Abstract

In this work, we present a theoretical study of the polariton system which includes a con-
stant magnetic field in the growth direction of the micropillar. First, we study the zero
temperature case by means of a selfconsistent procedure with a trial function composed
by a coherent photon field and a BCS function for the electron-hole pairs. We show that
the magnetic field can be used as a control parameter of the photon number, and we make
explicit the scaling of the total energy with the number of polaritons. Next, we study this
system at finite temperatures and obtain the scaling of the critical temperature with the
number of polaritons.

mente el esquemita rojo amarillo del pilar a derecha de este texto

The system that we are interested in, is

• A cilyndrical Pillar-Microcavity.

• It’s composed by a stack of λ/4-Bragg mirrors (GaAs-AlGaAs).

• In the middle this heterostructure has a λ−cavity defect.

2

• Inside this λ−cavity, a quantum dot is placed near to the center to get a maximum
coupling between the q-dot and the electric field.

• An homogeneus magnetic field is placed in Z direction (the growth direction).

• A variational anzats for the system ground state.

• Trial function: | φi =| αi⊗ | BCSi, | αi : Coherent state for photons, and a BCS
state for electron-hole pairs :
Y
| BCSi = (un + vn e†n h†n ) | 0i.
n

• The Hamiltonian contains explicitly the Coulomb interaction

X (h) X (e) (h) β X 1
Ĥ = (En(e) e†n en + En̄ h†n̄ hn̄ ) + (tkn e†k en + tk̄n̄ hk̄ hn̄ ) + hr, s| |u, vi e†r e†s ev eu

• We consider fixed polariton number (no losses)

N̂pol = N̂pairs + N̂ph

• Minimize hĤ − µN̂ i with respect to α and vn (varational parameters).

• Selfconsistent procedure to solve the system of coupled equations.

Conclusions

• The magnetic field can be used to control the mean number of photons inside the
cavity.

• Transition from a “paramagnetic” state (magnetic moment parallel to B ) to a “dia-

magnetic” state (magnetic moment antiparallel to B ) at B ≈ 4T eslas.

• Transition from dB

same magnetic field value, B ≈ 4 Teslas.

finalmente que las figuras todas queden bien pero bien nitidas!!! Todo bien revisado!!!.
Revisar que todo quede en ingles.
