THE FLIGHT OF PIGEONS
-RUSKIN BOND
REVIEW:
Author Ruskin Bond constructs the historical tale of Ruth Labadoor and her family’s
escapades during the massacre that took place during the first war of Indian Independence
in 1857.
In the beginning, father of the narrator is murdered in front of the narrator itself, which
makes the narrator and the family in a danger as the Indian troops are in hunt for all
britishers in the town. This incident makes the beginning interesting and curious to know
what will the family do now?.
Then the mother of the narrator comes into action as she then takes the responsibility and
decides to take help from Lala Ramjimal, and all her family takes shelter and protection
with his help. This part of the story moralizes that no matter what the religion, nationality
is ,humanity and the friendship will always find its way. As the story progresses and Javed
khan enters, makes it interesting as because javed khan falls for Ruth and the story grasps
its way .As the story progresses, it shows how humanity lives in the heart of the people
,Javed khan and his family being a pathan leader helps them to stay protected. The story
then approches and shows how friends and other people support the labadoor family and
help them to reach to their relatives and get safe.
The story mainly revolves around the emotional aspects of the family and the people who
understand and revolting towards the happenings in a silent way and helping the needy.
The narration is simple. Bond weaves human emotions with extreme caution that every
major incident and the character's way of dealing with it is becomes relatable.
