This specification is a pplicable only to non-sour service and for onsh ore crude oil, petroleum products and LPG pip eline.

This specification is ap plicable for pipe fittings equivalent to pressure r ating 150# to 900#.

3.0

Design:

3.1.

Pipe fittings shall com ply with the requirements of ASME B16.9/MSS S P 75 as indicated in this specification and as p er specific requirement of project .

3.2.

Pressure-temperature ratings shall be as per ASME B16.9/MSS SP 75/IS O 15590-2.

 

3.3.

The capability of the

fitting to withstand internal pressure shall equa l or exceed that of the

 

matching pipe. The d esign calculations and/or results of proof testin g shall be available for review at the manufac turer s facility and the same to be submitted to p urchaser.

 

3.4.

Wall thickness of fittin ngs shall not be less than the connecting pipe th ickness indicated in any case.

3.5.

Nominal bore of fittin gs shall be that of the connecting pipeline.

 

3.6.

The welding end of thickness (of intended

fittings shall be in accordance with Figure 1 connecting pipe) of 19 mm (0.88 in.) and less.

3.7.

If the SMYS of the

fitting material is less than that of the match ing pipe, the minimum

 

thickness of the fittin g end shall be increased such that the product

of its thickness times its

matching pipe, in acco ordance with MSS SP-75.

 
 

3.8.

When the fitting thic kness at the welding end is greater than the a djoining pipe, the joint design shall be as sho wn in any of the three sketches in Figure 3 of MS S-SP-75.

3.9.

If SMYS of the fitting

material and pipe to be joined are equal, then we ld end thickness of pipe

 

fittings shall be same as that of pipe.

 
 

3.10.

Fittings such as tees, e lbows and reducers shall be seamless type for siz es 16 NB and shall be welded type for sizes 18 NB.

3.11.

Fittings shall conform to dimensional standard as per MSS-SP-75 for si ze 16 and larger and as per ASME B 16.9 for si ze less than 16 .

3.12.

For the tees installed i n main pig receiving line, barred tees to be used . The bars shall be made

 

of mild steel and shall

be welded with full penetration welds. No. of ve rtical bars shall be 3nos.

with no cross brace u p to 12 branch size, 5 nos. vertical bars with on e cross brace for branch size 14 to 24 , 6 nos s vertical bars with two cross brace for branch si ze above 24 . Vendor to

be provided detailed

drawing of barred tee with detailed dimensional d rawing for approval.

 

3.13.

Welders and welding o perators shall be qualified in accordance with AS ME IX.

 

3.14.

Welding and repair w elding shall be performed in accordance with

procedures qualified in

 

accordance with ASM E IX. Procedure qualification shall include Ch arpy V-Notch test for weld/HAZ and hardnes s test.

 

3.15.

Weld repairs are only p ermitted to welds. Repair welding in base materia l is not permitted.

3.16.

WPS shall be submitted

to purchaser for approval before start of work.

Any previously approved

 

WPS, PQR and WQT ca n also be submitted for purchaser review and clea rance.

 
 

3.17.

Fittings shall not contai n girth welds.

 

3.18.

All fittings shall be hea t-treated (normalized) irrespective of pressure ra ting in accordance with ISO 15590-2 Clause 8.3 .3. Record and graph shall be maintained of eac h heat treatment batch. Procedure for heat trea tment to be submitted to purchaser for approval.

3.19.

The reinforcement of i nside weld seam shall be removed for a distanc e of 100 mm from each end of the welded fittin gs.

4.0

Pipe Fittings materia l

4.1.

General

4.1.1.

Raw material used for r fittings shall be of fully-killed steel. It shall have or finer, as defined in ASTM E 112

4.2.
Chemical compositi on
4.2.1.
Manufacturer shall ca rry out a chemical analysis on each heat of stee l used and also on two
products per heat.
4.2.2.
Chemical composition of fittings material shall be as per Table-4 (Class C) of ISO 15590-2.
4.2.3.
Maximum Carbon Equ ivalent shall be 0.43% when calculated with the f ollowing formula:
CE = C +MN/ 6 + (Cr+ Mo+V)/5 + Cu+Ni)/15
4.2.4.
If any chemical analys is (both raw material and product) fails to meet the requirements stated
above, the whole hea t shall be rejected or each individual product sh all be fully analysed and
all products failing to meet the requirements shall be rejected.
5.0
Inspection and testin g:
5.1.
General
5.1.1.
Testing and inspectio n shall be carried out on fittings after final heat tr eatment.
5.1.2.
Chemical, Mechanica l, impact Testing shall be carried out for each h eat under each lot and
each heat treatment
batch unless otherwise specified.

