Description
Contains one Service (excluding flights) or Service Bundle which is priced per unit. A La
Carte Offer Items are optional, and the quantities of these can be selected for any of the
eligible passengers and segments.

These are offer items within a standalone Offer supplementing regular offers with ancillaries
for the same passengers and segments. This enhances the shopping basket concept. The
main purpose of this structure is to reduce the size of the message by proposing Offer Items
which are applicable to multiple flight-related Offers defined above.

Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System. A digital datalink system for
transmission of short, relatively simple messages between aircraft and ground stations.

When used for children and infant fares, this shall mean the child/infant must be
accompanied by an adult paying an applicable adult fare or traveling at industry free or
reduced fare tickets
An arrangement by which a body holds funds on behalf of a client.
A validated official document (such as an airline ticket, check, or payment voucher) that has
a monetary value and must be accounted for.
Examples in IATA standards include "Accountable Traffic Documents” listed in Resolution
781 (electronic ticket, EMD, etc.). Further classification of "Accountable Documents” is given
in RP 1720a.

Planned utilization layout of aircraft interior space.

Set of related limitations of an aircraft usually defined by the manufacturer in order to avoid

The weight of passengers, baggage, cargo and mail and includes both revenue and non-

The complete alphanumeric identification assigned by the appropriate licensing authority to
an individual aircraft. Hyphens contained within the registration shall not be included. E.g.
GBOAC, N46573, ZZ123.
The A4A/IATA Reservations Interline Message Procedures. It is the mandatory multilateral
data exchange standard for interline communications for passenger reservations. A guide to
teletype messages formats and rules that govern transmission circumstances for reservation
type functions.
An enterprise operating aircrafts for commercial purposes which (i) performs scheduled or
non-scheduled air transport services, or both, which are available to the public for carriage of
passengers, mail and/or cargo and (ii) is certified for such purposes by the civil aviation
authority of the state in which it is established.
It is used as the first three digits of a passenger traffic document, e.g., ticket. This identifies
the document as being issued by or on behalf of an airline or non-airline company other than
a CRS. This code is assigned by IATA.

Advance Purchase Excursion Fares

For fare construction purposes, a fare which is established after the application of all fare
construction calculations, e.g. excess mileage fare, higher intermediate fare but excluding
related charges e.g. amounts to be annotated with "S" or "Q"
(see "Airlines Reporting Corporation")
The extent or measurement of a surface or piece of land, or a space allocated for a specific
use. E.g. Check-in area, or security area at an airport.
See floor load limitation.
Arrival unknown or via means other than scheduled air service. Used in reservations to fill a
gap in the itinerary.
A point in the travel itinerary where an entire qualifying group of passengers assemble and
commence transportation as a group.

Maximum load acceptable on each side of the compartment floor in relation with each other.

Set of related asymmetrical load limitations.


The form of automated ticket and boarding pass described in Resolutions 722c and 722d. It
is a single copy non-carbonised ticket (normally on card stock) with each coupon imprinted
separately. Each coupon used for air transport is comprised of a flight coupon and a
detachable passenger coupon and boarding pass for a specific flight. One coupon is issued
as the passenger receipt which together with all passenger coupons and boarding passes
builds up the passenger copy of the passenger ticket and baggage check.

A term used to designate a vendor who provides desired services and/or accommodations
needed by the passenger in conjunction with airline space, e.g., car and hotel.

A piece of luggage associated with a passenger, packed for traveling, and necessary or
appropriate in connection with a journey.

A label document issued by a carrier solely for identification of checked baggage, the
baggage (strap) tag portion of which is attached by the carrier to a particular article of
checked baggage, and the baggage (identification) tag portion of which is given to the
passenger.
Equivalent to the term "Luggage", means such articles, effects, and other personal property
of a passenger as are necessary or appropriate for wear, use, comfort, or convenience in
connection with his trip. Unless otherwise specified, it includes both checked and unchecked
baggage.
As defined in applicable tariffs, of a passenger, carried in connection with the trip for which
the passenger has purchased a ticket and which has been checked in accordance with
applicable tariffs.

