Chemistry Lower 6 Short Text : Chapter 1, 2, 3

Answer ALL questions.

1. Chlorine gas is made up of two isotopes, 75% and 25% . Calculate the relative atomic mass of chlorine.

2. Two glass bulbs are connected by a thin capillary tube with a tap on it. One of the glass bulbs has a volume of 1.0
dm3 and contains a gas at a pressure of 10 atmospheres. The other glass bulb has a volume of 2.0 dm3 and
contains a gas at a pressure of 8.0 atmospheres. What is the total pressure for the whole system if the tap on
the capillary tube is opened?

3. An enclosed container contains 3.2 g of oxygen and 0.4 g of hydrogen at atmospheric pressure and 00C. What
will be the partial pressure of oxygen if the temperature is raised to 150 0C. (O=16; H=1)

4. (a) Sketch the phase diagram for ethanoic acid by using the following data.
Triple point 16.6 0C
Melting point 16.7 0C
Boiling point 118.0 0C
(b) Sketch the cooling curve when ethanoic acid at 200 C is cooled until 15 0C at a constant pressure of 1 atm.
