sins, it has many rulers, but

with a man of understanding and much
learning, it will last a long time (Proverbs 28:2).

A poor man who makes it hard for the poor

is like a heavy rain which leaves no food
(Proverbs 28:3).

Those who turn away from the law praise the

ungodly, but those who keep the law fight
against them (Proverbs 28:4).

Ungodly men do not understand what is

right and fair, but those who look to the Lord
understand all things (Proverbs 28:5).

A poor man who walks in his integrity is

better than a rich man who is ungodly in his
ways (Proverbs 28:6).

114
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

He who keeps the law is a wise child, but a

friend of men who eat too much puts his father
to shame (Proverbs 28:7).

He who becomes wealthy through extortion

gathers it for him who is kind to the poor
(Proverbs 28:8).

He who turns his ear away from listening to

the law, even his prayer is a hated thing
(Proverbs 28:9).

He who leads good people into a ungodly

way will fall into his own deep hole, but good
will come to those without blame (Proverbs
28:10).

The rich man is wise in his own eyes, but the

poor man who has understanding sees through
him (Proverbs 28:11).

When those who are right with God win,

there is great honor, but when the ungodly
rule, men hide themselves (Proverbs 28:12).

It will not go well for the man who hides his

bad behavior, but he who tells his bad
behavior and turns from them will receive
mercy (Proverbs 28:13).

115
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

Prosperous is the man who always fears the

Lord, but he who makes his heart hard will fall
into trouble (Proverbs 28:14).

An ungodly ruler over poor people is like a

lion’s roar or an angry bear (Proverbs 28:15).

A ruler who steals from the people who have

little is without understanding. But he who
despises that which belongs to someone else
will have long life (Proverbs 28:16).

A man who is loaded down with the guilt of

murder will run in fear until death. Let no one
help him. He who walks without blame will be
kept safe, but he who is ungodly will fall all at
once (Proverbs 28:17-18).

He who works his land will have more than

enough food, but he who wastes time will
become impoverished. A faithful man will
have many good things, but he who hurries to
be rich will be punished for it (Proverbs 28:19-
20).

To show favor is not good, because a man

will sin for a piece of bread (Proverbs 28:21).

A man with ungodly desires rushes to be

rich. He does not know that he will be in need
(Proverbs 28:22).

116
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

He who speaks strong words to a man will

later find more favor than he who gives
insincere lips service (Proverbs 28:23).

He who robs his father or his mother, and

says, "It is not wrong," is the friend of a man
who destroys (Proverbs 28:24).

An arrogant man starts fights, but all will go

well for the man who trusts in the Lord
(Proverbs 28:25).

He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but

he who walks in wisdom will be kept safe
(Proverbs 28:26).

He who gives to the poor will never lack, but

many bad things will happen to the man who
shuts his eyes to the poor (Proverbs 28:27).

When the ungodly rule, men hide

themselves, but when they die, those who do
what is right become many (Proverbs 28:28).

117
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY TWENTY NINE

Proverbs 29

A man who does not listen after many strong

words are spoken to him will be destroyed all
at once and without help (Proverbs 29:1).

When those who are right with God rule, the

people are glad, but when an ungodly man
rules, the people have sorrow (Proverbs 29:2).

A man who loves wisdom makes his father

glad, but he who goes with prostitutes wastes
his inheritance (Proverbs 29:3).

The ruler makes the land strong by doing

what is right and fair, but the one who takes
bribes destroys it (Proverbs 29:4).

A man who flatters his neighbor with sweet-

sounding words that are not true spreads a net
for his own feet (Proverbs 29:5).

An ungodly man is trapped by his actions,

but a man who is right with God sings for joy
(Proverbs 29:6).

118
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

The man who is right with God cares about

the rights of poor people, but the ungodly man
does not understand such things (Proverbs
29:7).

Men who speak against others set a city on

fire, but enlighten men turn away anger
(Proverbs 29:8).

When a wise man argues with a foolish man,

only the fool gets angry or laughs, and there is
no peace and quiet (Proverbs 29:9).

The violent hate those who are right with

God, but a good man cares for his life
(Proverbs 29:10).

A fool always loses his temper, but a wise

man holds his peace (Proverbs 29:11).

If a ruler listens to lies; all who work for him

will become ungodly (Proverbs 29:12).

The Lord gives light to the eyes of both the

poor man and the man who makes it hard for
others (Proverbs 29:13).

If the ruler is fair as he judges the poor, his

throne will stand forever (Proverbs 29:14).

119
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

Discipline and strong words give wisdom,

but a child who gets his own way brings
shame to his mother (Proverbs 29:15).

When the ungodly are many, sins become

many, but those who are right with God will
see their fall (Proverbs 29:16).

Punish your child when he does wrong and

he will give you comfort. Yes, he will bring joy
to your soul (Proverbs 29:17).

Where there is no vision, the people perish:

but he that keeps the Word prospers (Proverbs
29:18).

A servant will not be trained by words; for

though the sense of the words is clear to him,
he will not pay attention (Proverbs 29:19).

Do you see a man who is quick with his

words? There is more hope for a fool than for
him (Proverbs 29:20).

He who gives good care to his servant from

the time he is young, will in the end find him
to be a son (Proverbs 29:21).

An angry man starts fights, and a man with a

bad temper is full of trouble (Proverbs 29:22).

120
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

A man's pride will bring him down, but he

whose spirit is without pride will receive
honor (Proverbs 29:23).

Whoever is an accomplice of a thief is an

enemy of his own soul. He takes an oath, but
dares not testify (Proverbs 29:24).

The fear of man brings a trap, but he who

trusts in the Lord will be honored (Proverbs
29:25).

Many look for the ruler's favor, but what is

right and fair comes from the Lord (Proverbs
29:26).