This code combined with the tag serial number are used to identify each piece of checked
luggage through all baggage handling processes. It is a three numeric identifier assigned by
IATA. The code is generally referred to as the BTIC.
Horizontal distance in length units from reference datum to the location.
Numeric expression of the position of the center of gravity.
Limitation of an aircraft usually defined by the manufacturer in order to ensure proper
balance conditions for safe flight.
The end points forward and aft of the range within which the center of gravity of an aircraft
must lie for safe flight.
Requirement to put specific balance information on specific types of load sheet (provisional,
final, ACARS,...).
Dead load weight carried to achieve a particular balance condition.
Bank Account payment method definition. Customer bank accounts for payments, either for
paper checks or electronic funds transfer.
The rate at which, for the purpose of the transfer of funds through banking channels (i.e.
other than transactions in bank notes, travelers cheques and similar banking instruments), a
bank will purchase a given amount of foreign currency in exchange for one unit (or units) of
the national currency of the country in which the exchange transaction takes place

fixed equipment, system fluids, unusable fuel and configuration equipment including galley

A grouping of ULD positions (Stack/String) used as a method of maximizing the ULD
capacity of a lower hold by not using intermediate locks.
Sleeping accommodation as one of the following:
(a) a permanent, built-in, full length bunk; or
(b) sleeping accommodation converted from normal day time sitting accommodation which
for each berth either requires more than one seat or renders more than one seat unusable.

between airlines and Travel Agents.

Cached availability is a database of saved availability on a Members. flights for a pre-


designated length of time and/or degree of accuracy. This database is stored in an external
entity's system (e.g. GDS, online subscriber, direct connect provider, agency). A cache may
be used in place of availability queries only when bilaterally agreed.
When a Member or CRS is required to cancel or change reservations (including waitlistings)
on any segment of an itinerary it shall determine what disposition is to be made of the entire
itinerary and shall promptly cancel all unwanted segments.
The service charge made by reason of failure of a passenger to use reserved
accommodation without having cancelled such accommodation prior to the latest appropriate
time for cancellation specified by the carrier.

route. In flight operations, the change occurs under an Airline Designator and Flight Number
between the station of origin and the station of final destination. In flight distribution, the

An amount to be paid for carriage of excess baggage based on the applicable rate for such
carriage; or an amount to be paid for a special or incidental service in connection with the
carriage of a passenger or baggage.
A written order instructing a financial institution to pay immediately on demand a specified

specific person is not named, to whoever bears the check to the institution for payment.

A digit added to a given number to check the accuracy of the number. The modulus 7 check
digit used with document numbers is the remainder of the division of the number to be
checked by 7.
Baggage of which the carrier takes sole custody and for which the carrier has issued a
baggage check.
A counter in an airport at which a passenger may check in.
The process involving those activities necessary to evaluate passengers and make them
ready to board flights, possibly including :
- verification of reservation status;
- selection of seat if not already made and possibly other amenities;

Ticket and Baggage Check or provision of services to the person named in such document

Exchange is defined the value of one document moved to another document, in accordance
with the provisions of IATA Passenger Tariff Coordinating Conference Resolution 017f
Section C1 "Voluntary Reroutings (for totally unused tickets)". Reissue is defined as an
issuance of a new ticket against a previously issued ticket, in accordance with the provisions
of IATA Passenger Tariff Coordinating Conference Resolution 017f Section B "Voluntary
Reroutings (for partly used pricing units)" or Section C2.

A space with equipment or piece of equipment that allows a process to take place. For
example, this can be an airport, a hangar, a loading dock, a kiosk, a runway, etc.

The point in a portion of an itinerary applicable to a given Member at which the passenger
commences travel on the services of that Member. When the itinerary is changed, the term
relates to the point at which the passenger commences travel on Members' service in the
revised routing, irrespective of the start point applicable to the original itinerary.

The participating carrier over whose air routes the first section of carriage under the Ticket is
undertaken or performed.
The fare established for a first class service.
A hinged or sliding section of an aircraft wing used to control lift.
Group of similar vehicles operating together under the same ownership.

An invocation of an activity or purpose natural to or intended for a person or thing.


