AXES :: Caption Visibility

The caption visibility determines whether or not the caption (i.e., the title) of the target axis
is displayed. The interaction graph will automatically resize when this property is changed.
To change this property, click on 'Caption Visibility' under either 'X­Axis' or 'Y­Axis' on the
graph properties panel, and then click on the checkbox. By default, the captions for both
axes are displayed.

AXES :: Font

Selecting the 'Font' property under either 'X­Axis' or 'Y­Axis' on the graph properties panel
will allow you to change the display font for the axis caption. Selecting this property will
also allow you to change the font size, and specify whether the font should be bold or italic.
By default, axis captions are displayed in a 12­point Arial Bold font.

AXES :: Scale

Selecting the 'Scale' property under either 'X­Axis' or 'Y­Axis' on the graph properties panel
will allow you to change the scale settings for the target axis. This option allows you to
specify the minimum and maximum values for the scale, as well as the scale increment and
the decimal precision of the scale. Note that the difference between the scale minimum and
the scale maximum must be evenly divisible by the scale increment. The number of
decimals must be between 0 and 12, inclusive. By default, the scale minimum and
maximum will reflect the range of data for the target axis, and the scale will contain seven
hash marks.

AXES :: Scale Font

Selecting the 'Scale Font' property under either 'X­Axis' or 'Y­Axis' on the graph properties
panel will allow you to change the display font for the scale on the target axis. Selecting
this property will also allow you to change the font size, and specify whether the font should
be bold or italic. By default, axis scales are displayed in an 8­point Arial font.

AXES :: Text

The 'Text' property available under 'X­Axis' and 'Y­Axis' on the graph properties panel allows
you to specify the caption text (i.e., the title text) that is displayed on the target axis. Text
that is too long for a single line will automatically wrap to two lines. Alternatively, you can
force multi­line text to be displayed simply by hitting the 'Enter' key within the textbox, and
then typing additional text. By default, the X­Axis text is the name of the independent
variable, while the Y­axis text is the name of the dependent variable.

The 'X­Axis' refers to the horizontal (i.e., left­to­right) axis on the interaction graph. The
axis lines cannot be turned off. The color and width of the axis lines cannot be changed.The
X­axis references values of the independent variable (this cannot be changed).

The 'Y­Axis' refers to the vertical (i.e., top­to­bottom) axis on the interaction graph. The
axis lines cannot be turned off. The color and width of the axis lines cannot be changed.The

CHART AREA :: Background Color

Selecting the 'Background Color' property under 'Chart Area' on the graph properties panel
will allow you to change the fill color of the chart area on the interaction graph. The chart
area refers only to the rectangular area on the interaction graph in which the interaction
lines are drawn, and is bounded on the left and bottom by the Y and X axes, respectively.
The color palette provides 16 colors from which to select. By default, the background color
of the chart area is light grey.

The 'Border' property under 'Chart Area' on the graph properties panel allows you to specify
whether or not a black border is drawn around the chart area of the interaction graph. When
the border is off only the axis lines are drawn. The axis lines cannot be turned off. The color
and width of the border cannot be changed. By default, the chart area border is displayed.

GRAPH :: Background Color
Selecting the 'Background Color' property under 'Interaction Graph' on the graph properties
panel will allow you to change the fill color of the background portion of the interaction
graph. The color palette provides 16 colors from which to select. By default, the background
color of the interaction graph is white.

The 'Border' property under 'Interaction Graph' on the graph properties panel allows you to
specify whether or not a black border is drawn around the interaction graph. The color and
width of the border cannot be changed. By default, the interaction graph border is
displayed.

GRAPH :: Canvas

A graph 'canvas' refers both to the editable interaction graph, and its associated statistical
output. When you save a graph canvas, both of these components are saved together in a
single file. When you open a previously saved graph canvas, you can edit the interaction
graph contained therein just as if the graph were new. A graph canvas in Interaction! can be
thought of as analogous to a document in a word processor.

GRAPH :: Creating a New Graph

To create a new interaction graph, simply select the 'New Interaction Graph' option under
the 'File' menu. This will activate the New Graph Wizard, which will guide you through
importing your data, identifying missing values, assigning graph variables, and specifying
levels of the moderator to use in your new graph. When this process is complete, your
interaction graph will be drawn automatically and a complete statistical analysis will be
conducted.

GRAPH :: Inserting into Documents, Presentations, etc.
To insert your graph into a document, email, presentation, or poster, follow these steps:

1.  Export your interaction graph as an image, and save the image to a location on your
computer (Note: only registered users can export and save graphs).
2.  Within your word processing, email, or presentation software, place the cursor at the
point in the document where you would like your interaction graph to be inserted.
3.  Insert the interaction graph image that you saved in step #1 into the document. In
Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), this can be accomplished
from the main menu by clicking on 'Insert' >> 'Picture' >> 'From File'. When the
'Insert Picture' dialog box appears, navigate to the location on your computer where
you saved your interaction graph image, select the image file, and then click on
 'Insert'. The interaction graph image will be inserted into your document!