An ungodly man is a shame to those who are

right with God, and he who is right with God
is a shame to the ungodly (Proverbs 29:27).

121
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY THIRTY

Proverbs 30

The Wisdom of Agur

The wise saying of Agur the son of Jakeh of

Massa. The man says to Ithiel and Ucal:

”For sure, I am more ignorant than any man,

and I do not have the understanding of a man.
I have not learned wisdom, and I do not know
much about the Holy One. Who has gone up
into heaven and come down? Who has
gathered the wind in His hands? Who has
gathered the waters in His coat? Who has put
in place all the ends of the earth? What is His
name, and what is His Son's name? For sure
you know” (Proverbs 30:1-4).

Every word of God has been proven true. He

is a safety-blanket to all who trust in Him. Do
not add to His words, or He will speak strong
words to you and prove you to be a liar
(Proverbs 30:5-6).

Two things I have asked of You. Do not keep

me from having them before I die: 8Take lies

122
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

and what is false far from me. Do not let me be

poor or rich. Feed me with the food that I need.
Then I will not be afraid that I will be full and
turn my back against You and say, "Who is the
Lord?" And I will not be afraid that I will be
poor and steal, and bring shame on the name
of my God (Proverbs 30:7-9).

Do not speak against an employee while

talking with his employer, or he may speak
against you and you get into trouble (Proverbs
30:10).

There are those who curse their fathers, and

do not honor their mothers. There are people
who are right in their own eyes, but are not
washed from their own dirt. There is a kind, O,
how proud are his eyes! His eyes are opened
wide with pride. There is a generation whose
teeth are like swords, and their jaws like
knives, to devour the poor from the earth, and
the needy from among men (Proverbs 30:11-
14).

The one who lives by the blood of another

has two daughters, "Give," "Give." There are
three things that are never filled, four that
never say, "Enough": The place of the dead, the
woman who cannot have children, the earth
that is always thirsty for water, and fire that
never says, "Enough" (Proverbs 30:15-16).

123
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

The eye that makes fun of a father and hates

to obey a mother will be picked out by the
ravens of the valley and eaten by the young
eagles (Proverbs 30:17).

There are three things which are too great for

me, four which I do not understand: The way
of an eagle in the sky, the way of a snake on a
rock, the way of a ship out at sea, and the way
of a man with a woman (Proverbs 30:18-19).

This is the way of a woman who is not

faithful in marriage: She eats and washes her
mouth, and says, "I have done no wrong"
(Proverbs 30:20).

Under three things the earth shakes, and

under four it cannot stand: Under a servant
when he becomes ruler, under a fool when he
is filled with food, under a woman who is not
loved when she gets a husband, and under a
woman servant when she takes the place of the
woman of the house (Proverbs 30:21-23).

There are four things that are small on the

earth, but they are very wise: The ants are not a
strong people, but they store up their food in
the summer. The badgers are not a strong
people, but they make their houses in the
rocks. The locusts have no ruler, but they go as
an army. You can take the lizard in your

124
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

hands, but it is found in rulers' houses

(Proverbs 30:24-28).

There are three things which have honor in

their steps, even four which show honor in
their walk: The lion, which is powerful among
wild animals and does not turn away from
any, the proud rooster, the male goat, and a
ruler when his army is with him (Proverbs
30:29-31).

If you have been ignorant in honoring

yourself, or if you have planned wrong, put
your hand on your mouth. Shaking milk makes
butter, and hitting the nose brings blood. So
fighting comes because of anger (Proverbs
30:32-33).

125
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

DAY THIRTY ONE

Proverbs 31

The Wisdom of King Lemuel's Mother

The words of Lemuel king of Massa, which

his mother taught him:

What, my son? What, son who came from

within me? What, son of my promises? Do not
give your strength to women, or your ways to
that which destroys kings. It is not for kings, O
Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for
kings to desire strong drink. Or they might
drink and forget the law, and go against the
rights of all who are suffering. Give strong
drink to him who is ready to die, and wine to
him in bitter distress. Let him drink and forget
his lack, lost and limitations. Open your mouth
for those who cannot speak, and for the rights
of those who are left without help. Open your
mouth. Be right and fair in what you decide.
Stand up for the rights of those who are
suffering and impoverished (Proverbs 31:1-9).

126
WISDOM, WELLNESS & WEALTH

Who can find a good wife? She is worth far

more than rubies that make one rich. The heart
of her husband trusts in her, and he will never
stop getting good things. She does him good
and not bad all the days of her life. She looks
for wool and flax, and works with willing
hands. She is like ships that trade. She brings
her food from far away. She rises while it is
still night and makes food for all those in her
house. She gives work for the young women to
do (Proverbs 31:10-15).

She gives careful thought to a field and buys

it. She plants grape-vines from what she has
earned. She makes herself ready with strength,
and makes her arms strong. She sees that what
she has earned is good. Her lamp does not go
out at night. She puts her hands to the wheel to
make cloth. She gives to the poor, and reaches
out to those in need. She is not afraid of the
snow for those in her house, for all of them are
dressed in red. She makes coverings for herself.
Her clothes are linen cloth and purple. Her
husband is known in the gates, when he sits
among the leaders of the land. She makes linen
clothes and sells them. She brings belts to those
who trade. Her clothes are strength and honor.
She is excited about the future. She speaks with
wisdom. The teaching of kindness is on her
tongue. She looks out for the well being of
those in her house, and does not waste time.

127
A 31 DAY JOURNEY TO ABUNDANCE

Her children rise up and honor her. Her

husband does also, and he praises her, saying:
"Many daughters have done well, but you have
done better than all of them." Pleasing ways lie
and beauty comes to nothing, but a woman
who fears the Lord will be praised. Give her
the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise
her in the gates (Proverbs 31:16-31).