Also known as"Complexing", "Starburst", Shared, "W" or "Y" flights. A flight composed of two
or more member flights which is identified by the airline designator and flight number of one
of the members. Only one airline designator/flight number is operational on any one leg, but
a leg may have multiple, non-operational flight numbers.
Example: Legs AD, BD and CD are each members (with Leg DE) of funnel flights ADE, BDE
and CDE. Legs AD and DE comprise Segment AE (ADE), and are identified by the member
flight number DL 123. Legs BD and DE comprise Segment BE (BDE), and are identified by
the member flight number DL 456.
Legs CD and DE comprise Segment CE (CDE), and are identified by the member flight
number DL 789.

Leg DE is not identified by flight number DL 456 when it is not a member of Segment BE
(BDE).

Leg DE is not identified by flight number DL 789 when it is not a member of Segment CE
(CDE). It continues to be identified as DL 123 when it is point-to-point from D to E.

Note: A funnel flight may be built in either direction, from many legs into one segment (as in
the above example), and/or from one leg into many segments.

Group Inclusive Tour Fares?

Anything given gratuitously by a carrier, whether or not paid for by the carrier, to a passenger,
other than whether or not paid for by the carrier, to a passenger, other than air carriage from
airport of departure to airport of destination.
A personal name given to someone at birth and used before a family name. Also called first
name. E.g. JOHN.
The global routing applicable to the fare as shown in Resolution 011b.

Merchandise or possession.

When used in the Interline Reservations context, ten or more passengers, excluding infants,
travelling together or where provisions of Reso 766, section14.2 apply.
Any person (including a Tariff Conference Member or IATA Sales Agent) who organises and
promotes prepaid pre-arranged group travel.

A legal guardian or a person acting in lieu of parents in the event of death or legal incapacity
of parents.
Half of a specified or constructed round trip normal or special fare. In the absence of a
specified or constructed round trip normal fare, the one way normal fare is considered to be
a half round trip normal fare. If a specified or constructed one way special fare may be
doubled to establish a round trip special fare, the one way special fare is considered to be a
half round trip special fare

An airline who utilises the facilities of another system to process, on an inventory basis,

Grouping of aircraft with the same form, function and specification, currently flown, or soon to
be flown. Possible types are defined in the IATA SSIM.

range, cockpit configuration.
Two or three character code assigned by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Designators are used to identify an airline for all commercial purposes, including
reservations, timetables, tickets, tariffs, air waybills and in airline interline
telecommunications. In the case of two-character designators, they may consist of two alpha
characters, one alpha with one numeric, or one numeric with one alpha. In the case of CRS
Suppliers, they may only consist of one numeric (number "1" only) and one alpha. In the
case of three-character designators, they must always contain three alpha characters.

The rates of exchange notified by IATA to convert local currency fare to NUC and to convert
total NUC amounts to the currency of the country of commencement of transportation.

A code assigned by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to aircraft operating
agencies, aeronautical authorities and services. The codes are unique by airline. Each
aircraft operating agency, aeronautical authority and services related to international aviation
is allocated both a three-alpha designator and a telephony designator.

Line connecting the optimal positions of the center of gravity of an aircraft depending on its
weight.
Set of related Ideal Trim Line Points forming an ideal trim line applying to a specific set of CG
limits or to all CG limits.
The optimal position of the center of gravity of an aircraft depending on its weight.
A character or group of characters used to identify or name an item of data and possibly to
indicate certain properties of that data.
Information which uniquely identifies a person, organization, animal or object.
Any document which may be used to identify a person or verify aspects of a person's
personal identity. If issued in a small, standard credit card size form, it is usually called an
identity card. Some countries issue formal identity documents, while others may require
identity verification using informal documents. When the identity document incorporates a
person's photograph, it may be called photo ID.

In the absence of a formal identity document, a driver's license may be accepted in many
countries for identity verification. Most countries accept passports as a form of identification.

grandchildren, parents-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law

A spouse, children, parents, brothers, sisters, dependent relatives or dependents in the


household (see Resolution 788).
This is a flight that meets one or more of the following criteria:
(a) operation of an air service over an entirely new route;
(b) operation of an air service over an existing route with an extension at either the origin
and/or destination points;
(c) operation of an air service to a new intermediate point; or
(d) operation of a new type of aircraft different from that previously operated by the carrier on
the route.

