The Brazilian singer-songwriter Célia Mara presents herself 2010 in a romantic triology, the new program „Meus
Amores“, which deals exclusively with the most exciting of all emotions - love. And she chooses the best of all
possible partners to flirt with: after a great cooperation with the Piano-vituoso Benjamim Taubkin in spring, she is
proud to share the stage for her automn-tour with a Brazilian music legend, a great artist of the MPB and Bossa
Nova – the singer-songwriter Nelson Angelo.

Nelson Angelo is one of the founders of the "Clube da Esquina" - one of the most important musical movements
of Brazil; he is a longtime musical partner of Milton Nascimento, (co-) composer and musician of Elis Regina,
Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo, Joyce, Egberto Gismonti, Sergio Mendez, Antonio Carlos Jobim or Sarah Vaughan, to
name just a few ...
The meeting with Célia Mara promises an extraordinary experience, as the artist is known for her rebellish way of
making music; she embodies the modern spirit of a Brazilian Diaspora, the melting of that inimitable Brazilian
swing with non genuine influences from the whole world. Her strong voice is surprising, seductive, smooth – her
compositions break the rules…
Proven third in the international love affair is cellist Margaret Deppe, practiced in crossing the borders between
contemporary, jazz and classical music, sensitive and surprising ...

Meus Amores - the tradition of Brazilian love songs is endless - whether melancholy folklore or hot boleros,
ballads, samba, Latin jazz, tango… Brazilian music is known for fire and passion, as well as for nostalgic heart
rending Saudade, melancholic Banzo or tingling eroticism. And who is not thinking of Bossa Nova ...

The Triology started with a sensual Brazilian Love Journey in spring 2010, when Célia Mara had the joy to invite
one of the best Brazilian pianists of the present, the Paulista Benjamim Taubkin, founder of the Nucleo
Contemporaneo, an artist who crosses borders between folk and contemporary music. Célia Mara’s impressive
velvet voice and Benjamim Taubkin's sensitive, surprising arrangements branded the program, the Trio Mara /
Taubkin / Deppe got standing ovations in a sold-out Vienna Konzerthaus, Remise Bludenz and in Ljubljana's
Kankarejev dom.

In Meus Amores II, Célia Mara involves herself with indescribable lightness into the deepness of love(s)... the
selected songs are sensual, sparkling, pulsating, including major hits of the Bossa Nova by Nelson Angelo. And of
course there are again many original compositions by Célia Mara underneath.
Even in love affairs, Célia Mara remains always faithful to her reputation as a rebel. She is dedicated to the
current issues of her time, creating passionate Playdoyers for same-sex love and Afro-Brazilian goddesses,
celebrating strong women with smooth grooves ...
Passionate and fiery, coaxing, demanding, provocative, then cool, dismissive, yearning, pleading, lost in
screaming loneliness ... Célia Mara, Nelson Angelo and Margarete Deppe brew a fizzy love potion, Célia Maras
sensual, earthy, deep voice mingles with the velvet purr of Nelson Angelo, Margarete Deppes Cello soothes with
its melancholy, the fevered heart ...
Solos, duos, trios ... just as life goes...

Short biographies Meus amores

Célia Mara
She is a 21 century singer-songwriter – and she can’t be squeezed into any category.
Some say that she is in World Music, others see her in MPB, Latin, Jazz, Brazil-Funk or Ethno-Pop. The Brazilian
Vienna-based artist is self-taught, she prefers to work between the genres, transcending borders.
She dedicates her new program - Meus Amores, to her musical role models, and submerges herself into the rich
musical traditions of South America, always looking for new interpretations of the world…
Célia Mara has lived for more than 15 years in Vienna, the international success came with her "Brazilian bastard
sound made in Vienna". The last two productions bastardista and Santa Rebeldia brought her great reviews in the
international press, she has been touring to important festivals in Europe and North Africa, as well as in
prestigious concert halls (such as the Vienna State Opera) or the worlds best clubs (Joe’s pub/New York City,
Cargo/London)…

Nelson Angelo

Nelson Angelo, composer, singer, guitarist and arranger, started his career in Belo Horizonte. Already in 1963, he
founded, together with Milton Nascimento, the "Clube da Esquina", besides the Tropicalismo probably the most
important musical movement in Brazil. He soon moved to Rio de Janeiro, the center of MPB and Bossa Nova,
where he worked with artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Edu Lobo, Elis Regina, Clementina de Jesus, Chico
Buarque and Egberto Gismonti. In the 70s he toured with his wife Joyce around the world, the 80s brought him to
the U.S., where he worked with Milton Nascimento and Sergio Mendez. His work as composer is significant, he
shaped the history of the MPB, with its sensitive and critical art.
He works and lives in Rio de Janeiro... and will come in 2010 for the first time to Austria.

Margarete Deppe:
Margaret Deppe is an outstanding cellist with classical training, she has worked with Paul Gulda or as a free
member of Klangforum Wien or the German Chamber Philharmonic Orchester Bremen.
She is known for her experimental work and creative approach to the cello, is leading her own quartet Xtra -Cello,
and active in many cross-over projects with great jazz artists such as Mathias Ruegg, Renald Deppe or Christian
Muthspiel.