5.1.3.
Test pieces for all de structive testing shall be taken from finished fi tting. All inspection and
testing cost shall be i ncluded in cost of fittings itself.
5.1.4.
Test pieces shall be p repared in accordance with ISO 377. If thermal c utting has been used to
remove samples, the
full extent of the heat-affected region shall
be removed during the
preparation of the tes t pieces.
5.1.5.
All fittings shall be vi sually inspected. The internal and external surfac es of the fittings shall be
free from any strikes, gauges and other detrimental defects.
5.2.

The fitting, which has b een hydro tested, shall be clearly identified by m arking.

The party shall provid e extra lengths at the ends to enable hydro tes t for all the fittings. The
edges are to be machi ned only after hydrotest.

No visual bulging is all owed during hydrotest for any of the fitting.

Acceptance standards of Radiography of weld joints and repair welds sh all be as per API 1104.

Any lamination larger t han 6.35 mm shall not be acceptable in weld end ultrasonic testing.

Welds which cannot b e radiographed shall be checked by ultrasonic

per this specification
at Manufacturer s works prior to shipment. Ma nufacturer shall provide

5.3.
Tensile testing:
5.3.1.
Sample orientation o f tensile test is as per ISO 15590-2 Clause 9.4. 2.1. For welded fittings,
weld tensile specimen s shall be taken as shown in Table-6.
5.3.2.
Tensile tests shall be carried out in accordance with ASTM A370.
5.3.3.
Tensile properties of base sample tested shall meet values as per mat erial specification grade
indicated in MSS-SP -75/ASME B16.9 as applicable w.r.t yield stre ngth, ultimate strength,
elongation.
5.3.4.
For transverse weld t ensile, test result shall meet tensile strength valu es of respective grade as
indicated in MSS-SP- 75/ASME B16.9 as applicable
5.4.
Charpy V-notch im pact test:
5.4.1.
Charpy V-notch test pieces shall be prepared in accordance with AST M A370/ ISO 148-1 with
the axis of the notch
perpendicular to the fitting surface.
5.4.2.
The orientation of t est piece shall be as per Table-6 and size of th e test pieces shall be as
follows:
5.4.2.1.
If transverse specim en of 10 mm is not possible, then sub-size spe cimen can be taken. For
sub size test pieces,
the minimum required absorbed energy valu es shall be adjusted in
accordance with AST M A370.
5.4.2.2.
If transverse test pie ces with a minimum width of 5 mm are not p ossible, longitudinal test
pieces with the great est possible width between 10 mm and 5 mm sha ll be used.
5.4.3.
% shear area at the f racture surface to be reported.
5.4.4.
Each set of impact te sts shall consist of three adjacent test pieces.

5.4.5.
The impact test tem perature shall be 0°C for petroleum and crude
oil service and -29°C for
LPG service unless o therwise specified. For low temperature carbo n steel material, impact
energy and testing te mperature shall be as per respective material gra de specification.
5.4.6.

5.4.7.
The minimum averag e and individual Charpy V-notch values when tes ting test pieces taken in

5.5.

5.7.
Non destructive test ing:
Fittings shall be subje ct to the following inspection:
5.7.1.
Ultrasonic testing of
weld ends: The final 50 mm wide band of each
weld end of the fitting
shall be UT inspected for the detection of laminar imperfections in acc ordance with ISO 11496.
The reference standa rd shall be a flat bottom hole. This 50-mm ban d shall extend from the
intersection of the we ld bevel and fitting outside diameter back along
the body of the fitting.
Laminar imperfection s shall not exceed a length of 6 mm in the circu mferential direction and
their area shall not ex ceed 100 mm2
5.7.2.
The bevel faces shall
be machined and shall be free from cracks, lami nations, notches, scores,
pits etc.
5.7.3.
Ultrasonic testing of fi tting body:
-
Ultrasonic ex amination for laminations :
In case the fit ting is welded type, the area adjacent to the weld shall be tested in
accordance w ith ISO 13663. Acceptance level E1.
Plate for weld ed fittings may be examined ultrasonically in acc ordance with ISO 12094

5.7.4.