A passenger whose physical, medical or mental condition requires individual attention (on
enplaning and deplaning, during flight, in an emergency evacuation, during ground handling)
which is not normally extended to other passengers.

A pre-arranged combination of air transportation and surface arrangements other than solely
public transportation.

Unit used to simplify the calculation of the influence of weight on balance. For a weight W at
a certain location (balance arm) the corresponding index is calculated by following formula:
Index = W * (Balance Arm - Reference Arm)/C + K

C = Defined weight Constant to convert moment values into index values
K = Constant used as a plus value to avoid negative index figures (only used when
aircraft weight is included in the given weight).

Any scheduled continuous air route other than a direct route.

Any route other than the direct route operated between two points.
A single human being as distinct from a group, class, or family.
A status of a party at a particular time during a process.
An individual who has not reached his/her second birthday as of the date of commencement
of travel.
A person who has not reached his/her second birthday as of the date of commencement of
travel.

The fare for a person who has not attained his second birthday.
An individual article or unit of information, typically in electronic form.
A type of Facility. The basic physical and organizational structures and facilities (e.g.
buildings, roads, power supplies) needed for the operation of a society or enterprise.
A reciprocal action or influence.
A conversational dialogue between systems that allows for immediate processing and

A flight that gives passengers the benefit of a through service and is operated by two or more

through which a city or adjacent cities are served by an airline being considered as a single

Information related to the value of a product or service as it pertains to interline transactions.

Transfer from the service of one carrier to the service of another carrier.

A journey involving two or more different modes of transportation, e.g. between an airline and
a railway, as governed by Recommended Practice 1780e.
Existing, occurring, or carried between nations
Except for the purpose of the Warsaw Convention or the Montreal Convention, carriage in
which, according to the contract of carriage, the place of departure and any place of landing
are situated in more than one State. As used in this definition, the term "State" includes all
territory subject to the sovereignty, suzerainty, mandate, authority or trusteeship thereof.

A flight leg between two stations to which different ISO country codes apply.
A change from the international service of one carrier to another international service of the
same carrier (online transfer) or to the international service of another carrier (interline
transfer).
A change between the international service of one carrier and domestic service of the same
carrier (online transfer) or another carrier (interline transfer).

International Organisation for Standardisation. This organization assigns and maintains such
information as country codes.

Individual Inclusive Tour Fares?

An individual article or unit, especially one that is part of a list, collection, or set.
Movement which involves the transportation of any kind of item.
A single flight or a series of identical flights defined by a continuous Period and Days of
Operation (and Frequency Rate if applicable), each of which consists of one or more
contiguous legs which, taken together, describe the complete routing of that flight.
The sum of all portions from beginning to ending of passenger's trip (journey), even though
separated by gap(s).
Schedule and location information for travel.
A charge which applies for carriage over the lines of two or more carriers and which is

Set of related Lateral Imbalance Limits.
Landing Weight. Weight of an aircraft at landing. It is calculated by subtracting the trip fuel
from the take-off weight.
The end point forward of the mean aerodynamic chord.
The space between two consecutive scheduled stops on any given flight.
The operation between a departure station and the next arrival station.
A measurement or extent of something from end to end; the greater of two or the greatest of
three dimensions of an object.
A unique identifier composed of the Baggage Tag Issuer Code (BTIC) and the tag serial

An agreement reached by two or more TC Members; binding on those Members who are

load sheet, ACARS load sheet or any other approved form of transmission.
Requirement to put specific balance, passenger trim or supplementary information on
specific types of load sheet (provisional, final, ACARS,...).
A numerical representation of the C of G of the aircraft at landing weight expressed in index
units.

Mean Aerodynamic Chord. The average length of the chord (width) of the aircraft wing. Also
referred to as RC by some manufactures.
Indicates that information is acceptable to read by a system without manual input.
A stripe of magnetic material affixed to the back of a Computer Ticket or an Automated
Ticket/ Boarding Pass or Credit Card, on which most of the data relevant to that document is
magnetically encoded, and is machine readable.
All types of material communications carried on an aircraft, e.g. General Post Office mail,
diplomatic mail, military mail and company (airline) mail.
The carrier that sells with its own code as part of a code-share agreement on a flight actually
operated by another carrier.
The carrier that sells transport on a vehicle operated by itself, or by another carrier as part of
a commercial agreement between the two parties.
Married segments is a term used to identify two or more segments in an itinerary which are
actioned as a single unit (set).

