ear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

2019 has arrived! It does not matter whether we stayed up and

watched the New Year roll in or whether we went to bed and slept the New
Year in, 2019 showed up at the precise time that it was supposed to. As
2019 arrived it brought with it all of the challenges, sorrows, excitement, concerns, and stress
which every New Year brings with its arrival. Yet, as we face 2019 we do not face it alone. You
see, a New Year and all that it may bring with it is not new nor a surprise to Jesus, and is not out-
side of the complete control of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ! Jesus in His sovereignty,
by His omniscience already knows what 2019 holds and by His omnipotence He is in total control
of 2019. Therefore, we Jesus’ disciples have no need to fear or worry about what 2019 holds for
us or brings to us, personally or collectively!
All too often we are prone to act like the world, worrying when there is no need to worry.
2019 will certainly bring cause to worry by its unknowns, its enviable changes, and the continua-
tion of mankind’s seemingly endless movement away from God by his ever deepening levels of
sin. Yet, if we will heed God’s Holy Word we know that we are not to worry or become stressed
out; rather we are to be about the worship and service of God first and foremost! Matthew 6:33
says, “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be
added unto you.” The phrase “these things” here in verse thirty three is explained in the previous

November Facts & Figures verses (Matthew 6: 25 – 32) and represent the normal things that our humanity causes to need, to
desire, and to worry over. Yet, Jesus is extremely clear “seek” Him and His things “first” and He
will provide us with all the “things” we need in this life and are all too often stressed and worried
about.

His righteousness”! If we will face 2019 seeking “first” Jesus’ “kingdom and righteousness,” then
we can rest as we watch Jesus “add unto” us all the things we need, personally and collectively.
