INTERNAL VACANCY

Welding Engineer
SITE: SSW Redditch
RESPONSIBLE TO: Operations Manager
HOURS OF WORK: Days
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Responsible for evaluating existing welding processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve
sustainability and develop best practices within the production process using SMED, LEAN activities and develop
standard operating procedures in line with customer’s expectations
PRINCIPLE DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Evaluate and improve on all welding processes in manufacturing systems, utilising knowledge of production
specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
 Research and development new processes and procedures, improving existing or develop new welding
equipment, developing new or modifying current welding methods, techniques and procedures.
 Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions
and material processes.
 Develop TPM schedules to maintain equipment reliability
 Maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs
and changeovers.
 Develop innovative solutions, evaluating new developments in the welding field for possible application to
current welding problems or production processes.
 Improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards.
 Prepare samples for study, record, and present data to all levels of management.
 Develop and implement systems that optimise all phases of the welding production process.
 Work as part of a team to advise on corrective actions.
 Work with equipment designers to develop a cost-effective and working production process.
 Ensure projects are completed on time.
 Ensure financial budgets are followed.

These duties are not 'limited' or 'fixed' and you may be required to take on additional reasonable responsibilities, as
our business needs change. You may also need to visit other sites to support.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
To be successful you will need demonstrate a proven track record in an automotive manufacturing environment, have
proficient knowledge and understanding of both Mig and resistance welding solutions. You will also have the ability to
program from base robots (preferably ABB and Motoman robots), have proven problem solving techniques 8D, 5 WHY
etc, experience in SMED activities, PFMEA / machine FMEA and Root cause analysis.

The ideal candidate will also have a thorough understanding in the application of business systems / processes TS16949
th
and ISO 14001 and welding qualifications / 17 edition electrical.

You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, have a high level of
numerical and analytical ability and a passion for continuous improvement and process development.