A passenger who, due to late arrival or non-operation of his original delivering flight, arrives
at the interline point by his original delivering flight, an alternative flight or surface
transportation, too late to board his original receiving flight. See Resolution 766.
Baggage which is damaged, delayed, lost or pilfered.

Part of the aircraft restraint system missing or unserviceable.
Restriction on weight applicable when one or more locks are inoperable or missing.

industry. Examples include aircraft movement (flight or surface movement), vehicle

A System which enables a user to have real time access to a variety of airline Systems
through a common switching centre and/or interface. See also "Direct Access" and "Single
Access System".
A system whereby a Travel Agent with a video display unit (VDU) and a ticket printer has
access to the reservations and ticketing systems of more than two airlines, and the Agent
can issue tickets of those airlines on its ticket printer.
A system that provides more than one airline with the facility to process, on an inventory
basis, reservations and other passenger related functions.
A set of identifiers to be used when multiple parties have different identifiers for the same
item.
A form used for automated issuance of interline accountable traffic documents other than the

is a multi-copy carbonised form or a document issued coupon-by-coupon for use by carriers

Letters which follow a person's name and which provide additional information about the

A virtual address in an IT network.
The form of an electronic ticket or paper Automated Ticket for use by Travel Agents. In the
case of paper tickets, there is no preprinted individual airline identity.
A computer system that issues Neutral Tickets in a Travel Agent's office on behalf of various
airlines participating in that scheme.
A new carrying carrier selected for onward carriage by the forwarding carrier from the point
where involuntary change of routing becomes necessary (see Resolution 735d).
A condition which exists whenever a passenger presents a ticket for reserved space but the

Y2). Children's fares and infants' fares which are established as a percentage of the fares
referred to above are also considered to be normal fares.
Travel from one country and return thereto, comprising two international fare components,
only and where
a) origin open jaw: the outward point of departure in the country of unit origin and the inward
point of arrival in the country of unit origin are different
OR
b) turnaround open jaw: the outward point of arrival and the inward point of departure are
different
OR
c) double open jaw: the outward point of departure in the country of unit origin and the inward
point of arrival in the country of unit origin are different (origin jaw) AND the outward point of
arrival and the inward point of departure are different (turnaround open jaw).

A failure to use reserved accommodation for reasons other than misconnections.


The charge made by reason of the failure of a passenger to use reserved accommodation,
either through failure to arrive at the airport at the time fixed by the carrier, or through arriving

main purpose of this structure is to reduce the size of the messages by inserting Offer Items

NB. For the OfferID of the ALaCarteOffer: Default OfferID identifier for A La Carte Offer Items
in a scenario where items here are not selected for a flight-related Offer above.

Facilitates the tracking and verification of individually priced Offer(s) selected from the

A ‘PNR’, ‘super PNR’ and ‘ticket’ are all today’s versions of airline implementations of aspects
of an Order.

is the same for the routing travelled; provided that this definition shall not apply to round the
world travel if the fares to be used differ through class of service/seasonality/day-of-
week/carrier variations, the outbound fare shall be used also for the inbound fare component
for the purpose of determining if the pricing unit is a round trip.

Travel entirely by air from a point to another point and return to the original point comprising
two half round trip fare components only, for which the applicable half round trip fare for each

when the only factor is conversion to or from Daylight Time, with departure and arrival times
remaining the same in terms of local time.

A service offered by an airline which is displayed in an official airline guide, has a two-
character or three-letter airline designator, and operates between points having three-letter
city/airport codes.
A series of flights possessing the following characteristics:
(a) performed by aircraft for the transport of passengers and/or cargo for remuneration, in
such a manner that its services are available, directly or indirectly, to the general public; and
(b) operated so as to service traffic between the same two or more points, either:

components or one complete structural unit. A combination unit is an aircraft pallet plus net
plus nonstructural igloo, or pallet plus net. A structural unit is a lower deck or a main deck
cargo container, or a structural igloo assembly.
