SYNTHESIZED TUNER BOARD

50-150 MHz approx. tuning range. 10.7 MHz IF. MC145155 synth IC and a Mitsumi 407-A26 tuner
module. All controlled by a Z8 CPU and 2716. New. Comes with schematic and spec sheet for major
components.

Control Unit With Tuner

The module is a dual-function unit. It contains a Mitsumi 407-A26 varactor tuner which is under the
control of a Z8681 microprocessor (IC203). The firmware for IC203 is contained in IC210, a 2715
EPROM. The local oscillator signal from the Mitsumi sigtuner is divided by IC202 (SP8660) and applied
to IC203 (MC145155). Tuning control voltage for the local oscillator is processed by IC201 and
presented to the V1 pin of the Mitsumi tuner. A three-bit digital word applied to IC201, pins 10, 11,
and 12 control the tuning. The microprocessor also monitors the three-phase shaft encoder (“rotary
switch”, the auto-track signal, and the position of the Auto/Manual switch. In addition to controlling the
Mitsumi tuner, the microprocessor also controls the LED display, outputs serial data, and controls the
IF/Expander module.

Synth Tuner Basics

The synthesizer module contains a Mitsumi 407-A26 varactor tuner, the receive frequency of which
is controlled by the combination of the MC145155 Motorola Synthesizer IC, and Z8 CPU. Firmware
is contained in the 2716 EPROM, IC210. Because of the frequency that the Synth IC operates, a
prescaler SP8660 (IC202) is used to divide the local oscillator frequency down to something the
MC145155 can use. A small changing DC level from the MC145155 is amplified by IC201 and supplies
the DC bias to control the frequency of the local oscillator. 10.7 MHz IF is taken out at CJ202. The tech
info supplied on the Motorola Synth IC explains the operation of this device. It is not necessary to use
the CPU controller and in the Motorola information there are charts for clocking in data to internal shift
registers to preset frequencies.
