Decolonial Studies and International Relations: Perspectives from Southeast Asia

This panel welcomes research papers and essays that focus on the de-centering of International
Relations theories and practices in Southeast Asia. In line with the epistemic decolonial turn, studies
with and from a subaltern perspective (Grosfoguel 2007, p 211) about international affairs are highly
encouraged. The panel will begin with a presentation on the results of the TRIPS survey in the
Philippines and its implications for local theorization in IR. Possible topics for this panel include but are
not limited to – mapping decolonial scholarship in IR, genealogies or anthologies of local scholarship of
and about IR, novel practices or theories emanating from IR in Southeast Asia, and mid-range theorizing
and its value for decolonizing established paradigms.
