To execution the demolition of the canopy steel structure the boundary/temporary
fence which is just near the sub road public thru fare is the focal point and required sequence of operation.
The building to be demolished on site is of steel framed type structure, and
roofing with corrugated single ply steel sheeting. Prior to any structural demolitions taking place, the site supervisor and plant operatives will walk the building to familiarize themselves with the building and any potential issues. The site will be enclosed by use of metal sheet type fencing. Warning signs will also be displayed on the site boundary in clear and visible positions. To protect any accident it is recommended to close the sub road for traffic and care shall be taken to protect the nearby structures. It is important to remove and dispose all burnable loose rubbish and garbage such as papers, plastic, wood and boards from site to avoid any fire hazard. Initial step is to ensure that all electrical and mechanical equipment’s are disconnected and all the pipe works are inserted and removed including the inserting of underground fuel storage tanks. Prior to starting the removal of the underground tanks which involves the crane operation it is crucial to remove the canopy structure. Prior to starting the above ground demolition ensure to remove all the obsolete electrical, and communication lines. Carefully complete the soft striping of the cladding by mechanical equipment specially designed for the purpose. Carefully strip out all light gauge purlins and roof sheeting. Once all the soft covering are removed, dismantle the steel structure gradually in sequence from roof truss, cross supports, all bracing connections and finally the columns, as far as possible since this is a bolted structure, it is preferred to unbolt the joints mechanically or manually or by mechanical cutting and remove individual members. All steel will be removed from the site in suitable skips that will be transported from the site for disposal. All above ground and underground demolition works must be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the applicable APEA blue book third edition. Care shall be taken to prevent excessive noise due to mechanical equipment operation. All the necessary precautions to minimize dust pollution shall be put in place. At no times shall operatives gain access to partially demolished or unsafe buildings to recover soft stripped materials, these materials will be removed by mechanical means and when safe to do so by hand method. Working at height will be restricted to a minimum, with the majority of high level demolitions being carried out by mechanical means i.e. Demolition type excavators /Plant fitted with controlled attachments such as mechanical grapples, concrete breakers, concrete pulverizes and buckets. Where access to work at height may be required access will be gained by use of either Cherry Picker or Scissor Lift type Mobile Elevated Work Platform. Dispensers and vent pipes if applicable routed and/or removed and located to ensure protection from external effects or interference during demolition.