GRAPH :: Opening an Existing Graph
To open an existing interaction graph canvas (which includes both the interaction graph and
its associated statistical output), simply select 'Open Existing Interaction Graph' from under
the 'File' menu. Interaction graph canvas files end with a '.IGC' extension. When the dialog
box appears, navigate to the location on your computer where the target graph canvas is
saved, select it, and then click on 'Open'. The graph canvas will appear in the program's
main window. Note: only registered users can open existing graphs.

GRAPH :: Saving the Canvas

To save your graph canvas, simply click on 'Save Graph Canvas' from under the 'File' menu.
When the dialog box appears, navigate to the location on your computer where you want to
save the canvas, type in a name for the new file, and click on 'Save'. The canvas, which
includes both the graph and its associated statistical output, will be saved. Note: only
registered users can save graph canvases.

GRAPH :: Saving the Graph as an Image

To save your interaction graph as an image, simply click on 'Export Graph' from under the
'File' menu. When the dialog box appears, select which type of image you would like to save
(i.e., Bitmap or JPEG). Next, navigate to the location on your computer where you want to
save the image, type in a name for the new image, and click on 'Save'. The image will be
saved. Note: only registered users can save graphs as images.

GRAPH :: Saving as a Publication­Ready Image

To save your interaction graph as a publication­ready image, simply click on 'Export Graph'
from under the 'File' menu. When the dialog box appears, select which type of publication­
ready image you would like to save (i.e., Publication­ready Bitmap or Publication­ready
JPEG). Next, navigate to the location on your computer where you want to save the
publication­ready image, type in a name for the new image, and click on 'Save'. The
publication­ready image will be saved. Note: only registered users can save graphs as
publication­ready images.

GRAPH :: Size

The 'Size' property under 'Interaction Graph' on the graph properties panel allows you to
specify the height and width of the interaction graph. The height and width values are
specified in pixels. Valid values for the height and width are between 100 pixels and 2000
pixels, inclusive. By default, interaction graphs are 533 pixels wide by 400 pixels high
(these values yield a standard 4:3 aspect ratio).

GRAPH :: Viewing

To switch between viewing the interaction graph and the statistical output, simply select
'Interaction Graph' or 'Statistical Output' from under the 'View' menu. Alternatively, you can
click on the appropriate navigation tab in the lower­left corner of the program's main
window.

INTERACTION LINES :: Antialiasing

Antialiasing is a smoothing technique that removes the jagged, "stair­stepping" effect along
the edges of a graphical image. The 'Antialiasing' property under 'Interaction Lines' on the
graph properties panel allows you to specify whether or not the edges of the interaction
lines on the interaction graph are antialiased. By default, the interaction lines are
antialiased.

INTERACTION LINES :: Color

Selecting the 'Color' property under 'Interaction Lines' on the graph properties panel will
allow you to change the display color of the interaction lines on the interaction graph. Lines
are identified in the drop­down box by their current appearance and by their current
description in the legend. The color palette provides 16 colors from which to select.

INTERACTION LINES :: Style

The 'Style' property under 'Interaction Lines' on the graph properties panel allows you to
specify the line style and line width of each interaction line on the interaction graph. Lines
are identified in the drop­down box by their current appearance and by their current
description in the legend. Five different line styles are available from which to select. Line
widths can range from 1 to 10 pixels, inclusive. By default, interaction lines have a width of
3 pixels.

LEGEND :: Item Font
Selecting the 'Item Font' property under 'Legend' on the graph properties panel will allow
you to change the display font for the descriptions of the items in the legend. Changing this
property will change the font settings for all of the items in the legend; i.e., item fonts
cannot be set individually. Selecting this property will also allow you to change the font
size, and specify whether the font should be bold or italic. By default, legend item
descriptions are displayed in an 8­point Arial font.

LEGEND :: Item Text

The 'Item Text' property available under 'Legend' on the graph properties panel allows you
to change the description of each item in the legend. Legend items are identified in the
drop­down box by their current appearance and by their current description. You can force a
legend item description to be displayed using multi­line text simply by hitting the 'Enter' key
within the textbox, and then typing additional text. By default, the legend item text is the
value of the moderator associated with the target interaction line.

to change the display font for the title of the legend. Selecting this property will also allow
you to change the font size, and specify whether the font should be bold or italic. By
default, the legend title is displayed in a 10­point Arial Bold font.

The 'Title Text' property available under 'Legend' on the graph properties panel allows you to
change the title description of the legend. You can force the legend title description to be
displayed using multi­line text simply by hitting the 'Enter' key within the textbox, and then
typing additional text. By default, the legend title text is the name of the moderator
variable.

specify whether or not the title is displayed on the interaction graph. The interaction graph
will automatically resize when this property is changed. By default, the title is not shown.