6.0

Gauging:

 

The ends of gauge with a

each fitting shall be tested for out-of-roundnes s using an internal ring diameter of 5 mm less than the nominal intern al diameter. The gauge

shall pass fre ely into each end of the fitting when held norm al to the fitting axis. For bends the int ernal diameter shall be verified by passing a dou ble gauge plate through each bend. T he gauge shall have two parallel 6 mm thick al luminium plates, each a minimum of 9 2 % of the nominal pipe ID, separated by a dista nce of 100 mm.

 

7.0

Dimensional requirem ents and Tolerance:

 
 

Butt weld end thickness of fittings shall not be less than the co nnecting pipe thickness. Other dimens ional requirements and tolerance shall be as per ASME B 16.9 for size 14 and as pe r MSS-SP-75 for size 16 .

 

8.0

Marking

8.1.

Marking shall be such that complete traceability is demonstrated in all stages of manufacture.

8.2.

One or both ends of e ach fitting shall be marked with the following inf ormation:

 
 

1. Purchase Order and Item number

2. Fitting material grade

 

3. Nominal wall th ickness at fitting ends/pipe schedule

 

4. Manufacturer s name/logo/trade mark

5. DN / NPS

 

6. Serial no. and H eat number

 

7. Heat Treatment batch number

8. TPI witnessed m ark on fittings tested.

 

8.3.

For fittings designed

with a lower SMYS than the matching pipe, bot h the fitting designation

 

and the intended mat ching pipe grade shall be marked.

 
 

8.4.

For fittings of DN 10 0 and larger, markings shall be executed in blo ck capitals of minimum height of 19 mm. For smaller fittings, the character height shall be ap propriate. Identification markings shall not be applied on weld bevels.

8.5.

Markings shall be ma de with indelible paint on the inside surface or r, if it is not possible to mark on the inside su rface (i.e. for smaller diameter fittings <10 ), on th e outside.

9.0

Handling, storage an d packing

 
 

Manufacturer shall en sure that all finished fittings are handled and sto red in such a manner so

as to preserve the

machined faces and general surface conditi on of the fitting. The

manufacturer shall en sure that all fittings are adequately protected a gainst corrosion during

transportation and sto rage by applying proper rust protective coating. Manufacturer shall take

10.1.

indicated in pu rchase order.

 

- WPS, PQR and WQT as per ASME IX

- Procedure for N DT viz. Radiography and Ultrasonic testing

10.3.

At the time of Despat ch for each lot

 

- List of fittings p roduced/lot size and rating, quantity, heat no.

- Manufacturer t est/Mill certificate to signify compliance with spe cification.

- Raw material te st certificate from original steel manufacturer

- Duly witnessed /reviewed documents, as applicable, as per QAP f rom TPI.

- Record of Heat treatment with graph, date of heat treatment for all size and rating along with Hea t no.

- All Mechanical, chemical test, Hardness, impact, NDT test report s and certificates

- Dimensional in spection test reports.

 

- All other docum ents as indicated in QAP.

- The fittings sha ll be guaranteed by the vendor against defective materials, poor workmanship, i mproper design and failure in normal usage with in 18 months from the date of supply.

- The supplied fit tings shall be guaranteed for withstanding hydro static testing along with

the piping syst em at a pressure of 1.5 times the pressure rating summary of req uirement.

Handling, storage an d packing Manufacturer shall en sure that all finished flanges are handled and sto red in such a manner so

 

as to preserve the

machined faces and general surface conditio n of the forging. The

manufacturer shall en sure that all flanges are adequately protected a gainst corrosion during

transportation and sto rage by applying proper rust protective coating.

Manufacturer shall ta ke suitable corrective action if damage is observe d by the Inspector/IOCL site representative du e to inadequate handling or storage conditions.
