Message

On behalf of the Philippine Embassy, it is my great honour and privilege to convey our congratulations
appreciation to Kabayan Magazine on the occasion of its fifth anniversary.

Founded in 2013, Kabayan has since earned a well-deserved reputation as the best ethnic magazine in
New Zealand, and as a great example of Overseas Filipino journalism. The only magazine-format Filipino
publication in the country, Kabayan has kept Filipinos and Kiwis abreast of the latest developments in
our community and shared features on important personages and activities. Kabayan is a labour of love.
Run by volunteers, it is a platform for Filipinos to showcase and hone their journalistic skills, and serves
as a training ground for young graphic designers and editors.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank and recognize the dedicated Kababayan behind Kabayan,
both present and past - Publisher, Sponsorship and Marketing Manager : Matilde Tayawa Figuracion.
